Chapter 37: Chapter 37: The Bone Dragon Battle

The Spectral Bone Dragon roared.

Lucifer sat perfectly still on his Nightmare Steed. The concussive wave washed over him, completely neutralized by the heavy gravity of his Warlord aura.

"Vanguards! Dragoons! Bring that beast to the ground!" Lucifer ordered.

[System Warning: Legendary Boss Encounter!]

[Entity: Spectral Bone Dragon (Level 48)]

[Status: Enraged.]

The monster was as big as a small mountain. Its pale ribs were as thick as large, ancient trees. Its wings, made of sharp bones and torn, glowing green energy, stretched hundreds of feet across the Scourgelands.

A heavy wave of dark death magic spread from its body, quickly freezing the broken ground beneath it.

The Aether-Steel Dragoons responded instantly.

They did not break their tight formation. Their floating magitech thrusters burned bright blue as they changed direction, aiming their heavy shoulder cannons upward.

A loud, unified sound echoed across the battlefield.

The blasts hit the Bone Dragon square in the chest. The explosions were massive.

Blue fire swept across the pale white bone, cracking its hard shell and sending huge broken pieces crashing down onto the grey, dusty ground below.

The Bone Dragon shrieked in irritation, but it did not fall.

The monster’s sheer size and its Level 48 status made it incredibly resilient to standard magical attacks.

The energy blasts burned its bones, but they couldn’t break through the thick green energy protecting its core.

The dragon snapped its huge jaws and took a deep breath, pulling the dark fog into its throat.

A dull, pulsing green light began to glow deep inside its chest.

"It’s preparing a breath attack!" Lady Scarlett yelled over the comms rune. Her mercenaries were scrambling backward, desperate to put distance between themselves and the impending blast.

"Elara," Lucifer said quietly.

Elara gently laid the unconscious Dawn Saintess on the ground, entrusting her to the protective circle of the five hundred Radiant Arch-Seraphs.

She stood up. Her golden eyes locked onto the towering dragon.

She summoned her own Nightmare Steed from the shadows. The dark, smoke-wreathed horse materialized beside her, its red eyes burning with infernal heat.

She reached over her shoulder and pulled a massive, heavy javelin from its leather sheath. The weapon was forged of pure celestial steel, pulsing with a blinding golden light.

"I have the sky," Elara said with all confidence and divine authority.

She spurred her Nightmare Steed.

The beast didn’t run along the ground. It leapt straight up into the air.

Its flaming hooves hit invisible, solid platforms of dark magic, lifting Elara higher and higher into the purple-streaked clouds.

The Fallen Valkyrie shot straight toward the Bone Dragon’s huge skull.

The dragon stopped inhaling. It noticed the tiny, glowing speck flying toward it.

The monster snapped its jaws forward.

A stream of green, necrotic fire shot from its throat. It was like a small hurricane of death magic, big enough to burn down a whole city block.

The fiery breath rushed toward Elara, ready to destroy her and her mount in an instant.

She stood up in her stirrups, balancing perfectly on the galloping Nightmare Steed. She raised her celestial javelin with both hands.

"Burn!" Elara roared.

She hurled the heavy golden weapon directly into the center of the incoming necrotic fire.

The celestial javelin met the liquid green fire in mid-air. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

The golden magic of the javelin instantly devoured the necrotic energy. The massive stream of green fire parted perfectly around the javelin, flowing harmlessly past Elara and her steed.

Elara rode straight through the parted flames.

She broke out of the necrotic firestorm mere feet from the Bone Dragon’s skull. The monster’s empty, green-flaming eye sockets widened in shock.

It snapped its massive jaws, trying to bite the Valkyrie out of the air.

Elara slid back into the saddle and pulled hard on the reins.

The Nightmare Steed banked sharply, dodging the snapping teeth by inches. Elara drew her silver spear in a blur of motion.

She channeled her divine light into the blade and drove the weapon deep into the side of the dragon’s skull.

CRACK.

The celestial magic exploded inside the bone. The dragon let out a deafening, pained roar. It swung its huge head violently, trying to throw the Valkyrie off.

Elara held tight, her golden wings spreading to keep her steady in the wild air, driving her spear again and again into the monster’s thick skull armor.

Down on the ground, Lucifer watched the aerial duel.

Elara was doing exactly what he needed. She was drawing all the attention. The Bone Dragon was completely focused on the golden speck attacking its face, ignoring the army below entirely.

But Elara was only Level 40. She was incredibly strong, but she could not kill a Level 48 mountain of bone by herself. She was buying time.

Just right on time, Sarah arrived with the Cryo-Vanguard Snipers

Lucifer tapped his comms rune.

"Sarah," Lucifer said.

A few yards behind the Dragoons, stepped forward.

She looked pale, but the starlight in her eyes was steady and bright.

She had rested during the march. She was ready.

"I am here, Lucifer," Sarah replied. Her voice was strong.

"The Valkyrie has its attention," Lucifer stated smoothly.

"But it is thrashing too violently for the snipers to lock onto its core. I need it pinned. Can you ground it?"

Sarah looked up at the Bone Dragon. She calculated its massive size, the density of its necrotic shield, and the chaotic wind currents.

"It is too large to bind completely," Sarah admitted. She gripped her scepter tighter. "But I can restrict its mobility. I can tether its wings."

"Do it," Lucifer ordered.

Sarah did not hesitate.

She planted the base of the Scepter of Cosmic Alignment firmly into the ash-covered earth. She closed her eyes.

A profound, heavy silence fell over the immediate area around her. The air temperature dropped immediately.

Sarah opened her eyes. The swirling galaxies in her irises burst into a blinding silver light.

"Starlight Bind," Sarah whispered.

She swept the Scepter of Cosmic Alignment upward, aiming the glowing violet orb directly at the Bone Dragon.

[Effect: Creates strong cosmic energy chains that bind a target to the physical world. The power grows stronger with Intelligence.]

Four massive pillars of pure, blinding starlight tore through the clouds.

They shot down from the sky. They did not strike the dragon’s body; they struck the air around it.

The pillars of starlight materialized into thick, glowing silver chains. The chains whipped through the sky with impossible speed.

Two of the chains wrapped tightly around the Bone Dragon’s left wing, completely binding the jagged bone and spectral energy.

The other two chains coiled around its right wing.

The Bone Dragon shrieked in shock.

It beat its massive wings, trying to break free. The sheer physical force of the monster strained against the magic.

The silver chains groaned, glowing brighter under the immense tension, but they did not snap. Sarah’s cosmic magic, amplified by her mythic scepter, was absolute.

The dragon’s forward momentum died instantly. Its massive wings were pinned to its sides.

"It is held!" Sarah cried out. She dropped to one knee, panting heavily. Sweat beaded on her pale forehead.

Maintaining the tethers against a Level 48 boss drained her mana rapidly, even with the scepter’s reduction buff. "But I cannot hold it for long! The physical strain is too massive!"

"You only need to hold it for ten seconds," Lucifer said.

He didn’t look at her. He kept his eyes locked onto the immobilized dragon. The beast was thrashing wildly in the air, trying to snap its jaws at Elara, but it was completely stationary.

Elara recognized the shift in tactics. She pulled her spear from the dragon’s skull, yanked hard on the reins of her Nightmare Steed, and dove sharply away from the beast, clearing the airspace.

Lucifer raised his right hand. The Carnage Core on his hip, pulsing with the blood of Lord Vorian and ten thousand Undead Knights, flared a blinding, pure ruby red.

[Active State Ready: Absolute Carnage]

[Effect: Grants 100% True Damage to user and all allied forces within command range.]

Lucifer drew the red light out of the core and channeled it directly into his Warlord aura.

The invisible, crushing gravity of his Sovereign’s Weight expanded outward, but this time, it carried the blinding red hue of the cursed artifact.

The aura washed over the Aether-Steel Dragoons. It rolled over the five hundred Radiant Arch-Seraphs.

And it swept up the high cliffs, washing over the one hundred elite Cryo-Vanguard snipers positioned perfectly along the ridge.

"Vanguards," Lucifer’s voice echoed through their comms runes. It was a low, terrifying rumble of absolute authority.

High above the battlefield, the hundred elven snipers knelt in the gray ash. They wore their ice-crystal armor. They held their heavy, specialized sniper rifles.

When Lucifer’s red aura hit them, their pale blue eyes turned a violent, glowing crimson.

The icy blue mana coursing through their heavy rifles instantly shifted, burning with the dark, unblockable power of True Damage.

The Bone Dragon thrashed against the silver starlight chains, roaring in fury as it tried to break Sarah’s hold. Its massive, vulnerable ribcage was completely exposed.

Lucifer lowered his hand, pointing directly at the center of the monster’s chest.

"Eradicate it," Lucifer commanded.

The Scourgelands held its breath. The execution was ready.
