I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 25: You’ve Made a Mistake
Chapter 25: You’ve Made a Mistake
Heavy, uncomfortable silence hung in the air, so overwhelming that it seemed to take over the whole area, muting every sound from reaching the pair on the porch. The tension between them was almost palpable, as they stood so close, Kade’s hand still resting on Felix’s waist, as the Omega words rang in his ears.
The shock and disbelief on the Alpha’s face made Felix’s wolf pace around restlessly, his instincts pushing him to take his words back, to reassure the man that their fated bond was real...
But he refused to do so.
"Now, if you’ll excuse me," he tried to push Kade away, and separate himself, but that only made Kade’s grip on him tighten. Even though the man still remained silent, struggling to process the new information.
"Don’t you get it?" Felix snapped. "You’ve made a mistake! I don’t know what caused you to feel that way, but I’ve been telling you all this time that I’m not-"
"No," Kade muttered, his words first almost inaudible, but soon growing more and more confident. "There can’t be any mistake. There is a fated bond between us."
Felix let out a sigh. Yes, there was a bond. But it was just a feeling the two of them shared. It couldn’t be proved in any way, or sensed by anyone else. And while he felt bad for messing with Kade’s head...
"How can possibly be a fated bond between us, when Moon Goddess has already bonded me with Jared Thorne?" he lifted his brows.
"Wasn’t the bond broken? You’re here, alone, so surely, it must have?"
"The bond can only be broken by a formal rejection, accepted by both sides, or the death of one of the mates. And since neither of these happened..." Felix shrugged his shoulders. "Unfortunately, I’m still bonded to Jared. Investigate the Moonhill Pack, if you don’t believe me."
Kade remained silent for a while, just staring into Felix’s golden eyes. It didn’t seem like the Omega was lying...
"Then what? Are you going to return to your pack?" he finally asked.
Felix’s fingers twitched. Naturally, he hated the idea... He went through so much, just to go back? And then what, spend the rest of his life as Jared’s mate? He DREADED the idea. It made his stomach churn, and all of his insides twist in disgust. He’d rather die...
Except, it wasn’t just about him. He had a pup growing inside of him to worry about. If he were to pick among his two ’fated mates’, then Kade, as annoying as he was, was still a much better choice...
But he was also the more dangerous one. Because of what he might do if he found out about Felix’s pregnancy. So, if Felix could make him believe they weren’t fated mates, while it might lead to Felix being sent back to the Moonhill Pack... At least his pup would be safe.
He pressed his lips, trying to remain calm, as he met Kade’s gaze head on.
"If that’s what I need to do..." he said slowly, trying to hide the shaking of his voice.
Kade’s grip on Felix loosened... Only to tighten once again a second later, pulling Omega into a close embrace. "But you don’t want to return."
"I... would rather not," Felix admitted. "I quite like my life here. Alone."
"Good. Because I don’t want my mate to be with someone else..."
Felix’s shoulders dropped helplessly at Kade’s words. "Were you even listening? I’ve just told you that I can’t possibly be your mate!" he exclaimed, exasperated. Using his whole strength, he pushed his hands against Kade’s muscular chest, hesitating only for a brief moment as his body all seemed to melt at the touch, and finally freed himself from the Alpha, who tried to nuzzle his hair.
"I don’t know where you got this ridiculous idea from, but I’ve been telling you all this time you got it all wrong!" he gasped, quickly opening the door, and shutting himself in. Once inside, he leaned against the door, and slowly slid down onto the floor.
Kade didn’t try to barge in. He just stood there, on the porch, out in the cold, for what felt like hours. Until finally, he muttered, "I know what I’m feeling," and slowly walked away.
Only then was Felix able to breathe out with relief. His wolf was whining terribly, and for once, Felix didn’t scoff at him for that. He himself was feeling bad about what he was doing. For most, finding their fated mate was an exciting moment, and therefore Kade’s pursuit wasn’t anything particularly baffling. It was only natural he was drawn to Felix and wanted to get close... Not to mention, unless their bond was broken first, Kade wouldn’t be able to bond with anyone else, fated or chosen.
But Felix had to think about his safety first and foremost. As for Kade... Maybe, if he were lucky, Moon Goddess would also bond him with another mate? As she did with Felix.
The floor was cold, and there was a draft blowing from underneath the door, sending shivers down Felix’s spine despite him wearing three layers of clothes. He slowly dragged himself off the floor...
And his golden eyes met right with the fox’s blue pair. Remi was lying on the bed, watching him.
"Have you heard everything?" Felix muttered, dusting off his butt. "See, that’s how it is to be a wolf. You have to deal with fated mates, and all that crap..."
He glanced at the unfinished hat he had been working on before Kade stopped by. It was only afternoon, so he should return to knitting - his future earnings depended on it! - but... After the incident with the rogue, and then the conversation with Kade, he had lost all of his strength. Mentally exhausted, he threw himself on the bed, cuddling the fox as he closed his eyes to take a little nap. While he no longer needed the scent to rub onto him, since Kade already knew he wasn’t a hybrid, Remi was so warm and soft, and smelled so good, that hugging it was reassuring.
"I wish they would all just leave me alone," he muttered, drifting off to sleep. "I don’t want to be a Luna, or have any fated mates or anything... Really... I would rather... just be a rogue..."
