Her Dark Desires-Chapter 41: He Isn’t Gone From Your Heart.
Eliana’s eyes fluttered open, and she felt as if someone was beating a drum on her head. She felt someone touching her and look at her side only to see Zach sleeping while holding her hand.
Eliana stretched forth her hand to touch him but suddenly stopped. She brought her hand down and quickly closed her eyes when she saw he was about to wake up.
"I know you are awake," Zachary said. He could barely sleep throughout the night so the moment Eliana groaned in pain, he was already awake and alert.
Despite hearing his voice, Eliana still closed her eyes and refused to open it or say a thing.
"You do not wish to talk to me, nor do you wish to see me. Is it because you blame me for what happened to little treasure?" Zachary asked softly, but still, there was no response. "I’m sorry for failing to protect you and our baby. I’m sorry Eli."
Eliana clenched her fist as she heard his apology. She wanted to tell him it wasn’t his fault, but she couldn’t because deep within, she wanted to blame someone for what happened to her. Maybe she should blame herself for her inability to protect her baby. Her baby was her responsibility, she was his protector, and she couldn’t protect him. Maybe little treasure left her because she didn’t deserve him.
Hearing no response from Eliana, Zachary sighed. "You probably cannot wait for me to leave, right?"
He stood up and kissed her affectionately on her forehead before leaving.
After he left, Eliana opened her eyes, and a tear slipped from it. As soon as she heard the room door open again, she closed her eyes, thinking it was Zach, but instead, it was one of the last people she was expecting to ever visit.
"I know you are awake," Charlotte said, taking the seat Zach recently occupied. "Now open those pretty eyes of yours, and let’s talk."
Eliana slowly opened her eyes and sat upright but still said nothing.
"You are not alone, Eliana."
And for the first time since Charlotte stepped into the room, Eliana turned to look at her.
"Your baby may be gone from your womb but he isn’t gone from your heart. You will always remember him, and you will have regrets and feel sad that you couldn’t save him, but one day, it will get better. One day, you will remember him and instead of sadness and regrets, you will feel peace. Peace in knowing that you fought for him, peace in knowing that he found you worthy to come into your life and that he didn’t leave you because you weren’t going to be a great mother to him but rather he was snatched from you and that is why Eliana, you cannot remain like this. Little Treasure deserves justice for what was done to him, and he expects his mother to grant him that justice. However, if you become unable to do that, then you will truly be failing him."
Eliana bit her lips to control her tears, but they still rolled down her eyes, and when Charlotte embraced her, she let go and cried bitterly.
"Cry all you want, dear; it’s ok to cry," Charlotte said as she patted her back.
Zach, who was standing outside the ward, rested his head on the door, and his heart ached as he heard her cries. He clenched his fist tightly and left the hospital.
...
"Did Eliana do this to you?" Amber asked, looking at her mother’s bruised and swollen face.
Sloane heart burned in anger as she remembered what happened. The doctor said she was unconscious for a day and would need a lot of rest for her bruised face to heal faster.
"I won’t accept this, I will make her pay for hurting you," Amber said and was about to march to Eliana’s ward when she heard Sloane’s voice.
"Forget about it. She will regret her actions soon enough."
"Now that her child is gone, what is the next step?"
Sloane looked at her daughter and wanted to smile but couldn’t. Her face was already hurting just from speaking. "The next step is for you to enter the Sanders family through any means necessary. You have to be the one who produced an heir for the family."
Amber frowned and asked, "How can I do that?"
"Simple. By getting Zachary to sleep with you, and if that fails, then you can win Ryan’s heart."
"Ryan,?" Amber remembered her recent encounter with Zach’s brother. It was obvious Eliana had already gotten her claw on him, so how could she enter the family through Ryan?
"The death of Eliana’s child has brought a crack in their relationship. It may be a small crack but we can make it bigger and wider, leave all the planning to me. My face will heal but Eliana’s heart will never heal." Sloane with a vicious glint in her eyes.

"Are you hungry?" Zach asked. After finding a way to release his anger, Zach came back to Eliana and was glad to see that she was awake. His mother had gone back to attend to an important issue in her foundation, while Ryan was business with something else and even though he wanted to be with Ryan at this moment, he couldn’t bear the thought of leaving her alone so he came back to the hospital by 7 pm and found out from the nurse that she still has not eaten.
Eliana’s eyes met Zach’s gaze, and for the first time since the incident, she didn’t look away.
Silence enveloped the hospital room, and Zach thought she was not going to answer him when he heard her softly say, "Sorry."
Her voice was like a whisper but he was able to hear it. "Why are you saying sorry? I should be the one apologizing, not you."
Eliana shook her head in disagreement "I couldn’t protect our baby. I’m so sorry, Zach. I’m sorry."
Zach pulled her into his embrace as she began to cry again "It’s not your fault, Eli. You can blame me if you want but not yourself." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"He is gone, Zach. We are never going to meet him, never going to hear his first words or celebrate his birthday. I want him back, Zach. I want my baby back." Eliana cried out in Zach’s arms.
Zach hugged her tightly without saying anything because he didn’t know what to say. Little treasure was gone and there was no way he was coming back to them. But like his mother has said, though, he was never born, he would always remain in their heart. Zach knew he was never going to forget him and the guilt of not being able to protect little treasure will forever remain in his heart.
