I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 60: A Change
Randy turned to look at Murphy and nodded his head in affirmation. This was not a secret anyways.
"Fierce Tiger Bandits?" Miguel inquired, trying to make Murphy elaborate.
Murphy nodded his head.
"They are a famous bandit group in Blazing Expanse. As far as I know, they are in the top 3, in terms of notoriety and strength. Their leader is said to be a grimoire user with a Golden King Beast."
When he heard that, Miguel began to get curious about the power structure in Blazing Expanse.
As far as he knew, the Red Family was the number 1 force in Blazing Expanse. They controlled most of the territories and most of their core family members were in an official position in various parts of Blazing Expanse, appointed by the Meven Emperor himself.
Aside from them, there were also other families that resided here.
Bandits on the other hand were the scourge of society. Most people hate them as they would always pillage small villages, steal rare resources and even ambush officials.
However, due to their nature, they have a lot of strong members, and they could not be easily eradicated due to their base location being a complete mystery and how crafty they were.
When the others heard the name of this bandit group, everyone gulped a mouthful of saliva even more, especially the girls.
It was rumored that the Fierce Tiger Bandits had the tendency to kidnap young girls and sacrifice them to an evil being to gain power.
Could it be that the rumors were true?
This question lingered on the girls’ minds, including Erika.
She looked at the leader and said with a little tremble in her voice, "You won’t get away with this. The Red Family will surely pursue you to the end."
The leader merely smirked at her remarks though, "Huh, I am obviously afraid. We are afraid, right? Guys?"
The other bandits laughed to their heart’s content, even Randy had a little smile on his face while shaking his head, amused at her words.
If they were afraid of the Red Family’s retaliation, would they even dare to try to kidnap her and the young grimoire summoners in the first place?
Erika gritted her teeth in anger from the bandit’s casual responses. Her heart was in turmoil, extremely afraid of what was about to happen next, especially after learning the name of this bandit group.
She regretted the fact that she carelessly hired mercenaries like this. Amongst the mercenaries she hired, only Murphy was the clean one. Her eyes teared up, but she quickly wiped it away, afraid that the others might see it.
"Don’t worry guys, the Red Family will surely save us. I already sent the signal before, they must be looking for us right now," she said, trying to appease everyone.
The girls nodded their head, her words brought them a little hope and comfort on this despairing situation.
However, hearing that, the bandits merely laughed to themselves.
"Do you really think we would not have countermeasures for such a scenario? You’ll only see the Red Family, if we want to. We have planned this for months, you know."
"Alright, enough rest, we’ll continue to the temporary base," the leader stated as he took one of the Wind Horses.
Miguel and the others boarded their carriages once more, each of them were silent, despair lingered on their hearts. They began to question themselves if they could truly escape, or be saved, just like what Erika promised.
As the two carriage moved forward in the direction of Ghost Wail Mountain with the escort of the other Wind Horses, Miguel still had a lingering question on his mind.
Why Ghost Wail Mountain? 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
He heard the leader mention about the temporary base earlier, and he immediately guessed that the temporary base must be at this location.
However, compared to other locations, Ghost Wail Mountain should be the most dangerous one due to its unique and mysterious properties.
Other forbidden areas had a clear enemy, the Golden King Beast that regarded such areas as their territories. However, Ghost Wail Mountain was different. There were a lot of factors and drawbacks in choosing such a location.
Not only do they not know the enemy and the real source of danger on this mountain, there was also a high chance of going crazy if they ventured deep inside.
They must have chosen the Ghost Wail Mountain for a reason.
Could it be that they already knew the real danger of this place, and had ways of avoiding it?
This was the only reason that he could think of for them to choose such a mysterious and dangerous place.
In truth, Miguel was actually not willing to set foot in such a place yet. Even though he was also curious, there was no reason for him to risk his life venturing on this unexplored mountain.
Thinking of that, Miguel was already searching for ways to escape the current predicament. There were a lot of unknown factors in the mountain that he did not want to find out.
Miguel looked around and noticed the two bandits looking at everyone intently. The two of them were alert, ready to strike if they ever saw someone trying to summon their grimoire.
In fact, right at this moment, one of them suddenly moved and made a kick towards Miguel’s direction.
However, Miguel did not flinch, as the kick went past him and landed on the person beside him.
"Damn it!"
Gasper cursed loudly as he sat up. A dirty foot print visible on his face at this moment after he received the bandit’s kick.
He gritted his teeth and looked at the bandit in hatred.
He wanted to retaliate and be the hero that saved everyone from this current predicament. However, he did not know what to do.
He grunted in frustration, aggrieved due to his inability to save everyone. His mind and heart was in turmoil. He could not accept the fact that he could do nothing to save everyone and his own cousin.
What genius? He was clearly just a normal kid just like the others.
This realization and acceptance dawned on him at the most unfortunate time.
However, it was also due to this sudden moment that his mind seemed to become clear and calm. His turmoiled heart calmed down as he finally accepted his own flaw.
A heavy weight was lifted off his shoulders. His clouded mind cleared as he let go of his obsession of being the best and the genius that everyone thought and expected him to be.
He looked around and realized that everyone doesn’t seem to be as irritating as before, especially Miguel who was beside him. However, the bandits, especially Randy and the two bandits who were keeping an eye on them were still as hateful in his eyes at this moment.
As his mind was cleared from the self-doubt, Gasper suddenly scooted towards Miguel, a look of hatred and resolve flashed on his eyes as he whispered in a very soft voice, "If I help you escape, are you confident in saving us?"
Miguel was obviously surprised at Gasper’s question. His voice was calm and low, yet Miguel felt the hatred and resolve hidden deep within it.
Along with that was a change in temperament that Miguel felt a little surprising and out of the ordinary.
