How Did I Become an F1 Driver?-Chapter 110 - 87: All-Nighter
Chapter 110: Chapter 87: All-Nighter
"Okay, watch me play four against five and let you experience what it’s like to be carried."
Zhou Guanyu responded, then eagerly put his attention back into the game.
"Hey." Qin Miao answered Qimeng’s call somewhat nervously.
For some reason, Qin Miao suddenly felt like he was caught by a parent doing something wrong.
"Honey, why haven’t you come back so late?" Qimeng’s voice came through the receiver.
Qin Miao carefully discerned the tone; it seemed normal enough and not angry, probably just a normal inquiry out of concern.
Instinctively, Qin Miao wanted to hide the fact that he was gaming outside with Zhou Guanyu, and was about to say he and Zhou were out eating barbecue and would return later.
But Qin Miao had a nagging feeling, that once he started lying, he might not be able to stop later.
So after a brief internal struggle, Qin Miao spoke up honestly: "I’m at an internet cafe..."
There was a noticeable pause on Qimeng’s end.
Due to Qimeng’s pause, Qin Miao’s heartbeat involuntarily sped up, thinking: could this be the calm before the storm? Would he soon face Qimeng’s wrath?
However, Qimeng’s reaction wasn’t as angry as Qin Miao had expected. She just asked curiously, "Are there internet cafes in England?"
Qin Miao scratched his face: "Yeah, there are."
"It’s impressive you managed to find an internet cafe in a strange place. Maybe it’s some kind of innate talent..." Qimeng sighed noticeably and teased, then frowned and asked, "Wasn’t Zhou Guanyu treating you to a late-night snack? Why did you end up at an internet cafe? Is he there too?"
Qin Miao glanced at Zhou Guanyu who was seriously gaming: "Yes, he’s here."
"Alright then, I originally thought about playing some computer games too, but now it’s too late so I won’t go out. Have fun, are you planning to stay up all night?"
Looking at Zhou Guanyu beside him, Qin Miao couldn’t back down in front of the new friend, so he boldly said: "Yeah, that’s the plan."
Unexpectedly, instead of getting questioned by Qimeng, he received a flat, yet genuinely caring remark: "Remember to have some breakfast before going back to sleep after staying up all night."
"Oh..." Qin Miao was somewhat surprised that Qimeng didn’t get mad about his actions, but showed this attitude instead, leaving him temporarily speechless.
There’s a kind of happiness from being understood, and warmth from knowing she can tolerate some of his flaws.
"I’ll hang up then."
"Okay... Good night."
"Good night, dear! Mua~"
"Beep beep beep."
...
Seeing Qin Miao put down the phone, just finished a round but lost because they lacked Qin Miao’s essential firepower, Zhou Guanyu sighed regretfully and curiously asked: "Old Qin, who called you so late?"
Hearing Zhou Guanyu’s question, Qin Miao replied without turning his head: "My girlfriend, asking why I haven’t come back to sleep yet. It’s also my fault, I forgot to tell her I planned to stay up all night."
Zhou Guanyu: ???
"You have a girlfriend?" Zhou Guanyu’s face was full of shock.
Qin Miao nodded slightly confused, looking at Zhou Guanyu, not knowing why him having a girlfriend was so surprising: "Yeah, what’s up?"
Zhou Guanyu’s face was full of incredulity: "You have a girlfriend, yet you’re out all night? She doesn’t mind?"
"Nope." Qin Miao indicated his phone: "She just called to ask why I haven’t returned so late; after confirming I plan to stay up all night, she didn’t bother me."
Zhou Guanyu saw Qin Miao’s indifferent demeanor, somewhat worried: "Is it possible your girlfriend is being sarcastic? Seemingly not opposing you staying out, but her inner anger might be gradually brewing."
After the reminder, Qin Miao started seriously considering this possibility.
The relationship between him and Qimeng was actually very straightforward.
Qimeng almost never intentionally hinted at anything, she always spoke her mind frankly, and doesn’t have a habit of sarcasm.
From this, it can be concluded that Qimeng’s words genuinely meant nothing more.
Having analyzed this, Qin Miao casually sat back down and said: "My girlfriend is very sensible, she doesn’t hint, usually says what’s on her mind. If she said I could stay up all night, it indeed means I can."
"Enough about this, how did I lose a point in one round? Can you handle this, Old Zhou?"
Seeing Qin Miao unwilling to dwell more on this topic, Zhou Guanyu no longer urged him, though he felt envious of Qin Miao, finding a girlfriend who is so understanding.
But before envying long, Qin Miao directly questioned his skill, making Zhou Guanyu instantly unable to tolerate it: "If it weren’t for me being penniless and unable to buy a sniper, given their reckless rushing nature, I could beat the crap out of them."
Qin Miao scoffed: "With your sniping skills? Barely passable when holding a position, but during a retake, you’re just holding a 4750-worth stick of firewood."
Zhou Guanyu continued stubbornly: "Then I wouldn’t fight for a retake to begin with."
"Shanghai Jame, huh?" Qin Miao jibed.
