Hunter Of The Six Realms-Chapter 29: Massacre
Chapter 28
"What the hell is that?" Ash whispered to himself, instinctively moving away. He could instantly tell that whatever creature that thing was, it wasn’t something he could defeat. It’s something like, your body recognizes a being stronger than it and instantly recoils to protect itself.
"Are you also trapped here?" Dael asked, standing up from the floor and regaining some composure.
"You could say so." Velmaria replied, eyes scanning everyone, but then...she squinted a bit upon sighting Kaizen.
"Damn she’s hot." Thorne said quietly to the rest.
"Is that seriously what’s on your mind right now? She could be a beast. Have you forgotten the report from Black veil? It was a fucking red elf as I heard." Mira whispered to Thorne in a warning tone.
"She has no visible long ears. Besides, this doesn’t look like the beast realm. I’m sure she..." Thorne couldn’t finish his sentence when a hand dug from behind his back and into his chest. Then Velmaria leaned closer, whispering into his ears.
"I really don’t like anyone gossiping about my looks." She aggressively pulled her hands out of his chest, and Thorne landed like a puppet, his eyes still wide from the shock of death as blood pooled around his body.
It took a moment for everyone to register what had just happened, and that was when real fear caught up with them.
Mira collapsed to the floor as her trembling legs refusing to play along and keep her standing, she stared wide eyed at Thorne’s corpse, tears blurring her vision.
"What...what just happened?"
"I didn’t see her move." Dael replied, moving backwards, fear and disbelief evident in his eyes.
Kaizen clutched his bag tightly, looking straight at Velmaria.
She is the one I kept sensing that ominous aura from. What in the world is she? Are we really gonna die here?
"This was supposed to be a fucking D-rank portal, how in the world did this happen?"
"What the hell are you? How can you move like that?" Ash asked, finally taking ground as captain and stepping forward.
Velmaria looked at him, amused. "I’m an Elf, you must have heard of me." She said, tucking her hair strands behind her pointy ears and showing them off.
"She’s the one, everyone run, we’re no match for her!" Ash yelled, and instantly everyone turned around, running for their lives. They had all realized exactly who she was, the being that massacred a level one team from Black veil guild.
Velmaria laughed, her tone echoing in the realm. "Pathetic of you to think you can run from me."
Right then, she whispered an incantation, and a giant sprouted from the ground and rose so high, the kinda height that no one could reach, immediately blocking them out.
Kira tried to manipulate the earth and bring the wall back down, but her magic wasn’t working on anything. "This thing is nothing like earth, my magic won’t work."
"Am I really gonna die here? I’m not even supposed to be here!" Mira screamed, her voice cracking, broken by sobs as she dragged herself back from the towering wall.
Ash turned back to Velmaria, sword trembling in his grip. "This doesn’t make any sense. That portal was rated D-rank. D-rank!" he shouted, more at himself than anyone else. His legs shook with each step backward. He’d fought B-rank beasts before, but this... his body wouldn’t even cooperate, like it new it would only meet death if it tried to challenge it.
"I baited you all here," Velmaria said calmly, stepping toward them. Her boots made no sound as they met the black marbled floor beneath them. "i called you-all here for a reason. And I only need one person from amongst you, the rest of you are just for me to kill time. I love the look of fear."
"You’re a monster!" Dael yelled, firing a blast of ice in desperation.
The shard didn’t even reach her. It turned to vapor in midair, crumbling before it could make contact.
"No," she said softly, "I’m just surviving."
She vanished again.
Jane let out a choked scream as she sighted something, but it was too late. Mira’s body shook violently as something slammed her into the marbled wall. Her spine cracked as her back hit the wall with full force, her mouth was wide as a silent cry came out briefly before blood poured from it. Her eyes rolled back, then she dropped to the ground, dead.
Jane stood frozen, her arms were stretched out, flames flickering at her fingertips but too unstable to release. She was trembling, her legs barely able to keep her standing.
Ash’s voice came out hoarse. "Kaizen. Listen to me. When I give the signal, "
"I know," Kaizen replied, eyes locked on Velmaria, who now hovered several feet in the air, her arms outstretched, her long hair lifting as if underwater. Her red eyes glowed faintly, and she had a smile plastered to her face.
Yuno spoke in a shaky whisper. "That’s not an elf...That’s something that used to be one."
"Your bodies will die here. But your souls... oh, they’ll scream for eternity."Velmaria’s cold voice echoed, inhuman.
"NOW!" Ash shouted.
Kaizen didn’t hesitate. He broke left, following the narrow crevice in the wall that had cracked when Mira’s body slammed into it. Rolan followed him, dragging a barely-conscious Dael with him. Jane blasted fire at the ground to create smoke cover, while Ash charged straight at Velmaria, his blade glowing with every ounce of mana he could gather. They knew they were no match for her, but it was cowardly to die without putting up a fight. They’d fight her with everything they got and die as hunters.
Velmaria watched him come, smiling softly.
"How pitiful."
She didn’t move from her position.
As the closed in on her, Kaizen saw something like a shadow, her shadow. It moved independently, separated from her, crawling across the floor like a living thing. It had no eyes, no face, just a freaking shadow.
"Ash! Behind you!"
But it was too late. Ash raised his sword, and the shadow pierced through him from behind, black tendrils snapping through his armor like paper, lifting him into the air like a meat puppet.
Kaizen stumbled backward, heart racing as he stared blankly at the massacre. "Can you just stop!" He screamed out in desperation, and for the very first time, the smile on Velmaria’s face disappeared as she turned to look at Kaizen, a different expression twisted on her face.
Shock!
