Chapter 24: Mana Field

After they returned to the village, Lunaris assigned Luna to go with a group of villagers to hunt.

Luna was a little too dependent on him and didn’t talk with the others much. He decided to give her this chance to socialize.

He also ordered Roselle to guard them.

With that, he had the church all to himself.

Now I can get to work.

He looked at his abilities.

After performing a full analysis of Luna, he realized something. Having read just about everything that made up her, he could equally recreate that - under the right conditions.

But he wasn’t focusing on recreating her.

Rather, he focused on her skills. These didn’t need any special conditions. It was like a compiled binary he just needed to load.

He began accessing the skills he had analyzed from her and loading them onto himself.

Skill Merge: Heir of the Eternal Moon → Infinite Adaptation

Your intrinsic skill has absorbed the legacy of the moon. Growth potential dramatically increased.

Those were quite the advancements.

But that wasn’t quite all.

His form began to shift.

It blobbed, twisted, and reshaped.

Then he transformed.

After analyzing Luna’s form, he had also acquired a human form.

Well, more like a beastman form.

...

Lunaris concentrated his mana, shaping it into a flat, reflective surface that floated before him.

He stared at his reflection.

Hmm... it looks just like Luna.

Though his form seemed a little younger. He was slightly shorter than her.

Aren’t I supposed to be the parent?

He sighed.

Well, Luna’s growth rate was insanely overpowered. Besides, this isn’t exactly fixed either.

His form suddenly grew, stretching upward until he reached the same height as Luna. Then he dismissed the change and sized back down.

While he could manipulate the form through Shapeshifting, there seemed to be restrictions.

When he shapeshifted, he had a base form - the foundation upon which the transformation was created. Any subsequent modification to this base came with mana costs. And while he did have plenty of mana, he was already spending much of it on other things.

Like thinking.

It was best he didn’t waste it.

Then he suddenly remembered something.

No way, right? I don’t feel it.

He looked down slowly.

Then he sighed.

Well... this was to be expected. He was a slime after all.

Now that he thought about it, how did slimes even reproduce?

He quickly shook his head, dismissing the thoughts.

His eyes caught his appearance in the mirror again, and he waved his hand to dismiss it.

He needed to handle his nakedness situation first.

Luckily, he had a solution.

He intertwined his fingers together, then slowly pulled them apart. Thin, silvery strands stretched between his fingertips.

Spider thread.

This was a skill he had gained from analyzing the spider when he’d carried it in his storage. He wasn’t aware of it before, but after loading skills from Luna, he had attempted this - and it succeeded.

With this, he should be able to make some semi-decent clothes.

A three-dimensional projection made of mana appeared before him, glowing softly in the dim church interior.

What should I make?

A suit appeared in the projection, spinning slowly.

Nah. Too formal.

Another set of clothes materialized, replacing the first.

Nah. Too casual.

Then another.

Maybe.

Then another appeared.

Hmm... this could work.

With the decision made, he began the process of making clothes.

While he didn’t have much knowledge of tailoring, as long as he could picture the three-dimensional model of the clothing in his mind, he could use his extremely powerful cognitive abilities to reverse engineer the creation process.

The thread on his hands began to turn and weave into itself. Strands interlocked and twisted, slowly forming into cloth. The fabric continued turning and linking, piece connecting to piece.

The great thing about this thread was that it was formed through mana. He could hijack the creation process to apply natural pigmentation, meaning the clothes wouldn’t have to be plain.

A while later, he was finished.

He wore the completed outfit and examined himself.

It wasn’t anything fancy. Just a simple shirt and pants, with a large dark coat to cover up his lack of fashion sense.

This should do.

At that moment, the door to the church swung open.

Luna walked in first, followed by Roselle. The princess immediately dropped to one knee.

"My Lord, I have completed the mission you assigned."

"Good," he acknowledged.

Before he could say anything else, Luna charged toward him with open arms.

"Dad!"

She crashed into him, wrapping him in a tight embrace. He stumbled slightly but managed to stay upright.

After a moment, she pulled back and looked up at him, her head tilting to the side.

"Something seems different about you."

"You just noticed?" he asked.

Roselle remained kneeling, her head bowed deeply.

"Congratulations to the Lord for recovering your strength!"

"Recovering?" Lunaris asked.

"Wasn’t the Lord injured?" Roselle asked. "That is why you were so weak before."

Weak? Isn’t that going too far?

"What makes you think I’ve recovered?" he asked.

"You can enter this form now." She gestured toward his beastman appearance. "But most importantly - I can feel your mana around me. Unlike before, when it simply spread outward without direction, now it feels much more refined."

Mana?

He wondered if it was because of the new Mana Field skill. It worked somewhat similar to Mana Manipulation.

Speaking of, he needed to solve the issue with his perception. Earlier, he had gained the wolf transformation, and now he had the beastman transformation too. But he still preferred Mana Sense - well, it was Mana Field now - to see, compared to natural eyes.

Compared to Mana Field, his natural vision felt as though he was almost blind.

And in this dangerous world where slight hesitation could mean the end of him, he needed every advantage he could get.
