I Faked My Death—Now I Have to Tame the Crazy Men I Left Behind-Chapter 34 - 32: Good Children Can’t Act Like This
Silas Grant didn’t think much of it.
It was just an address. When Mia asked for it, he simply gave it to her.
Compared to the empty tomb, Silas Grant was far more concerned with other, more important matters. "Military training is almost over," he asked. "Have you considered moving out?"
’...’ Mia remembered Kian Keller telling her to move in with him.
’Now, I probably won’t have to go.’
’He’s still in the hospital, after all.’ 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
At this thought, she shook her head. "No, I don’t think so. Living on campus is pretty convenient, and my roommates are all easy to get along with."
"Alright." Silas Grant didn’t press the issue.
’It’s like boiling a frog in slowly warming water; you can’t rush things.’
As promised, Silas Grant personally drove her back to school.
Downstairs from the dormitory, inside the back of the car.
Mia Grant waved goodbye, ready to bolt.
Quick as a flash, Silas Grant grabbed her hand and pulled her back.
The car door, which had opened a crack, was slammed shut with a THUD.
Mia’s eyelid twitched violently. ’What do you think you’re doing now?’
"Brother?" She turned back, her expression bewildered.
The pads of his fingers slid gently across the back of her hand, caressing it over and over. He held it as if he couldn’t bear to let go, like he was handling a precious treasure.
Silas Grant never had a hand fetish; he just really enjoyed physical contact with her.
Before, he had never understood why Kian Keller was never seen without his string of beads, why he was always fiddling with his Buddha Beads no matter what he was doing.
Only now that it was happening to him did he understand the feeling.
Savoring the sensation under his fingertips, he found it truly did seem to soothe his restlessness.
After a long moment, Silas Grant spoke, his voice unhurried. "Next weekend, can you spare a little time for your brother?"
’He’s asking me out.’
Mia Grant nodded hesitantly and asked him what for.
"Come with your brother on a trip to Portia."
Mia now had a stress reaction just hearing the name of that place.
Her constricted pupils didn’t escape Silas Grant’s notice. He smiled and gave her fingers a reassuring squeeze, trying to get her to lower her guard.
"Don’t worry, it’s just for fun."
"We’ll be back on Monday, so it won’t interfere with your classes."
"...Alright."
"So if there’s nothing else, I’ll be going?"
Mia stared at him for a few seconds before pulling her hand back with a sigh of relief.
"Not even a goodbye for your brother?"
"Goodbye, brother?" Mia complied readily.
Behind her, the man sighed in resignation. "Mia, don’t be so dismissive. It makes your brother sad, you know."
Mia turned her head back, her gaze meeting his slightly narrowed, fox-like eyes.
He looked like an elder, sitting there primly in his suit, gazing down at a mischievous child playing at his feet, his eyes full of both exasperation and indulgence.
’And yet, what he cares about most is that hypocritical mask of his. He’s a perfectionist who won’t allow his facade to be torn away in front of others, demanding sophistication and propriety in everything.’
’But now he gave off a feeling that... that even if a child were to sit on his lap, dirty his expensive handmade suit, break his gold-rimmed glasses, and climb all over his head messing up his hair, he wouldn’t get angry.’
’He’d just smile indulgently, lift the child down, and gently say, "Now, now, a good child wouldn’t do that."’
Mia even had the absurd thought that while Silas Grant might not be a good partner, he would definitely be a great father.
’Compared to Kian Keller and the others, he’s more patient and better at communicating with people he considers beneath him.’
As they stared at each other, Silas saw her dazed expression and conceded, opening his arms for a hug.
’Sometimes, you don’t need to get caught up in the details.’
’A Hunter must be patient. He didn’t mind guiding her one step at a time.’
Mia blinked, then came to her senses and stepped forward to hug him.
Silas Grant leaned down and kissed her cheek. "I’m going back to Portia this week. You be good and stay at school, alright? Don’t go running off. If you need anything, you can still contact me."
"And stop using the phone Kian Keller gave you."
He was subtly warning her that it was being tracked.
After she got out of the car, Silas Grant’s secretary handed her a new phone. The SIM card inside was for her old number.
She had thrown her old SIM card into the ocean, but Silas Grant had actually gotten her a replacement.
Mia kept the SIM card, remembering she still had two hundred yuan in her WeChat account that she hadn’t withdrawn before she’d jumped into the ocean. As for the phone...
’Kian Keller and Silas Grant are two peas in a pod, so their methods are probably similar.’
’Six of one, half a dozen of the other.’
’If Kian Keller’s phone had a tracker, the one from Silas Grant probably did too.’
In the end, she used neither. She tossed them both into her locker at the dorm and locked it tight, then ordered a brand-new phone for herself.
The system still hadn’t returned, and Mia worried that things might have gone off-script. After classes officially started, she did everything she could to avoid all the male leads.
’But I was so focused on avoiding the male leads, I completely forgot about the female lead!’
’I never imagined Serena Grant would be at Jynsia U too!’
’And in my major, no less!’
In the lecture hall, Mia sat in a back row, her brow furrowed as she watched Serena Grant get swarmed with love letters.
’How did I not notice before?’
Beside her, her roommate was gushing:
"How many is that now?"
"Serena Grant is so popular! She can’t even fit all those love letters in her bag."
"She became famous overnight during military training. I’m so jealous."
"Famous overnight from what?" Mia casually held up a book to hide her face and whispered, "What did I miss the last two days?"
"It was Serena Grant! She was the star of the show on the last night of military training."
"She was asked to perform, and she did this folk dance. The video clip already has over a hundred thousand likes!"
Her roommate thoughtfully pulled up the video and the campus forum for her. "See? Everyone’s raving about her natural beauty. They’re calling her the dark horse of the freshman class—smart, beautiful, and with a great figure. She’s a shoo-in for first place in the next campus belle contest."
"That’s why everyone’s lining up to give her love letters and ask for her contact info."
"But if we’re talking smart and pretty, I think our Kitty is number one!"
Mia, who had been scrolling through the forum enjoying the gossip, quickly clamped a hand over her roommate’s mouth. "Shh!"
’She’s got the protagonist’s halo. I have no interest in competing with her over something so pointless.’
’Campus belle, who cares? It’s completely unimportant to me.’
’My life’s motto is: As long as I don’t become a laughingstock, I’ll survive.’
’The gossip is what’s important here.’
"What’s this one?"
She saw a post saying the Jynsia U school hunk was intensely pursuing the new freshman campus belle.
Without a doubt, the new campus belle had to be Serena Grant.
’But who’s this ’school hunk’?’
"Who else could it be? Felix Sinclair, of course!"
"Who???"
Her roommate pulled up a photo from the welcome gala. "Here! This is Felix Sinclair giving a speech as the freshman representative. He’s drop-dead gorgeous!"
In the photo, the young man had shed the unseasoned look of his school uniform days, replaced by a well-tailored black suit. His gaze, directed at the camera, was calm and impassive.
’Sheesh... he really is handsome at first glance.’
’But that’s not the point.’
She asked about the post.
Her roommate said, "Someone saw Felix Sinclair come pick up Serena Grant after military training ended. He even gave her bubble tea and a love letter."
What?!
Mia’s jaw dropped. "So you’re saying Felix Sinclair is actually pursuing Serena Grant?!"
