Chapter 154: Tied Up

When Felix finally came to, it was already bright inside.

He woke up with a gasp, immediately sitting up. His first thought was naturally Vivi. His head snapped to the side, and he jumped out of bed, rushing to the crib...

And he exhaled with relief. Vivi was still there, tucked under a blanket, sleeping peacefully, with her thumb tucked in her mouth.

...If only the last night could have been nothing more but a nightmare.

But it wasn’t. Even if Felix wanted to try to convince himself of that, he couldn’t. Vivi might have been fine, and he was on the bed... The broken glass bottle had also been cleaned up... But the fated mate bond was pulling at him, letting him know that his fated mate was near. Very near. In the same house, in fact.

And that disgusting stench of anise pheromones was also there. Although Remi had covered it up with his own jasmine scent, a little bit of it still remained. Felix’s sensitive nose could pick up on it easily.

Remi stirred on the bed, lifting his head, and looking at Felix with his piercing blue eyes. He was in his fox form...

But now that Felix was awake, he nimbly jumped out of bed, transforming into his human form.

They stared at each other in silence for a moment. Then, they both asked at the same time,

"Are you alright?"

They paused, a light smile emerging on Remi’s lips.

"I’m fine," he said.

"But your head..."

"I’ve already treated it," Remi just dismissed it. "How about you?"

"I’m... also fine," Felix said. He didn’t sound too confident, though...

Because he wasn’t. He was still feeling weak from the flu and the heat. And now, after suffering from the shock at night, his emotions were in complete turmoil. On top of that, this pull of the bond...

But it wasn’t the time to be weak. Felix took a deep breath, and stepped out of the bedroom.

Jared was there. Still unconscious, tied to the chair. Must have been Remi’s doing.

"I didn’t know what you wanted to do with him," Remi explained. "So I just kept him like that... He’s under a spell, so he won’t wake up."

Felix stared at Jared in silence. It’s been well over a year since he had last seen this face... And honestly, he was hoping he would never see him again.

"Do you want me to get rid of him?" Remi suggested.

...Get rid of him? Felix bit his lip.

It’s not that it wasn’t a tempting offer... Although he had never killed any person, be it human or supernatural being, he wasn’t averse to it. He had taken the lives of animals before during hunts. And while killing might have been seen as something terrible in human society... Felix wasn’t human. Among werewolves, killing was far more normalized. It all depended on circumstances, of course, but deaths during territorial battles were normal, and so was killing spies from other packs...

From Felix’s point of view, Jared was a threat to him and his pup, so he would feel fully justified in killing the man.

But that was only his side. The rest of the werewolf society would condemn him if he were found out... Jared was his fated mate, the father of his pup, and the leader of the pack, while Felix was just an Omega who had fled from his pack. If he were able to keep it a secret, then fine, but...

If he weren’t, then that would be troublesome.

And things were not as simple as they might have looked at first glance... Jared might have come to Silverfall alone, but there was no way that the pack wasn’t aware of where he was. At least the Elders and his close aides had to know where he had gone and for what. He was the pack leader, after all, and the road to Silverfall was very long... It was highly unlikely, almost impossible, that he had just happened to be passing by and sensed Felix through the bond...

Which brought up the second problem: how did he find out? Did someone in Silverfall recognize Felix and contact the Moonhill Pack? But why now, after all this time... Not to mention, he had been in hiding recently, only going out for walks in the park, with his face hidden behind the scarf, and his identity concealed with a spell... It just didn’t make any sense.

His phone rang, but Felix ignored it. He just turned to Remi, "Can you wake him up? But keep him weak so that he can’t scream or free himself..."

"Oh, and," he added after a moment of thought, "Put him under a truth spell as well."

Remi nodded, and purple smoke filled the room, swirling around Jared. It didn’t take long before the Alpha’s lashes fluttered, and his eyes slowly opened...

Then, his head suddenly snapped up. His wide eyes were still a little bleak, but his consciousness returned to him, together with the memories of last night. He stared at Felix, his expression dark and threatening...

But deep in his eyes, there was a hint of wariness and fear. After all, no matter how arrogant he was, he must have realized the situation he were in. Somehow, Felix (or, well, his fox) had used some drug that made him pass out. And now, he was all tied up, and devoid of strength... Even without trying, he could tell that he was in a precarious situation.

Of course, he wouldn’t let it show. He was an Alpha, after all. And on top of that, a leader of a medium-sized pack. He had a lot of pride. Even if he was in danger, he would act as if he was still in control. It would take more to make him beg for his life... He just observed Felix and the man next to him carefully.

"What do you think you’re doing?" he asked, trying to sound intimidating. Which didn’t work, because his voice was too weak, but it didn’t deter him. "Do you think you can get away with harming the leader of your pack?"

Felix just stared at him in silence. The phone rang again somewhere in the bedroom, but it got ignored once again.

"If you release me now, I can pretend that..." Jared started once again, undoubtedly planning to utter some threats, but Felix interrupted him.

"What are you doing here?" he asked impatiently. "Why did you come to Silverfall?"

It was a stupid question, of course, but Felix just asked whatever came to his mind first. His head was spinning, and he couldn’t think clear, but he had to start the interrogation somehow.

And the answer was just as expected. "I came to bring you back."

"How did you know I’m here?" Felix asked next.

Jared responded immediately, "We received a tip yesterday that you live in Silverfall."

And then he paused, stunned, blinking stupidly. As if he couldn’t believe what had just come out of his mouth. Although it wasn’t any big secret he had revealed - Felix could guess that much himself - he most likely wasn’t planning to answer Felix’s questions so readily...

His eyes widened, the fear in his eyes slowly intensifying. Not only was he weak, but the words were now spilling out of his mouth on their own... And then that purple smoke... Just what was going on here?

Whether he was surprised or not, he didn’t get much time to dwell on it, as Felix posed another question. "Who did you receive the tip from?"

"It was anonymous."

"Anonymous?"

"Yes."

Felix bit his lip. Since Jared had said it under the spell, then that must be so... But it made things more complicated for him.

It simply made no sense. Who would report his whereabouts anonymously? Whoever discovered it, they would be rewarded. Even if they didn’t care for a reward, just having the Moonhill Pack owe them a favor would also be great. Even if they were doing well for themselves, having someone in your debt would always be nice, rather than getting nothing out of it, no? And it couldn’t really be out of personal grudge... Aside from the Moonhill Pack, Felix didn’t really have any enemies. The Misty Claw Pack, maybe, but even if they had spies in Silverfall and had noticed him already, it still didn’t make sense why they would send an anonymous tip...

And besides,

"So you received this tip yesterday," he turned back to Jared. "And you just came straight to Silverfall?"

"Yes," the Alpha nodded his head. He was no longer able to hide his fear, as he felt his body betraying him.

But Felix didn’t care for how frightened Jared was. Under normal circumstances, perhaps he would find some schadenfreude in it, but now, he had bigger concerns.

"You didn’t even send guards to investigate first?" he couldn’t help but ask.

And Jared unwillingly explained, "It was far more efficient for me to come, since I can find you through the bond. As for the guards, if they tried to investigate, there was a risk they might be noticed by you first... I was worried you might run away again."

That made sense, but...

"So you came all this way on an anonymous tip? What if that was a trap to lure you out of the pack?"

Jared shook his head in response. "We did consider it, but... There was a photo attached... So we knew that the information was true."

Felix’s eyes widened.
