Chapter 50: Intelligence

Lunaris stood before the smaller group.

Around two hundred beastmen remained, with Mira at his side.

He observed them carefully.

There were all types among them. Some had wolf-like features. Others were more cat-like. A few even had wings sprouting from their backs.

And then there were...

Wait.

Elves?

He paused.

Two girls stood near the back of the group. They looked nearly identical - twins, perhaps. Their ears were long and pointed. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

But their skin was a little darker.

They were definitely elves.

He pointed at them.

"You two. Step forward."

The twins exchanged a glance, then moved through the crowd.

They knelt before him, heads bowed.

He observed them more closely.

Dark skin. White hair. Pointed ears. Slender builds.

They’re definitely elves.

At least they fit the description of elves that he knew off.

"Who is your lord?"

The twins looked up, confusion evident on their faces.

"It is of course Lord Lunaris," one of them answered.

He raised an eyebrow.

"Aren’t you elves? I thought your kind worshiped the Spirit Queen."

The other twin shook her head.

"The Lord misunderstands."

She placed a hand over her heart.

"We are not normal elves. We are dark elves."

Her sister continued.

"Unlike our close relatives who deviated to worship the Spirit Queen, we remained true to our roots."

They spoke in unison.

"We only believe in the Eternal Moon."

Lunaris nodded slowly.

So that’s how it is.

He had been wondering how humans could sell elf slaves when they supposedly had good relations with the elves.

It seemed there was a difference between the two groups.

Well, no matter.

He turned to Mira.

"Mira. Listen to my orders."

She instantly moved before him and dropped to one knee.

"Yes, my Lord."

"You are going to be the head of a new department."

He looked down at her.

"I am calling it the Intelligence Department."

He gestured toward the kneeling beastmen.

"All these people will be your subordinates. They have experience in the human world that could prove useful."

His expression grew serious.

"You will train them and work with them. But there is one thing you all must understand."

He paused.

"Do you know why I didn’t announce this department in front of everyone?"

Mira’s eyes sharpened.

"Because we need to remain unknown for our work to be effective."

"Correct."

He nodded approvingly.

"Since you are my intelligence unit, you must be absolutely secretive. You answer only to me."

He looked out at the gathered beastmen.

"I will inform the other department heads about your existence. But that is all. You must maintain your cover at all times."

His voice hardened.

"You will even stop interacting with other beastmen. Your identities must remain hidden."

He swept his gaze across them.

"Do you understand?"

Every single one of them dropped to their knees.

"We understand!"

Their voices rang out in unison.

"Good."

He extended his hand.

"I will now give you your blessing."

He loaded the v2 Moon Body into all of them - the variant that included Ultraspeed Regeneration.

Then he added more.

Thought Communication.

Dark Elemental Affinity.

Shadow Movement.

Mana Thread.

Some of these Mira already possessed. But now all of them would share the same capabilities.

He wasn’t finished.

He extended his hand once more.

In an instant, their ragged clothes transformed.

They now wore dark assassin-like outfits. Similar to the set Mira had purchased back in Astoria.

They looked down at themselves in amazement.

Then they pressed their foreheads to the ground.

"We thank the Lord for his boundless grace!"

Lunaris observed them silently.

They say knowledge is power.

He had created this group so he would always be up to date on information. Both within the dangerous Beast Forest and far away in the human nations.

Though that last part was still far off.

"Mira."

She looked up at him.

"Begin their training immediately. You should also establish a watch around the village."

His eyes met hers.

"Report to me immediately if you notice anything strange."

Mira rose to her feet and turned to face her new subordinates.

Her voice was cold and commanding.

"Move out."

Instantly, every single one of them sank into their shadows.

They vanished into the ground as if they had never been there at all.

...

Lunaris sat alone in his room.

Finally.

It was time to get his skills in order.

After visiting the human world, he had gained numerous abilities from analyzing the humans he encountered through Analytical Appraisal.

He had also made significant improvements to his existing abilities.

Let’s start with the improvements.

His Thought Acceleration had jumped to 2000x.

This was a whole different world compared to before. The speed at which he could process information, make calculations, and react to situations had increased exponentially.

With the help of this improvement, his Spatial Domain had also managed to leap forward. From the initial ten meters unfiltered to two hundred meters unfiltered.

A twenty-fold increase.

He had also gained other abilities similar to his own during his time in Astoria. These were absorbed by his existing skills. While this didn’t lead to anything entirely new, his existing abilities improved overall.

Their foundations became more stable and their efficiency increased.

Now for the new abilities.

He gained Complete Elemental Affinity - the merger of all individual elemental affinities he had collected. Fire, Earth, Dark, Metal, Water, Wood, Wind, Ice, Lightning, and Light.

All unified into one.

He gained Heat Resistance from a blacksmith.

He gained Thread Manipulation from a tailor. This skill merged with his existing Mana Thread to form something new.

Mana Weaving.

This was a more advanced form of the skill. It allowed for deeper control, finer precision, and easier manipulation of his threads. He could weave complex patterns now. Create intricate structures of mana with minimal effort.

He also acquired Pattern Recognition, Danger Sense, Pain Resistance, and Enhanced Stamina.

All useful skills in their own right.

But all of those...

They didn’t compare to another skill he had gained after coming back.

And that was...

Moon Saintess.

Roselle’s unique skill.

The way he had acquired it was actually quite simple.

When he first gave her the Moon Body skill, he had bundled something extra inside it.

A thread of Parallel Thought.

This was an experiment. He wasn’t sure if it would work.

But it did.

The only problem was that the separated thread couldn’t hold continuous thoughts very well. While it had similar processing power to his main thread, it seemed consciousness wasn’t that easy to create externally.

So he just repurposed the thread as a processor that just did one thing and one thing only.

Analyze Roselle from the inside out.

The thread worked silently. Day after day without her noticing a thing.

And finally, today, he retrieved the thread.

He smiled.

Now...

Time to see what you’re hiding, Eternal Moon.
