Moments later after that strange but efficient interaction, the three decided to make their way up to the very back row. The reason?

"Because all the cool people sit at the back, right?" Millis said with her arms folded, sitting beside Lillian, whose lips twitched at her reasoning.

Millis then continued, shooting Marionette a look, "But of course, everyone but red-eyes over here."

Lillian sighed, turned to her left and stared at Marionette, who had chosen to take the seat beside the window.

With her left cheek resting on her palm, she stared boredly out the window, spinning the pen in her right hand with impressive mastery.

She then turned back towards them once hearing her name.

"That’s because I’m far superior to whoever you consider cool..."

Millis’s right eye twitched before grinning mischievously, "So would you say that you’re above, Lilly, eh~?" she snickered.

"Whatcha think of that, Lillian?"

Lillian stared at her with a deadpan expression, "Are you really involving me?"

Millis stared at her with teary eyes as she placed her hands on Lillian’s shoulder, "Just lemme have this... I can’t think of a better come back..." she whispered.

Lillian rolled her eyes, "Well this one wasn’t very good. Obviously, she’s superior to m—"

Before Lillian could finish her sentence, Marionette chimed in, repeating the question.

"Am I superior to Lillian?" she tapped her chin with her finger, "Of course I am..." she said with a tone that could be read as, "Obviously I am."

Lillian rolled her eyes and turned to Millis, "See. I’m not sure why you think that would—"

Lillian was then interrupted once again by Marionette’s slow voice.

"But... she’s a different case."

"And how so?" Millis asked, tilting her head at her with a curious look.

"Instead of "She’s cool"... it’s more accurate to say that... "She’s mine"..." Marionette gave a small smirk.

Millis widened her eyes in bafflement, staring at Lillian, who hid her face behind her hands. Her face was red and so were her ears. Of course, that all disappeared once Marionette opened her mouth again.

"In the meaning of friends... she’s mine in the meaning of friends," she stated, turning her face back towards the window and staring outside.

Lillian stared at her silently before creakingly turning her head towards the front.

Millis patted her shoulder comfortingly, "Don’t worry, bud... you’ll get her one day."

"O-oh shush!"

Soon the classroom began to fill and flood with students that eventually took their places once throwing curious glances at the Second Prince and also to Marionette.

Most of them also briefly stared at Lillian, most likely for her achievement.

The once silent classroom now became a murmuring cacophony of voices as the students chattered, befriended, and shared what they had done over the week.

Lillian’s ears twitched as she heard Marionette click her tongue and mutter.

"Noisy..."

Lillian thought for a bit, ’Is it though? I don’t find it that noisy...’ she then froze, ’When did I get used to noise?’

She couldn’t linger long on her introverted and shut-in thoughts as the classical bell of the academy rang out like church bells.

Ding... Dong... Ding... Dong...

Lillian scanned over the rows of peoples’ heads before landing on the Second Prince to find him still sleeping, ignoring the girls beside him that tried to get his attention.

She smiled a bit before flicking her attention elsewhere—specifically at the digital clock on the side of the wall. It remained at 8:59 for a bit until...

[9:00]

The door slowly opened to reveal a young man possibly in his early twenties walking into the classroom with a dark robe. He held a cold smile that was without any warmth as his black ponytail trailed behind him.

His eyes were dark and seemed to swirl ominously as he stood at the front and gazed at the students in the classroom.

Lillian stared at the teacher—her eyes shining with excitement.

The young man then spoke in an upbeat tone that didn’t match his cold aura.

"Welcome, welcome! I’m glad to see sooo... many people in this class. It truly warms my heart knowing the future is in good hands..." he then took a bow, "I am Mirage... some of you may know of me, some of you may not and I don’t care... I am going to be your homeroom teacher and your teacher in every first period."

Lillian couldn’t help but put on a silly grin. She was finally progressing in the plot!

The man who stood at the very front is one of the more important figures in the academy due to his seamless ability to take on the Headmaster’s appearance.

And the need to do that? That was mainly because the real one was trapped inside a Gate far underneath the Main Hall.

From what she remembered, the Gate was too high of a rank for anyone in the area, so after a few days of constant battle, the Headmaster was able to slay the Gatebearer and trap himself inside the Gate.

All so the Gate wouldn’t summon any monsters into the realm and cause large casualties. If she remembered correctly, it was the same rank as the Gate plaguing the north region’s kingdom called, "Nolstra".

"Now then, class... we shall now be checking the grades of your affinity." Mirage’s voice resounded as he held a powder blue crystal ball. "I’m sure most of you know this is an Evaluation Sphere—"

BAM! BAM! BAM!

Mirage looked to the side, staring at the open door as a tied-up caveman was pushed into the classroom. He raised an eyebrow and stared at the two staff members who shrugged, "This guy is in Paragon, sir..."

Lillian squinted her eyes and recognised the rugged caveman to be Gram. Although he was dressed in his uniform, he was still rowdy and savage-looking, especially with his gag.

Mirage waved dismissively at Gram, "Just place him against the wall or something."

Once that was out of the way, Mirage continued where he left off.

"Where was I again before being rudely interrupted? Oh right... this here is an Evaluation Sphere. Some of you may have seen this when you first became an Aspirant, actually, let’s do a show of hands. Who here isn’t an Aspirant and is actually a Disciple?"

The seated students remained motionless for a while. Not one arm was raised until the Second Prince finally decided to wake up from his nap.

Mirage nodded, "Alright, we have one. Any more...?" he urged.

Soon enough another arm was raised—this time being Millis’s.

"Me me!" she waved energetically.

Mirage nodded—still holding his cold smile, "That’s two..."

Lillian turned to Marionette and saw her folding her arms with an uncertain look. She leaned in and whispered:

"I think we should put our hands up."

Marionette raised an eyebrow before whispering back.

"Any reason to?"

Lillian gave it a thought before nodding.

"We’ll be given extra treatment if we do."

Once she said that she raised her arm, garnering curious glances from the class.

Such gazes would’ve caused her to shrink back in the past but for some reason, she felt just a tad bit more confident in stretching her arm a bit higher.

Marionette stared at her before sighing and doing the same. It seemed she too was interested in the offer of extra treatment.

Mirage stared at the two, almost as though he wasn’t surprised and was actually expecting it.

"Ah... Number 1 and Number 2 in the exam. As expected to be already a Disciple. Or perhaps did that happen recently?" he tilted his head to the side almost in a playful manner.

He then heard loud grunting sounds from Gram, who tried to bite through the rope tied around his mouth. Mirage stepped closer and held a hand to his ear, almost as if he was gesturing for Gram to speak louder.

"I can’t hear you."

Which was what he was doing.

Moments later, Gram managed to snap the thick rope with his jaws and spoke in a crude manner.

"If ponytail-man is talking about the big floating swirly thing, then me have come through two and came back out of two!"

"Is that so? Then I guess that makes five. And I guess this causes me to have five talents in my class, huh?" Mirage muttered, walking back to his desk and holding up a clipboard.

"Now then, I shall be reading out names and expect you to come down and have yourselves evaluated. And if you’re too shy to do that or speak up then I will mark you as absent."

He then looked around before adding, "Any objections or can I now begin?"

None were called out and so began his callings.

He called name after name. Not in any order at all—pure random. This gave some of the students quite a bit of anxiety.

Each time a student placed their hand on the Evaluation Sphere, a number between 1 and 500 appeared. But the majority of the numbers displayed were between 1 and 200.

This continued until Lillian’s name was called up.
