I Have a Dice Left by a God-Chapter 440 - 32: Meng Po
Jina precisely appreciates Lin Fei for her openness, her relentless drive, yet stable determination, and her fearlessness. However, this time the pressure from the top to bottom in the agency is immense, as newspaper sales signify discourse power. It is absolutely unacceptable for Flying Bird Daily to surpass them, and if Lin Fei can’t secure the win, she must step down from her position.
Lin Fei headed to Celestial Principle Academy, having no other choice now. The academy is a power from Moncalleta, a deep collaboration between Li Long Kingdom and Moncalleta Kingdom. She learned a bit from Kathy that both parties enjoy a pleasant cooperation and each gets what they need, growth is an inevitable trend. Moncalleta Kingdom acquiesces in the growth and expansion of Hex-Tech, Li Long allows Celestial Principle School to hold public lectures beyond just the Canon Law School.
Celestial Principle School’s development in Li Long has been faster than anywhere else, even surpassing its birthplace Hedan. Back then, Governor Luthor laid a flawless conceptual foundation, and the school was well-received in Dragon Capital. As the core philosophical ideas were established, it took off directly, and "Unity of Knowledge and Action" sparked fervent discussions throughout Dao Yuan Continent.
The carriage stopped a few hundred meters away from Celestial Principle Academy. Lin Fei instructed the carriage to wait by the roadside as she walked over, to avoid disrupting the academy’s normal order.
At the academy’s entrance, security was evidently much stricter than before. Though the guards recognized Lin Fei, they still did not allow her entry.
"Reporter Lin, it’s best not to wait; today is no exception," the guard said. Unlike others, this guard found Reporter Lin’s demeanor and personality quite agreeable, thus spoke a bit more.
Not wanting to burden the guards, Lin Fei said, "I won’t disturb your work, nor will I affect the academy’s order. I’ll just wait over there. A scholar I met once also mentioned that Celestial Principle School might need an interview, though it may not necessarily be with Citizen Daily. But I’d like a chance, is that alright?"
The guards exchanged glances. "Reporter Lin, why go to such lengths? We are only responsible for maintaining order; as long as you don’t disturb anything, it’s beyond our concern."
"Thank you, guard brother."
"Reporter Lin, you can wait over there, it’s cooler without the sun," one of the guards suggested.
Lin Fei nodded and moved aside, waiting quietly. Though waiting was a slow method, it was the only option available to her at the moment. She didn’t wish to approach Kathy for every trivial matter; if she couldn’t accomplish anything herself, then leaving was the right thing to do.
Lin Fei wasn’t standing idly by either; she clearly noticed that foot traffic had increased today with people coming and going. Judging by the carriages and attire, important figures from various Canon Law Schools were arriving, along with nobles bringing children, some being turned away while others granted entry. Those who got in were indeed remarkable.
Could it be that the Grand Scholar from Hedan... has arrived?
Meanwhile, Li Xin also started work, unfortunate that Xueyin didn’t see the handsome man in uniform.
The Night Patrol uniform is still very cool, black robes emblazoned with the unique emblem of the Night Patrol. In Dragon Capital, Night Patrols are divided into brigades, hence the Shadow Owl emblem adorns the sleeve, giving a slightly different vibe, making one feel more upright. No wonder unified uniforms are necessary—they indeed foster a sense of belonging.
Li Xin arrived at 88 Hehuan Road, met Meng Po, who sat leisurely at the entrance basking in the morning sun while knitting, her demeanor akin to an amiable grandma from the old alleys, holding Li Xin’s gaze for three seconds.
"Good morning, Sister Meng," Li Xin greeted with a smile.
"Li Yinxiao, you’re early today. That uniform is sharp as ever. In our team, you, Tang Yinxiao, and the captain most resemble Night Patrol, while those other misfits are just embarrassing," Meng Po commented.
"Has Captain Jiang and Captain Tang arrived yet?"
"They haven’t; they don’t appear frequently. Are you looking for them?"
"Not particularly. Is our Shadow Owl assigned only to this area?" Li Xin gestured as he asked. Although the three-story building is spacious, it seems lacking in something. Night Patrol enjoys digging tunnels, and as vice-captain, it’s reasonable that any tunnels should be disclosed to him, right?
Meng Po chuckled, put down her knitting. "Dragon Capital differs from elsewhere. To prevent Night Patrol from abusing power, we are permitted to investigate cases and arrest suspects. However, we can only detain them for a day and a night. If further detention is required, they are handed over to City Guards or Knight Order; ordinary suspects to City Guards, dangerous ones like the Fallen are transferred to Knight Order or Church Court. We don’t conduct trials; this wasn’t our role before either. Previously, Night Patrol handled everything. Temporary interrogation and detention occur on the third floor, but it’s best not to hold dangerous individuals for long.
From his conversation with Jiang Wu yesterday, Li Xin could sense Night Patrol’s awkward position currently. This issue isn’t unique to Shadow Owl, but widespread among all Night Patrol teams. Nominally, Night Patrol falls under royal jurisdiction, yet in Li Long, Church Court clearly has greater influence, with captain appointments and commendations under their purview. It’s evident both Cabinet and Council are quite wary, though as a minor vice-captain, it’s beyond his concern. On the contrary, in other cities, Night Patrol enjoys more freedom.
"Given our limited space, only the brigade captain has a personal office. Others utilize any vacant spot for case handling, Li Yinxiao, don’t mind," Meng Po explained.
"Not at all, Sister Meng. Who organizes our materials, any other personnel?"
"Ah, the materials, cleaning and the likes fall on me. If anything is amiss here, just come to me," Meng Po said with a smile.
"Seems you’re more of Manager Meng," Li Xin remarked. "The categorization in the archive room is very clear and well-organized, making searches convenient. Truly hard work."
Meng Po was slightly surprised. "Not much, it’s my job."
"Sister Meng, where can I buy coffee?" Li Xin asked. He still needed a morning cup to feel energized.
"A few meters right at the street corner, there’s one. If you want, I can go buy it for you?"
"No need, I’m fine. I’ll take a walk and familiarize myself with the area," Li Xin waved his hand.
If you want more than just a job, you have to enjoy your work. The Hehuan Street area, located at the junction of four districts, is quite prosperous. Although these districts have clear geographic demarcations, their architectural styles are very similar. When asked, people always attribute location to East or West districts more than North or South, even if barely in the East or West district, it’s often claimed.
Within ten minutes, Li Xin bought two cups of coffee and a glass of milk, returned to Shadow Owl, and handed a cup to Meng Po. "What’s the child’s name? Can he drink milk?"
Meng Po glanced at the child playing with blocks. "Thanks, yes he can," she said, placing the coffee down, patting the child then gently guided his hand to his mouth. Only then did the child blankly start drinking.
