Chapter 97: Follow the Fox freёnovelkiss-com

Felix ignored Remi. He heard the fox come into the room, but he didn’t look back. He felt him nudge his legs with his nose, but he still refused to acknowledge the fox, spinning the crib mobile to entertain Vivi. Even when Remi bit onto the leg of his joggers and tugged so hard that his pants would have been pulled down if Felix hadn’t grabbed them by the waistline just in time, he still stubbornly pretended not to notice the furry menace.

Just how shameless was that fox going to get? To come bother Felix right after showing him such an inappropriate ’vision of the future’!

But Remi was nothing if not stubborn, and eventually, he managed to win Felix’s attention. By climbing on top of the Omega as he lay down on the bed to go to sleep. Exasperated, Felix was about to chase him away with a solid dose of tickling... When he noticed the letter the fox held.

It was, naturally, a message from the witch.

[Do you know where to find your target?]

"Target?" Felix muttered. "That werewolf Beta, you mean?"

To which, Remi nodded his head.

"...Not yet."

It was unlikely the Beta was stupid enough to get caught for the third time in the same place... He probably wasn’t going to show up at the town square anytime soon. And besides, Felix couldn’t exactly try to interrogate the Beta in such a public place. Not because he would get in trouble - the police wouldn’t intervene, once they found out they were both werewolves - but it simply would attract too much attention. And Felix needed to stay as low-key as possible. Thus, he had to go on a little scouting mission, and follow the scent...

As Felix was planning his search for the Beta, Remi suddenly ran off somewhere. Only to return a few minutes later with yet another message.

[If you don’t know where to find him, describe him to me. Perhaps I might be able to help.]

Right, the witch was probably familiar with most, if not all, supernatural beings in town. If he were to give Felix directions, that would spare him a lot of effort!

"He’s rather tall, around 6’1, I think, and has a muscular build," he said, rubbing Remi’s head, completely forgetting he was supposed to be angry at the fox. "Brown hair, brown eyes, a short beard, tanned skin. Old scars on his forearms, and his right ear is missing a chunk."

That should be enough for the description. Especially with the ear, which was quite a distinguishing feature - you didn’t see all that many people with their ears so ragged, not even among rogue werewolves!

But Remi just tilted his head, remaining on Felix’s lap.

"What, do you need me to write it down?"Felix couldn’t help but roll his eyes. "I know you can deliver the message!"

Yes, Remi was doing him a favor, so if that was ABSOLUTELY necessary, Felix would write him back as he wanted, but he just found it quite stupid! It’s not like the fox actually had to run back and forth, it was all caused by his insistence to remain in the fox form. He could have easily just transformed, and had a normal chat with Felix instead of exchanging messages... After putting some clothes on, of course!

Remi stayed on Felix’s lap for a bit longer, but eventually, he was the one to concede. He jumped from the bed, and walked away, soon returning with another message.

[I know who it is. Follow your fox when the time is right.

And make sure to cuddle him well!]

Felix eyed Remi, who was just sitting on the bed next to him, his piercing blue eyes gazing at the Omega innocently. As if he hasn’t just asked for cuddles while pretending to be someone else.

But cuddles were fine. Felix was already used to cuddling with Remi in bed (only while wearing clothes, though!), so he could do that much. Plus he couldn’t exactly say he didn’t enjoy it, falling asleep while hugging the soft, warm fox, surrounded by jasmine scent...

Two days later in the evening, Remi came to him with another message.

[It’s time. Follow the fox. You can leave your daughter at the mermaid’s place.]

"At Brielle? Did she agree?" Felix asked, to which Remi nodded his head. Still, Felix pulled out his phone, and quickly texted the woman, remembering what she had said about the last time the witch had asked her for a ’favor’. While he needed her help, and she had already taken care of Vivi a few times when Felix was on his ’stakeouts’, he didn’t want to cause her any trouble. She might have had other plans already, after all.

Luckily, she soon responded, stating that it was fine, as she was just relaxing alone at home. With this problem solved, Felix immediately put Vivi in the pram, and walked through the town at a brisk pace, heading toward the center. He dropped the pup off at Brielle’s, then put his hood on - the evening was rather chilly, so he didn’t look out of place, wearing a thin, light jacket - and followed the fox.

They went all the way to the outskirts, to one of the cheapest, shaggiest residential areas. About as shaggy as Felix’s house had been, and to a large degree still was, at least when looking from the outside. At the end of the street, there was a small house. Remi led Felix there, stopping at the side that was not visible when approaching from the street.

"Am I supposed to wait here?" Felix whispered. There was indeed a trace of a familiar scent hanging in the air as he sniffed, suggesting this was where the Beta lived, even though he wasn’t at home at the moment.

Remi confirmed it with a nod, after which he clung to the wall, trying to tell Felix to do the same. Their scent was concealed by a spell, but it would be all for naught if the Beta spotted them. Of course, the witch was going to cast a spell so that he wouldn’t be able to run away... But it was supposed to be done in a more concealed place, not in the middle of the street. It would be troublesome if any of the neighbors were to notice...

After all, that’s what were the Beta lived. What if he were friends with his neighbors, and they would come to his aid? Felix didn’t want this whole thing to become any bigger issue than it already was...
