Chapter 68: The Other Contestants

Raiden never thought he had a phobia of height and fast speeds, until today.

"Can we go a little slower!!" Raiden held on for his dear life as he found himself sitting on the back of that Massive Phoenix as it travelled through the supersonic speeds, breaking the sonic barriers with a boom again and again.

"Hahaha, my boy. That’s the fun part. Hold on!! We are about to arrive!!" Old Man Sol laughed as he patted Raiden’s shoulder hard, almost breaking it.

Feeling the pain, Raiden didn’t say anything as he just closed his eyes and hoped it would soon be over.

"Hahaha, our little friend here is enjoying the ride a lot. Go faster!! Fly even higher!! Let us soar above the clouds!!" Old Man Sol laughed heartily as he spoke in a booming voice.

"NOO!!"

"CHIRRP~!"

Raiden felt his cry drown out in the cries of a large phoenix, as it flapped its wings even faster, ascending toward the sky at breakneck pace, causing Raiden’s heart to almost leap out of his chest.

Morgana, on the other hand, found herself sitting in her mother’s embrace safely as she watched the comical scene.

She quietly took out a small camera and took a picture of him, saving it for later as blackmail material.

Amidst the chaotic ride, they reached their destination before Raiden realised it.

As soon as the phoenix entered the new city airspace, they were intercepted by even more flying Terrans from all sides, with Battle Masters sitting on top, who looked at them tensely.

"You are entering Silver Peak City airspace, please identify yourself, my lord."

A man sitting on a 100-meter golden eagle took the lead, but he looked laughably small compared to the giant phoenix.

"Hahaha, it’s me, President of Verdant Hollow, here for the Intercity competition." The old man took the lead and said as he stood on the top of the phoenix’s head.

"So it’s you, my lord. Please forgive us for stopping you like this. But can you please land somewhere outside the city? I fear your Terran will cause a mass panic if we let it enter the city. Thank you." The man bowed down deeply as he somewhat requested in a begging tone. It was way above his pay grade to deal with someone like this.

"Sure, sure, just let me know where." The old man agreed jovially.

"Thank you, my lord. Please follow me." The man heaved a sigh of relief as he started leading them towards a military station in front of the city.

As soon as they landed, they found themselves surrounded by soldiers who looked at them with wary expressions.

The man appeared before the group once more as he spoke.

"Please follow us, President. We have arranged a convoy that will take you directly to your resting place in the city." The man bowed once more, and only moved up after the old man nodded his head.

Soon, the group reached a convoy of Blacked out Band Grovers standing there, with drivers in black suits and glasses waiting for them as they opened their doors.

Raiden, who was following behind, felt unfamiliar with so much respect and formality towards him, but kept a straight face as he followed Morgana, who seemed to be used to such occasions inside one of the cars.

"I’ll be taking another car with your grandfather. We need to discuss something. You, kids enjoy yourselves, okay?" Isadora waved her hands as she followed the Old Man into the different car, leaving him and Morgana alone.

"Please take a seat, esteemed guests." The man in black opened the back door for them as they climbed aboard.

Soon, the car started moving as the outside scene changed from a military station to that of an extremely opulent city.

Sitting in the car, Raiden looked outside the window in wonder as he started comparing this city with Verdant Hollow.

"Stop staring like someone who has never seen the world. I don’t want you to embarrass us in front of other contestants from different cities. You are not just representing yourself, but the whole city." Morgana said as she gave him the side eye.

"Yeah, yeah, I understand. Respect, power, face, all that bullshit. I will deal with it later." Raiden waved his hands dismissively as he patted Woolie while staring outside in wonder.

"You!!" Morgana felt angry at his dismissive attitude.

With a ’Humph’, she turned her head towards the other side, ignoring Raiden as they went through the ride silently the whole way.

Fifteen minutes later, they finally reached their destination.

In front of Raiden’s eyes was the most extravagant hotel he had ever seen.

With hundreds of floors tall, the whole building looked like it was made of gold and platinum, with the entrance made of solid gold.

Standing in front of it, Raiden felt what poverty was for the first time in his life.

He snapped out of it when Morgana got up angrily and started walking towards the check-in with an angry face.

He hurriedly followed after her, acting extremely careful not to touch anything.

He feared that if he broke anything in here, he wouldn’t be able to pay it all back, even if he sold himself.

"Checking in, Morgana Sol from Verdant Hollow," Morgana spoke to the girl on the desk in an extremely cold tone.

"And Raiden Ashford." Raiden chimed from the side.

"Welcome, dear guests. Thank you for visiting The Durandal Palace. Please give me a moment to check your rooms." The girl smiled politely as she typed away on the keyboard.

"Alright, here are your keycards. You are both on the 75th floor; someone will come here soon to lead you to your rooms. I hope you have a pleasant stay."

"Hey, beautiful little sister, how much does a room here cost per night?" Raiden asked curiously.

The girl paused in her steps before she answered politely.

"The basic room here starts at 5 Million Credits, with higher rooms costing up to 100 Million per night. But we are usually booked for months in advance, dear guest."

Hearing the numbers, Raiden felt what true poverty felt like.

"I was wondering who was making so much commotion at the front desk. It’s such a pleasant surprise to see you, my dear Morgana. Who is this peasant with you?? Did he wander in here accidentally?? I will have him thrown out in an instant."

"Haa?!"
