Chapter 284: Shameless

Michael observed as James launched the attack. Even though it was sudden, it was not something that Michael could not react to.

Nevertheless, he did not do anything, and at the same time, he instructed the clone not to take action either.

With his current ability, not to mention attacking, he would be able to take out this guy even before he raised his hand, to initiate the attack.

This was the first time that Michael was encountering a mutant. That was why he wanted to see just how powerful a mutant was.

As for danger, that was something that Michael did not even consider. After all, not to mention his personal strength, he had the ADLA.

If the ADLA could not handle this bullet that was compressed from air, he would at most be injured. Of course, he would not allow this bullet to strike him at vital area.

So, despite James aiming for Michael’s heart, Michael was able to shift his body, making it so that the air bullet did not strike his left chest.

Instead, the attack landed on his shoulder that was intentionally shifted downwards, in order to align with the trajectory of the attack.

The moment that the pressure bullet came into contact with Michael’s skin, the ADLA activated as the pressure of the bullet increased against the skin.

The more depression increased, the more solid the armor became. And eventually, the pressure bullet was completely neutralized, as it dispersed into air.

As for Michael, apart from a slight each coming from the area of contact, he did not feel anything else from the attack. It seemed, the power content within the attack was not enough to be able to do damage to the armor.

As for if it had struck him directly without the protection of the armor, Michael estimated that it would just be a flesh wound. He was not really sure if that would be the case, but it would definitely not cause much damage, at least it would not be far off from a flesh wound.

"A sneak attack, but it doesn’t have enough lethality." Michael spoke just a second after the pressure bullet dispersed.

As he was speaking, he gazed towards James, who was currently wearing a dumbfounded expression.

The ability that he had gotten did not enhance his physical attributes. This implied, his strength, agility and speed were just as they were before he took the mutation serum.

So of course, he was not able to follow the trajectory of his own attack. It was not that much different from using a gun.

A person could aim towards the target, pull the trigger, but they would not be able to follow the bullet as it flew through the air towards the target.

All that the person would know was that, the attack had been launched, and by observing the target, they would be able to know if the attack was successful or not.

It was the same here with James. He only knew that he had already launched an attack, and of course, this lasted just about a second.

But even then, when he launched the attack, he was closely observing Michael. He was quite curious to see what would happen after he launched the attack.

Then something that shocked him happened. That was, just after he had launched the attack, he saw that Michael was able to move.

He could not clearly see the movement, but even then, this guy, he actually moved, placing his shoulder on the path of the bullet that he had launched.

And now, looking at Michael who was completely fine, while speaking to him, James’ raised hand dropped to the side.

At this moment, he knew, he had no chance. And judging from the fact that the masked man had not reacted, it was still that he was confident that James would not be able to do anything.

Just dealing with Michael was troublesome. Then, what would happen if there were two people with the same level of strength?

Understanding that it was impossible for him to be able to leave this place, he felt resigned.

He said, "Okay, I have failed the mission. Go ahead, kill me. Because if you don’t, I will go back to the organization, and inevitably, someone else will come for you."

Michael, who had not stood up from the seat from the start, finally stood up. He gazed at James for quite a while, before he asked, "It must be Amos who posted the bounty, right?"

The moment that Michael asked that question, both Bob and Gregory were left dumbfounded. They of course knew who Amos was.

He was the leader of the Blood reapers syndicate. But, according to what they knew, at least from what Bob knew, Amos did not know about Michael.

That was unless there was an interaction between the two of them that he wasn’t aware of. Additionally, from that interaction, it was enough to make Amos go to the death shadow organization, to place a bounty on Michael’s head.

And from the fact that this person from the death shadow organization was a mutant, it was clear that the price that was paid by Amos was quite hefty.

As Bob realized this, he wanted to make a call. But considering the situation, he was not in a position to do that. If he dared to do that, he would really die.

James on the other hand, upon hearing Michael’s question, looked confused. He responded, "I don’t really know. In the organization, despite my status as a mutant, we follow the same policy.

The name of the client is not revealed to the person taking the mission. So, unless you use your own methods to find out, as an assassin, it would be impossible for you to be able to know who it was that gave the task."

"Oh, that is the case? Anyway, we will talk later. For now, obediently sit on the side, and wait for me to deal with these other two.

They were here before you, so, let’s follow the rule of first come first served." Michael nodded as he said.

When he said those words, while James felt temporary relief, the same could not be said about Bob and Gregory.

While they had already known that they were in big trouble, they had thought, with James’s arrival, things might change, and they might have a chance of leaving.

But now, looking at the situation, it was clear that it was going to be impossible for them to leave.

Gregory, still enduring the pain, said, "Boss, there is no need to follow that rule at all. We are willing to concede our first place to him. We can wait."

The moment that Gregory said those words, everyone in the room gazed at him. Bob, despite this being the first lengthy interaction with Gregory, he had heard stories about this guy.

But, why did this guy, the way that he was acting, not much the traits that he was given before? He knew that Gregory was temperamental, and very easy to get angry.

And more than that, he was very prideful and petty. He can never accept even the smallest loss. He would have to avenge it no matter what the cost.

But now, looking at him speaking like that, Bob was obviously shocked. Though, despite the shock, Bob vigorously nodded his head.

If Michael could focus on James, at least, they would have a little more time to live. So what if this was an act of shamelessness? Were they not just trying to live?

"Would you agree with that?" Michael was silent for a moment before he asked James, who was just about to sit down.

"Of course not. I am never one to bully others. Since they came first, you can help them out first. I can wait. Maybe, I can come tomorrow, or if you have a busy schedule, I can come next month, or even next year. I can wait." James quickly responded as he continuously shook his head.

What a joke! This was a matter of life and death. Maybe, if he was given a little more time, he could maybe sneak away? Or maybe, there might be something unexpected happening, which would allow him to be able to escape?

No matter how low the chances and the probabilities of anything favorable happening were, he had to hope for the best. So, of course, he was not willing to be killed first.

Bob and Gregory on the other hand were left even more speechless. It seemed, in terms of shamelessness, they could not compare with this guy.

"Doesn’t matter, let me decide." Michael shook his head as he responded.

Immediately after speaking, he gazed at Gregory and Bob. He said, "This time, when you came over, you had no intention of killing me. But even then, you were trying to force me to do something that I don’t want to do.

And by the way, this guy, were you not trying to kill me just a few minutes ago? Since that is the case, you should be ready to pay for the consequences."

Just after Michael finished speaking, the clone made a move. Before Gregory could even plead his case, the clone was already in front of him.

He was not even given a chance of reacting before a fist bashed into his head, smashing his head against the floor, making the tiles below to crack.

And in the next moment, the clone stomped on his neck, completely crushing it. And just like that, a grade B mutant died.

"As for you..." Immediately after the clone dealt with Gregory, Michael gazed at Bob, sending shivers down his spine.
