Chapter 123: PROVOCATION

PREMIUM RED GINSENG.

Vitamins (for old people).

Supplements for (aging) Alphas.

Fruit basket.

Those were the things that Wonyoung brought for Lee Heeju.

After all, he couldn’t visit a sick person empty-handed.

Yes, Lee Heeju is apparently sick. That’s why Dujun Hyung wanted to visit him.

Yin Dujun, on the other hand, brought a fancy charcuterie gift box with a bottle of expensive wine.

Those are obviously more expensive than the ones I prepared.

"Should I have bought wild ginseng?"

Wonyoung only realized that he asked that out loud when Yun Dujun answered.

"Your gifts are fine," Yun Dujun assured him. "Even if you visit empty-handed, it should have still been fine since I already prepared a gift for Lee Heeju."

Right.

Plus, wild ginsengs are rare and cost a fortune.

And Wonyoung was confident in his gifts anyway.

"I’m sure Ahjussi will appreciate my gifts since they will help him rejuvenate."

"Wonyoung-ah, Lee Heeju isn’t that old— and we’re the same age."

"Yes, you’re also old, Hyung. That’s why I prepared the same set of gifts for you as well. I asked Aunt Rosa to bring them to your room. People in their 30s should be extra mindful of their health."

Yun Dujun chuckled. "I’m going to tease you a lot once you reach your 30s."

Wonyoung just shrugged.

I’m not sure if we’re still together by then, Hyung.

***

WONYOUNG, despite having been to his parents-in-law’s very fancy mansion, was still impressed by Lee Heeju’s residence.

Yeah, the chaebol lived in a very posh-looking mansion.

It’s a glasshouse, and it’s very pretty!

"Wonyoung-ssi, judging by your gifts, I think you’ve forgotten how old I am."

Wonyoung was forced to look at Lee Heeju then.

Aigoo.

He looks a little sick, but he still looks like the young master that he is— stylish, and very expensive-looking.

"Ahjussi, men in their 30s like you should be extra mindful of your health."

How many times do I have to say this line?

"You’re treating me like an old man when I’m the same age as Dujunnie."

’Dujunnie,’ my ass.

Wonyoung flashed Lee Heeju a business smile. "Don’t worry, Ahjussi. I gave the same set of gifts to Dujunnie Hyung. After all, Hyung is also old like you."

Lee Heeju just blinked slowly, and then he sighed while shaking his head. "Anyway, thank you for the gifts. You didn’t have to, but I appreciate it."

"You’re welcome, Ahjussi."

"Let’s have lunch first," Lee Heeju said. "I hope you don’t mind, but I have another guest for today. He insisted on joining us, and I don’t have the power to stop him."

Yun Dujun frowned. "Is it Daepyonim?"

Oh.

Spencer Choi?

Our boss.

"Yes, Spencer Hyung said he wanted to talk to you and Wonyoung-ssi," Lee Heeju said, looking back and forth between Wonyoung and Yun Dujun. "He didn’t tell me why, though."

Wonyoung wondered why their CEO wanted to talk to them.

Does the company encounter a problem?

***

"SO, an infamous news site is threatening to release your photo if we don’t pay them 300 million won."

Wonyoung almost choked on the steak that he was eating because of Spencer Choi’s casual revelation.

Right now, he was having lunch with Yun Dujun, Lee Heeju, and the CEO in the mansion’s fancy dining hall. Of course, the dishes that were prepared for them were just as impressive. It looked like a feast, even though only the three of them were eating.

"What photo?" Yun Dujun asked calmly. "And what are they planning to do with that?"

Spencer Choi took out his phone and showed them the photo that he was talking about.

Oh.

It was a photo of Yun Dujun carrying Wonyoung after he fainted during the photoshoot.

"They also sent a video."

After saying that, Lee Heeju played a video for them.

"Bae Wonyoung!"

Hmm?

Wonyoung was surprised when he heard Yun Dujun in the video calling his name in a very worried voice.

And it wasn’t just the Alpha’s voice— the look on his face also showed how worried he was for him. It was one of the rare times that Yun Dujun showed his emotions that strongly, as if he had forgotten where he was.

The Alpha didn’t care about the eyes watching them.

Yun Dujun picked up Wonyoung with ease, calling his name desperately again and again.

Ah, Hyung is truly worried about me...

"The reporter who sent the photo and the video also sent the article that he wrote. As expected, it’s full of bullshit," Spencer Choi said after the video ended. "To summarize, the reporter created a narrative where Actor Yun Dujun used his influence to help his lover, rookie actor Bae Wonyoung, sign with Hanbyeol Entertainment. That trashy reporter also made it sound like Wonyoung-ssi only got his roles because of Yun Dujun. It seems like they already made their own investigation and found out that Wonyoung-ssi will be appearing in a music video, and that he will also be starring in Director Kang Dusik’s new drama as the main role."

Wonyoung frowned, offended that his hard work was discredited.

I mean, I can’t deny that Daepyonim probably only offered me a contract because of Dujun Hyung. But I worked hard for the roles I bagged.

Wait...

"Does it mean someone in the photoshoot took those pictures and video?"

Wonyoung only realized that he said that out loud when Yun Dujun answered.

"That seems to be the case. A staff member probably took them, then sold them to the reporter," Yun Dujun explained casually. "It’s not the first time that something like this happened."

"The goal is obviously to tarnish your reputation, Dujun-ah," Spencer Choi said teasingly. "You never had a dating scandal before because you made sure to keep a distance with your fellow actors. This was the first time you’ve been physically close to an actor outside filming, so they’re milking the hell out of it. Plus, this is the reporter who often gets humiliated every time you directly deny his false claims. So, he’s probably hoping to taint your image by making it look like you’re abusing your authority in favor of your lover as a revenge."

Ah, so Wonyoung was just collateral damage.

Well, that made sense.

I’m just a rookie, so why would a reporter put effort into destroying my name when I’m still a nobody?

It just sucked to be involved, of course.

"What should we do, Dujun-ah? Wonyoung-ssi?" Spencer Choi asked. "Should we just pay the reporter hush-hush money?"

"Paying them doesn’t change the fact that they still have dirt on Yun Dujun. This is the first time Dujunnie is caught being that close to a fellow actor, so I’m sure this will be a huge scandal," Lee Heeju said. "Dujunnie, do you want me to get rid of that reporter and the news site itself?"

Wonyoung flinched.

That’s a chaebol for you.

And the scarier part?

Lee Heeju had the power to do it.

After all, chaebols run this country.

"Wonyoung-ah, what do you want to do?" Yun Dujun asked Wonyoung. "You can decide how we’ll deal with it."

Wonyoung was glad that Yun Dujun asked for his opinion. "How do you usually deal with false articles like this, Hyung?"

"I just let them release the article they write, then call them out on their bullshit later."

Aigoo.

That’s the power of an A-list celebrity with a clean image.

"I don’t have that kind of luxury since I’m only a rookie. Plus, I don’t want people to know me through a scandal," Wonyoung said. "Hyung, please take care of it in a way that my name won’t be dragged."

"Alright, leave it to me," Yun Dujun said, and then he looked at Spencer Choi. "Let’s talk about it later, Hyung."

Spencer Choi chuckled. "Dujun-ah, you only call me ’hyung’ when you have a big favor to ask."

Yun Dujun neither confirmed nor denied it.

"Dujun Hyung and Daepyonim can talk after we eat," Wonyoung said, and then he pointed his hands at Lee Heeju politely. "I want to talk to Ahjussi in private anyway."

***

AFTER lunch, Wonyoung followed Lee Heeju to a fancy parlor room.

The household staff members brought coffee and sweet snacks for them.

It’s still awkward, though.

"You wanted to talk to me, Wonyoung-ssi?"

"Yes, Ahjussi," Wonyoung said, nodding. "I want to apologize to you for the way I behaved the last time we met."

"Oh, at the amusement park?"

Wonyoung nodded politely, and then he bowed his head. "I’m sorry for being rude back then."

"Ah, it’s alright. I didn’t think you were being rude anyway."

"Thank you for thinking that of me, Ahjussi."

"I think calling me ’ahjussi’ is ruder than the way you behaved that night."

"Ahjussi, do you know that Dujun Hyung is going to audition for Director Bang’s new drama?" Wonyoung asked, pretending to be smug about the information he was sharing. And, yes, he purposely ignored Lee Heeju’s subtle way of asking him to stop calling him ’ahjussi.’ "And you know what’s cute about it? I heard Dujun Hyung is going to play the role of a himbo, who’s a fool for his husband and son. Can you imagine Dujun Hyung acting like that?"

Lee Heeju raised a brow, and then he tilted his head as if he were amused. "I can easily imagine it, especially every time I see Dujunnie acting like a fool around you, Wonyoung-ssi."

Oho?

Wonyoung was surprised by Lee Heeju’s response.

It was An Baekya who wrote the ’script.’ But how did the child know that Lee Heeju would immediately take his mask away if I mentioned the audition?

"Wonyoung-ssi, can you tell when Dujunnie is acting and when he’s not?"

Oho?

An Baekya’s plan is working really well?

That easily?

Wonyoung was about to answer Lee Heeju’s question in order to gather more information, but he caught a whiff of strong and heavy pheromones— causing him to scrunch his nose.

It was Lee Heeju’s pheromones, but...

Why are this ahjussi’s pheromones making me feel dizzy?
