I Reawakened as an Inferno Hero-Chapter 55: Second mystery
Axel squinted his eyes, more keenly this time. The symbol suddenly became blurry, and he couldn’t say why. It wasn’t that it actually was; it was only his vision, how he saw it now.
He blinked.
Blink ~ Blink
He tried again.
Blink ~ Blink
And then, for the last time.
Blink ~ Blink
He could see the symbol on the glove more clearly now. It was no longer blurry.
It was a symbol of three monsters and then a man-like figure, seemingly standing on the neck of a figure which looked like a king. Well, he looked like one because he was wearing what looked like a crown on his head.
Axel found it odd, and so he remembered that he had earlier seen a symbol like this.
He scratched his head now, thinking, where had he seen it?
The others stared at him, even his father. They didn’t say a word. They were letting him think; perhaps he was onto something here.
They were letting him cook.
Axel raised the glove towards the ceiling, then he looked at it more precisely. The lambent lighting the bulbs provided made it sort of ominous, like the glove was something they found from an alien.
Chrysa was walking towards him now. Axel looked at her and shrugged, saying:
"What could this symbol on the glove mean?"
Chrysa shrugged also.
"With the way you were staring at it, it seemed familiar perhaps?"
It suddenly came!
Like a zephyr, it blew into Axel’s brain. He suddenly remembered where he had seen it. It suddenly struck him.
It was he and Dan who were fighting against the monster back on Earth. Well, he hadn’t necessarily fought the monster though. Dan had done that. And so, when the monster was defeated, they had seen a symbol on it. He had forgotten where exactly, but he was thinking it was at the side of its neck.
Axel remembered the symbol.
It was one of three spaceships with a figure by the middle.
Well, it was quite similar to the one he had seen on the glove just some seconds ago.
The one on the glove was that of three monsters and then a figure like a king in the middle.
This was interesting.
Axel quickly explained to them all the symbol that was on the glove and how he had seen something similar on a monster’s body he and Dan fought.
After hearing him, Chrysa paced around a bit.
"So what are you insinuating?" she asked.
Axel lowered his voice, more like he made it soft, and said:
"What do you guys think? How does this lead to Dan betraying us?"
A series of ’hmmm’ filled the place as they all cogitated on the possibilities.
Finally, Chrysa broke their series of thoughts:
"I’ve got an idea," she said and looked at their faces, waiting for someone to be like,
"C’mon."
But then, no one said a word, and so she had to continue with:
"I say we send out about two people to go out and look for monsters. Not necessarily face a horde or something like that but instead, kill one and briskly bring them here."
They all nodded their heads, impressed with her words.
She continued:
"I suggest Axel go along, with someone following him just in case, as he has super speed and so him dragging the monster here and not being seen won’t be a problem."
Axel applauded. "Okay, nice suggestion. But if I and whoever will follow me bring the dead monster’s body, what is the purpose of us bringing it? Why do you need it?"
Chrysa smiled.
"To study it," she said. "The gloves that cover my hands are actually very quality in scanning and analyzing stuff. I can scan an object and go to its backstory and stuff, and that’s what I’ll do. I’ll scan the glove, and then pick out the object. I’ll also do the same with the monster."
Spinal Edge squinted her eyes and asked:
"Okay, are you saying there’ll be a symbol on the monster’s body?"
Chrysa shrugged. "I can’t say, but with someone that has a lot of tech stuff in my armor, which is like my superhero suit, I’m saying that there’ll be a ninety-nine point nine percent chance I’ll find one."
Axel smiled. He was starting to admire her superpowers.
’Oh, she doesn’t have one.’
But nonetheless, this was great. He couldn’t think of how many other gadgets or tech stuff she had in her suit right now. And so he concluded that she was the strongest superhero in the squad. Powerful would be the right word.
Spinal Edge’s powers were cool, but he sort of found it weird. Removing your bones and then forging them to form cool weapons was dope. She could also regenerate as she was the least injured one in their fight. It was cool, but he didn’t find it ’too’ great as she would have to feel a bit of pain when removing the bones.
Voidbreaker’s was kinda dope. His was channeling black hole fragments into his strikes, causing brief distortions in gravity around his attacks. It sounded cool and wasn’t complicated, and it was just strikes, and he could also fly. He didn’t see where the obsession with flight and superheroes came from. Every single one he knew flew.
The one that surprised him was Dan, with his electro-sonic fists powers (also his name). Axel didn’t see the reason for him flying. It was just not important because what was the use of flight when one could also summon portals? It felt like being overpowered.
Mirrormeld’s was to duplicate herself and then put spirit mirrors behind her as she fought. It seemed really cool and unique to Axel. He knew of quite a number of superheroes who duplicated, but none had a mirror behind them.
All the others were good, but to him, Chrysa was super cool.
Axel smiled now; he didn’t even know why he was thinking about their superpowers. Perhaps just for the sake of thinking?
Chrysa disrupted his thoughts now. She was asking him:
"So who are you choosing to go with you?"
"My dad," came the reply from Axel.
