Chapter 162: A One-Sided War

Adam’s voice still ringing with his audacious declaration of war echoed in the stunned silence of the cafeteria.

"And it doesn’t matter," he continued his gaze sweeping over the leadership of the Red Team who were still seated at their table

"if the entire Academy stands against me. Or even if the Emperor himself stands in my way. I will not be stopped from protecting my own."

The moment the last word left his lips he moved.

He spun with a speed that was nothing short of supernatural. In a single fluid motion he lashed out with a vicious kick.

It was aimed directly at Samba’s face. The kick was so fast so powerful that the very air seemed to tear around it with a soft ripping sound.

Somya the astute and powerful magician of the Red Team had anticipated trouble.

The moment "Eric" had entered the cafeteria she had discreetly cast a powerful defensive barrier around their table.

It was a shimmering almost invisible shield of magical energy. It was a second-class magical barrier a high-level defensive spell. It was capable of withstanding immense force.

But it was not enough. Not against this.

The moment Adam’s kick made contact with the magical barrier the shield simply shattered.

It didn’t just crack it exploded into a shower of glittering harmless light.

It offered no resistance whatsoever. Adam’s kick continued on its path unimpeded. It connected squarely with Samba’s face.

The impact was catastrophic. Samba was launched from his seat as if he had been fired from a cannon. He flew across the cafeteria a blur of red and gray clothing.

He slammed into the distant wall with a sickening crunch.

The sound echoed in the now silent hall.

He was completely unconscious before he even hit the ground.

The sheer concussive force of the blow had overwhelmed his senses instantly. The extent of his injuries was unknown. But from the brutal nature of the impact it was clear they were very severe.

Adam brought his leg down his foot landing softly on the floor. After taking out Samba he knew there was no turning back.

He had to destroy the entire Red Team right here right now. He had to make an example of them.

He had to send a clear unequivocal message to the entire Academy. Do not touch his group. Do not speak ill of his group. Or you will face the consequences.

The other members of the Red Team the ones seated at the leadership table barely had time to react. Adam’s attack had been so unbelievably fast that their eyes were still fixed on the spot where he had been standing a moment ago.

It was only when they saw the puff of dust from the far wall and heard the sickening thud of the impact that their gazes snapped across the cafeteria.

They saw the crumpled unconscious form of Samba. His condition looked... dire.

Cian shot to his feet his chair scraping loudly against the stone floor. "You insect!" he roared his face a mask of pure unadulterated rage. "How dare you do this!"

Somya was also staring in disbelief not just at Samba but at the spot where her powerful second-class magical barrier had been just a moment ago.

It had been shattered instantly with no effort. She could feel the immense raw power that had been contained within Adam’s single kick.

It was a level of power she had never in all her years at the Academy witnessed firsthand from a student.

Simon’s gaze was also fixed on Samba’s unmoving form.

A wave of pure fury washed over him. He too shot to his feet. He pointed a trembling finger at Adam.

"Finish him!" he screamed at the other members of the Red Team who were scattered around the cafeteria. "Kill him!"

At Simon’s command the entire Red Team erupted into a frenzy of motion. The two members who had been standing just behind Adam the ones who had formed the initial human barrier were the first to react.

They charged forward their movements swift and practiced.

As they ran swords materialized in their hands seemingly from thin air.

A shimmering blue aura of magical energy enveloped their blades. They reached Adam’s back. And in a coordinated attack they swung their swords in a vicious decapitating arc aimed directly at his neck.

But Adam who still had his back to them spun around. He moved with a speed that made their own movements seem sluggish and clumsy.

He was far faster than both of them. He clenched his hands into tight fists.

And then at a speed that was faster than light before their swords could even come close to his neck his own fists connected with their faces.

The impact was so fast so powerful that the two students had no idea what had even hit them.

They were launched backward. They flew over the heads of their comrades.

And they crashed onto a nearby table where other students had been eating. They scattered food and drink everywhere. They too were completely unconscious.

Four more Red Team members these ones clearly magicians quickly surrounded Adam. They extended their hands in unison. "Bind him!" they chanted the words of a spell.

Instantly the stone floor around Adam erupted. Thick glowing red ropes of pure magical energy shot out from the ground.

They wrapped themselves around Adam’s arms legs and torso. They constricted him attempting to immobilize him to hold him in place.

Adam simply looked at them his expression one of utter boredom.

"Reverse," he said his voice a low quiet command.

The moment the word was spoken the magical ropes that had been binding him vanished. And in the same instant identical red energy ropes materialized around the four magicians who had just cast the spell.

They were completely taken aback their eyes wide with shock. But then something unexpected happened.

The ropes didn’t just bind them. They began to tighten with an immense crushing force.

The magicians were pulled off their feet. Their bodies were slammed to the ground as if they were being dragged down into the very stone of the floor.

They began to sink into the floor.

The magical ropes were pulling them into the ground as if it were quicksand. They screamed a mixture of terror and pain as they were slowly inexorably being buried alive by their own spell.

Somya seeing her comrades in such a dire situation acted instantly. She thrust her hands forward.

"Air Strike!" she cried.

Multiple invisible slashes of compressed air shot from her hands.

They hurtled towards the four trapped magicians.

They struck the red energy ropes. Somya expected them to neutralize the binding spell. But she was shocked to see that her powerful attack had no effect at all.

The ropes remained. They were still pulling her comrades into the unforgiving stone floor.

Simon seeing that Somya’s magic was ineffective summoned his own weapon. A sword materialized in his hand.

Its hilt was a deep blood-red. And its blade was a stark obsidian black. A red pulsating energy coursed along its length.

It was a powerful magical sword. He released his own power. A wave of palpable hostile energy flooded the cafeteria.

"You dare!" he roared his voice filled with a furious rage.

Ten more Red Team members these ones clearly martial artists now surrounded Adam.

Their movements were synchronized their intent clear. They were going to overwhelm him with a coordinated multi-pronged attack.

They would keep him busy while Simon prepared his own more powerful strike.

But there was no hesitation on Adam’s face. There was no fear. He looked at the ten martial artists surrounding him as if they were nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

He seemed completely at ease as if he found himself in such situations every single day.

The ten Red Team members advanced. Their movements were a blur of practiced synchronized motion.

They were experts in coordinated attacks a testament to their years of training together.

One by one they began to launch their assault on Adam. It was a flurry of fists and feet aimed at overwhelming him from all sides.

They were attacking him all at once.
