I Awakened An Outer God Class-Chapter 41: University Screening [4]
Mikhail sat on the spectator seat, observing others as the battles between students continued.
He leaned back while gently rubbing the yellow cat in his lap.
Even though it had been an easy win for him, Mikhail was not sure how to feel.
’I shouldn’t have let my feelings get to my head.’ He thought grimly. ’I shouldn’t have accepted his request.’
The more Mikhail thought about it, the more he regretted his decision.
The satisfaction of beating Brandon was overshadowed by his rational thoughts.
’I just hope I can deal with the consequences....’
Mikhail turned his head to his left when he found a staff member walking towards him.
"You have been called." The middle aged woman said politely.
He tilted his head. "By whom?"
She shook her head in response. "I don’t know."
Mikhail let out a sigh and stood up, letting the lady lead the way. Methew returned to his shoulder, wrapping himself around Mikhail’s neck.
The lady took him inside the teacher’s office and stopped in front of an ordinary looking room.
She bowed slightly and walked away, leaving Mikhail alone.
Knock! Knock!!
Mikhail knocked twice on the door before he took a step back.
"Come in."
A voice echoed from the other side of the door and Mikhail recognised it. It was the same one that had allowed Brandon to use a sword.
Mikhail twisted the doorknob and walked inside. He took in the empty room that only had a table and two chairs on opposite sides.
On one of the chairs sat a beautiful lady with long scarlet hair and eyes.
’Madam Liliana.’
Mikhail guessed, walking closer and standing in front of the seat.
Liliana took the initiative and introduced herself while extending her hand. "Liliana, vice principal of Aegon Imperial University."
He shook her hand. "Mikhail Brightburn."
She gestured him to sit down and Mikhail did as asked while Methew jumped down to walk towards the corner.
Without saying anything, Liliana opened the suitcase that was placed beside her.
Mikhail frowned when she took out an ordinary looking mask and wore it on her face.
"What are you...."
His words died in his mouth when the two holes around the eyes of the mask began to glow.
Mikhail felt like a veil had wrapped around his mind, constraining it.
His thoughts became sluggish and his eyes began to grow heavy.
’What....is....happening...?’
The slowing down of his thoughts like a jammed machine made Mikhail terrified.
"It’s an Artifact known as Hypnotic Mask-2-2282, owned by the royal family."
Liliana’s voice echoed in his ears loud and clear.
"It’s a Stage 2 Artifact that is used to interrogate criminals. Under the mask’s influence, one cannot lie no matter what."
Mikhail grew even more anxious as his mind slowly took in the severity of the situation.
’I...need...to....do....something.’
Mikhail thought slowly, feeling a distress like never before.
If the news about his [Outer God] class got out then his life would be finished.
Just as Liliana was about to ask the first question, Mikhail lowered his gaze.
With what mental strength he could muster, he used [Enhancement] on his mind.
In an instant, he felt all the blood in his body rush to his brain.
Like a charged battery, his brain shuddered and immediately his thoughts began to return to normal.
Mikhail didn’t dare to look up, fearing he would lose control once he saw the light emitting from the mask.
Liliana didn’t find anything abnormal on the surface as she picked up a pen and notebook.
"Is your class really Tamer?" She asked the first question.
Mikhail thought for a while and replied in a sluggish tone. "...No."
A smile bloomed on Liliana’s face. "Then what is your class?"
"I...don’t...know." Mikhail replied, keeping up his act of being under the mask’s influence.
The lady frowned but didn’t press further. She was sure that Mikhail couldn’t lie right now.
"What is your skill?"
Mikhail thought for a long second before he replied. "...[Steal]."
The name was more than enough for Liliana to form her own hypothesis.
"Is that why you can use [Black Spike], a skill from the Assassin class?" She asked, gently touching her mask. "And tame the yellow cat?"
"....Yes." He replied sluggishly.
Liliana took a few seconds to write everything down in the notebook.
Then she asked. "Do you think your class is above Emperor rank?"
"I...don’t...know..." Mikhail said after a while. "I...am...not...sure."
Liliana let out a disappointed sigh but didn’t stop.
She leaned in and asked in a serious tone. "If given a chance to have a much better life, would you betray your kingdom?"
’Ah, so this is why they use hypnosis on students. To weed out the bad apples.’
"...No." Mikhail said slowly. "I..will...die...for...my...kingdom."
Liliana let out a satisfied smile and asked the next question.
She kept on asking him more questions about religion, wars and royal family.
Mikhail gave the answers she wanted to hear.
After fifteen minutes of back and forth, Liliana was finally satisfied.
"Alright, let’s end this now." She said, putting the mask back inside the briefcase. "Any longer and you will turn into a retard."
’Excuse me?’ Mikhail did his best not to show any reaction.
After putting aside the mask, Liliana raised her hand in front of his face.
"You will forget everything that I asked." She said and snapped her fingers.
Mikhail blinked his eyes like he had just come out of the hypnosis.
He turned his face towards her with a confused look. "Madam Liliana?"
She nodded and leaned back. "You can go now."
Mikhail remained confused as he stood up and grabbed Methew.
When he reached the door, he paused and glanced back. "Will the Imperial University take me in?"
"Yes." She nodded honestly. "You and Kevin were always selected for the university. The screening was just for show."
Mikhail wanted to ask more but she quickly said. "No more questions, get out."
Liliana didn’t tell Mikhail, but the hypnosis mask had a big flaw. The one who used it could not lie for the next two days.
Mikhail nodded and walked out of the room, immediately feeling a heavy rock lift from his chest.
He had really thought he was caught and part of him had already been planning to run away with his family.
’...I survived because of luck.’ He thought, taking deep breaths. ’I need to find more information about Artifacts and find a way to bypass something similar.’
He walked outside and fell deep in thought. ’My ability to [Steal] is now public. I have to be careful about it.’
Mikhail was already planning different ways he could use the gap of knowledge to his advantage.
The interview with Liliana would definitely work in his favour, and Mikhail was sure the royals would cherish and help him grow to his full potential.
He had made sure to appear pro-royalty.
’This way I will keep my head until I am strong enough to defend myself.’
He let out a sigh and reached the auditorium.
The third test was already over and the students were all standing back on the ground.
Mikhail joined the line and watched the professors of the three colleges give their speeches.
After that, Professor Alan announced the end of the college screening.
The results would be announced the next morning.
