Hearts System: 1000 Ways to Tell CEO I Love You-Chapter 33: A Blessing in Disguise
Luellen flinched. Those eyes were on her body again, and her heart pounded loudly at every passing second. The scenes almost replayed in her mind, and her cheeks burned once more. She just had to turn and face the door. The blush should vanish before walking out of the inner office.
It was good that he gave her a task. She erased all the signs and left the office. Like instructed, she borrowed the desk phone and called Purchases.
After a few minutes, a knock came to their door. Luellen was the most unoccupied, so she went to answer the door. Outside was a lady with a rolling cage cart. However, her cart only had one last item on it, if it was not the only thing she had to bring. She handed the clipboard to Luellen for her to sign.
The lady then stretched her neck to see the busy people inside. Her gaze then stayed on Luellen after receiving her clipboard. She smiled. "Hey... was it you? The girl?"
"My name isn’t Shirley..." That was what Luellen said. She received the passably heavy box. "Thank you for delivering the order swiftly."
"Oh, yeah, I know that isn’t your name." The lady giggled and looked inside the office again. "But it was you, right? Everyone in our office knows Mr Wentworth has two interns. The Shirley girl has blonde hair, so it can only be you, right?"
Luellen only smiled at the lady. "Please don’t spread rumors about Mr Leander. I have to get back to work now."
The lady didn’t fight it. She only nodded and brought her cart away. Before she could make the turn, she took out her phone and fiddled with it.
The maiden imagined the lady telling her friends about their interaction. Luellen didn’t know if she should affirm or deny those things. In the end, she just figured it would be lost in the ever-violent tides of gossip in the conglomerate.
"Mr Leander, your order is here." Luellen knocked on the door. When she heard Leander respond, she walked inside the inner office. "Should I put it here instead?"
"Why don’t you open it?" Leander glanced at her and at the closed door. "It’s for you."
"For me?" Luellen flinched and slowly opened the privacy box. She then took out a boxed laptop. She glanced in Leander’s direction. "Oh, is this my company laptop, Mr Leander? Uhm, thank you, but... I have no desk..."
Leander gestured at the desk beside her. "You can take that one. You’ll look through everything submitted to me, anyway."
Luellen flinched and looked at the inner office’s door. She chuckled as she continued unboxing the laptop. "Won’t Ms Gala kill me if I can stay here with you the whole day?"
"She might." Leander chuckled, Luellen pausing.
"...how could she not know that side of you?" Luellen almost pouted.
She then moved around to reorganize the desk and the chairs around it. No wonder more chairs were in the office now. Leander thought of giving the desk to her.
In a few minutes rearranging and pushing a heavy desk, Luellen now had a station. She smiled as she set the laptop in the center. Taking a seat on her chair, Luellen fiddled with the laptop. However, she noticed a problem. She looked up at Leander.
"Sir, I should look for IT." Luellen closed the laptop. "I can’t connect to the network. Sir Houston also said their company devices had more digital protection."
"That’s right. I just wanted you to open the box yourself." Leander hummed. "Would you have opted for a ready-to-use computer?"
"Not really. I want to know what guards my computer has." Luellen giggled and clapped once. "I’ll be out for a few minutes... or an hour. Please call me if you need me in the office, Mr Leander." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Take as long as you need. Urgent matters would need Houston or Henny to work on them instead." Leander raised a hand as if it counted as a wave.
Luellen nodded and brought the laptop to her chest. She didn’t want Shirley or Gala to see it, but she should tell Madam Henny and Houston. Nonetheless, she brought it out and hid it from the vile tandem through her body. She flashed a smile at Madam Henny, who seemed to know about the gift.
The maiden softly said, "Madam, I’m going to IT for a bit. It came from the box, so I needed them to install programs and guards in it."
"Oh, so he expedited it." Madam Henny giggled and waved at Luellen. "Go on, Luellen. Try to make it back before lunch."
"Thank you very much." Luellen walked briskly yet with grace and concealed excitement. It wasn’t personal property, but it meant she didn’t have to wait for Houston to leave his desk. She could also work on more clerical matters now.
Then again, was it worth it?
Luellen wondered if getting the laptop was a blessing. She indeed got a heavier workload now that she had a desk and a laptop to work. It was just that...
"Oh, and we need this before the day ends." Gala smiled viciously. "Which is in an hour. Leander has a dinner meeting, so we can call our own clock-out. Still, if I don’t see that in the shared folder when I get here tomorrow..."
"I’ll get it done." Luellen could only sigh inside her. She was still in the inner office, yes, but everyone else could leave later. Leander left with Madam Henny just minutes ago. It was the perfect time for Gala’s plan. Houston had other things to attend to, so he had left sometime after lunch.
Two hyenas guarded the exit. Luellen could only work until she finished the task.
How funny was it that the lights died around six in the evening? Even the network was turned off. It was good that the document could be saved locally. Luellen sighed and walked to the door to leave. She might have to call Front Desk and contact Utility.
Clack! Luellen looked at the door. She turned the knob and tried opening the door. However, it felt like something kept the door from opening. Luellen banged on the panel and tried to look into the dark outer office. No one else was there anymore. Her eyes soon flickered. Did Gala and Shirley lock her inside the inner office?
"Oh, no... the night cleaners won’t go inside the CEO’s office." Luellen scampered to her laptop and saved her progress. She then used Leander’s phone and called the phone outside. If it rang, maybe the cleaner would come inside.
"No response?" The maiden dialed the number, but the call wouldn’t even connect. She looked at the door. "Did they disconnect the phones outside? What?"
Luellen put the desk phone down and took out her handset. She stared at Leander’s name on her contacts. Her eyes closed. "No, he was in the meeting regarding the merger. I shouldn’t disturb him or Madam Henny. Sir Houston could also be busy."
She looked out of the glass walls. "There should be something I can do."
