Hearts System: 1000 Ways to Tell CEO I Love You-Chapter 26: White Moon (2)
"What about me? Am I invited?" Beckett laughed. He caressed the pet backpack on his chest. "We haven’t gone to a party for so long. I want to dress Sydney in pretty gowns. She will be so adorable!"
Leander hummed. "I included you in the RSVP. It’s up to you to get kicked out."
Beckett laughed derisively and took out his phone. "I will take photos of the nicest gowns! Hopefully, the designers won’t go after me. It’s for my beautiful girl, after all."
He then turned to the maiden with them. "Luellen, plan for your color. It will be easier for us to find a beautiful gown for you if we have a color in mind. Hm... Andy! What color do you think will fit her the best?" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Gala will surely come in red. Henny likes purple gowns. Houston will surely find something dark... navy, gray..." Leander’s voice grew soft. "Hm... are you comfortable wearing something close to white? Not white-white, naturally."
"Won’t that make me look so dainty and immaculate?" Luellen chuckled. She looked down at her clothes. "I think I’ll stick to blue."
"Let’s ask the attendant for her recommendations." Beckett giggled, ignoring Leander’s glare at his face. "Andy here only knows what he sees. He’s just probably thinking of colors those two women had not worn yet. I want to know what color makes you look the nicest!"
Leander huffed in response. "Ask them what color to get for Sydney instead. I’m sure her vibrant fur must be accentuated to its finest."
Beckett flashed a smile, challenging the sarcasm in his brother’s words. He then gestured to Luellen, who was behind Leander. That thumbs-up should mean something, but the maiden barely understood what happened between them.
"Welcome to the Sewn Dynasty!" One attendant greeted the incoming group. Her wide smile and glittering eyes somewhat told Luellen that she knew the brothers. More when she clapped her hands. "Mr Leander, Mr Beckett! It’s been a while. What can we get you today?"
"It’s a farewell party for a colleague’s prized worker." Leander walked with the attendant while Beckett stopped to check one gown on display. "Sydney’s invited. You might have to ask your designers to come."
"They will be here as soon as Mr Beckett picks their design." The attendant giggled and glanced at Luellen, who was also looking around.
Leander noticed the attendant’s brief gaze. He gestured at Luellen. "She’s also invited. I don’t have time for a custom gown. What can you offer?"
The attendant did a double-take at Leander. However, she circled Luellen as if recording the maiden’s measurements just from one look. She then stopped at one spot and hummed. "I don’t think we have something ready for her size. How about we pick a dress first so we know who to contact for the alterations?"
Luellen flinched at the sound of custom gowns. She waved her hands. "I’m sorry. I’m not... I don’t think I can take a custom gown. Can I look around more? I think I can find one in my size..."
The attendant smiled. "You will, Miss, but our prettiest gowns can only accommodate our mannequins. Your silhouette needs a more specialized cut."
Fat. Luellen figured the attendant was saying she was too fat for their gowns. Then again, alterations were always an option. Even when she felt like she looked so nice, her figure still hindered her from getting by unscathed. Luellen just looked at the pretty gowns worn by the mannequins. Right. Those were Shirley’s clothes.
"...oh, right... I won’t wear anything like that..." Luellen murmured as she kept staring at the gowns. They were in a premium boutique. The gowns competed to outshine one another. Those laces and cut-outs would surely fit Shirley’s tastes more.
"That selection is catered to the main character girls." The attendant followed Luellen’s gaze. She looked back at the maiden. "Would you like to have a more... mature and sophisticated look?"
Luellen turned to the attendant and nodded. She didn’t let her bitterness show. "Can I? Are they also too narrow for my body?"
The attendant hummed as she led Leander and Luellen. "Not really. Most of them are corseted to a madam’s body. Also, the squish accentuates their child-bearing hips. That category also boasts a mix of fabrics to create beautiful textures and silhouettes. Less skin, too."
They reached the deeper racks, where gowns were worn by simpler mannequins. The attendant smiled and gestured at the selection. "Will this be better for you, Ms...?"
"Ms Piper," Leander answered for Luellen. He settled in the waiting lounge. "Bring me an attendant for my options."
"Yes, Mr Leander." The attendant walked off to the side to find someone in charge of the male apparel.
Luellen would be lying if she said she didn’t love the gowns in front of her. She even tried her best not to touch the clothes. None of them was duplicates; they only shared a design with various color combinations. She stepped back and turned to Leander. "Mr Leander, you’re also buying here?"
The man took out his phone to check messages. He answered without looking, "Yes. It’s a waste of time and money to get fitted for every suit I have to get. Also, they’re unusable for an entire year. I only put effort into occasions I care about."
Luellen’s eyes flickered. She moved closer and spoke more softly, "You... don’t care about the dinner all that much?"
"I don’t want Gala to think I’m taking it seriously," Leander smirked as if he saw something amusing on his phone. "It’s dinner with her, after all. I already told you. She thrives in the delusion that I’ll find her a viable plan against Valerie."
"Okay..." Luellen looked away. Not only did she feel her heart skip a beat at the face he made. She even found his words flattering. Why did he talk like she was an insider?
The attendant returned with a male, and he spoke to Leander instead. The female attendant smiled at Luellen. "Do we have a starting pick, Ms Piper?"
Luellen glanced at the madam gowns. She turned to the attendant with an apologetic smile. "Not really. I was hoping to get something blue, but I... can’t choose. Everything looks so appealing. I usually shop with my bestie. She’s not available today."
"I see..." The attendant hummed and glanced at Luellen’s totality. "Cerulean looks good on you, but lighter colors will do more magic. Let’s see. I can bring a lavender gown... or something white. Well, not white-white, naturally! How about I also pick out a few pieces of silver jewelry to match your earrings?"
"Not white-white?" Luellen repeated. Didn’t she hear that from Leander earlier? He must have been shopping here a lot.
The attendant nodded. "Don’t worry, Ms Piper. I won’t make your wedding day early. It won’t look like a wedding gown. Would you like to wait here with Mr Leander?"
