Chapter 157: [Chapter - 157]

"I, Baron Volkov Boarpaw, humbly request that all charges against the Blackfang bandits be dropped and they get recognised as a newly formed Mercenary group, the Blackfang Mercenaries."

"And.."

"I would also like to recommend Leo Dragomir be appointed as the new..."

Leo paused with the smile on his face getting wider.

"Lord of Auravale."

Volkov’s hand froze when Leo’s words fell in his ears. As Leo’s words registered in his head, he realized what he was signing.

He was practically handing over the town to Leo, legalizing the coup.

This boy whom he thought of as an easy target to deal with was so far ahead than him. How long was he planning to take over the town?

He even managed to have High Priest of the Temple of Light do his bidding? How?

It was only because of Remus that Volkov decided to speed up his plan to get rid of Caelum and rush to Auravale.

Volkov hesitated as his hand hovered over the paper.

Leo used his newly added skill on Volkov.

[Eyes of the Hoarder]

[Scared]

[Under Duress]

Texts began to hover over Volkov’s head.

SLAM!

Leo grabbed Volkov’s hand and smashed it onto the table. The quill snapped between his fingers

"Ahhh!"

Volkov screamed.

"You are not thinking of writing a secret code for help, are you?" Leo narrowed his eyes.

"Don’t even think about it," Leo hissed, his eyes burning with anger.

"Write it exactly as I said. No secret codes. No Morse code. Or I let Belladonna peel your fingers like bananas."

"I am sorry! I will write it... I will write," Volkov sobbed. He grabbed a fresh quill, and continued scribbling on the parchment without stopping this time.

"Now be a good boy and seal it," Leo ordered.

Volkov fumbled for his signet ring that Ryana has been placed in front of him. He pressed it into the hot wax. The crest of the Baron, a boar’s head was stamped onto the parchment.

And with that, it was done without any hitch. The baron had legally nominated Leo to have a piece of land in this new world to govern.

But it was not handed down to him in a silver platter, Leo has worked for every inch of it, and he was not going to stop here.

Leo snatched the letter up, blowing on the wax to cool it.

He then turned to the shivering survivors in the room, almost all of Volkov’s men . He pointed at a young soldier who was hiding behind one of the Captains near the fireplace.

"You," Leo said, "Stand up."

The knight scrambled to his feet, terrified. "Y... Yes, My Lord?"

"Awww... Such a cutie... I already like you," Leo grinned, "But I am not a lord yet."

"But it’s all in your hands now."

"You are going to the Capital," Leo said, handing him the letter, "You are going to deliver this directly to the Royal Clerk. Do not stop. Do not sleep. Do not talk to anyone."

Leo then turned to look towards the door.

"Malcom! You there?" Leo called out.

And just as he did, the former steward walked out from behind Ryana and walked in front of Leo and stood in front of him with his hand low, "You called for me, master?"

"I want you to go with this young man," Leo ordered, "He might not be very familiar with the route.":

"Make sure the letter reaches the Capital, and our friend here doesn’t take any detours."

He then leaned in to whisper.

"If he tries to try something cheeky... You know what to do." Leo said, running his finger along his throat.

The young soldier might not have been able to hear Leo, but he saw the gesture and his skin crawled with terror.

Malcom nodded grimly. He grabbed the young knight by the arm and dragged him towards the door.

"Lets get going dear," Malcom spoke with a smile and the two of them quickly walked out of the room.

Leo watched them leave, and then turned back to his women. The room was still a mess of blood and bodies.

"Sera!" Leo said, his voice calm, "We need to start preparing. the good baron here has put a whole lot of burden on your small soldiers."

"It is time to start generating revenue. All these poor nobles must be wanting to contribute in the growth story of Auravale."

"Alas! they are dead. But their last wishes need to be fulfilled," Leo shook his head in sorrow that made the men in the room twitch.

’What a bastard!’ They thought.

"While you deliver their bodies..." Leo ordered, "Why don’t you have their families respect their dead’s wishes."

"Understood," Seraphine said, her smile reaching her ears.

"Belladonna," Leo turned his attention to the bandit Queen, "Have some of your men stand guard outside the dear baron’s mansion? We don’t want any accident to happen here. The baron has done so much for us. He shouldn’t feel unwelcomed."

"As you say, master!" Bella grinned. She loved every bit of what his man was doing here.

"We need to secure the town as well. Our people might be a bit shaken after the monster raid. Have your men take the streets, let them know the hero is there to protect them. He has not forgotten about them like their incompetent lord."

"Right away!" Bella nodded.

"And while you are at it. Plant this in the town square."

Leo tossed her the Totem of Terror. It was a small, charcoal grey gargoyle statue of a demon head made of bones that felt cold to the touch.

"What is this?" Belladonna asked, catching it.

"You know. This and that... Let us just call it the exploits of the monster raid," Leo grinned, "I don’t think I can put some random head on a pike in the town square," Leo said, looking at Volkov through the corner of his eyes that made the baron try and hide behind the table.

"Whatever you say," Bella did not question anymore, "You are the boss."

"And Ryana..." Leo turned to the Merchant Queen. She flinched instinctively as his gaze landed on her.

"Can you speed up the business," Leo said, as he walked towards her.

"I just spent 7000 Gold Coins"

He stopped in front of her, his gaze trailing down from her face slowly towards her lip.

"So I am kind of broke."

He grinned.
