Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Mimic Invasion(8)

Alchemy’s hand reached for the head of the demon mimic. As it connected, her eyes widened briefly as she expected that barrier to encompass the entire creature.

Regardless, she tore the thing out of the portal and jumped up. She tried to break the strings that connected the demon to the crossbar, but the strength of said strings stopped her dead.

Realizing she couldn’t go any further, she tossed the thing at one of the Phantom Knives she had created. The force from her throw caused dust to fly everywhere. Not that she cared, as Alchemy was about to continue her assault, only for the System to call her back.

"So a Summoner."

Her bronze chains shot into the dust cloud with a wave of her arm. The sound of the heavy alloy colliding with something dense echoed throughout the area, only for skeletons to charge at her from the smoke.

They crawled on seven legs with a scorpion’s stinger that oozed a viscous, almost slime-like liquid.

Alchemy swiped away the notifications as she was about to deal with the charging skeletons, but Sapphire was half a step faster, shattering the three that charged at her.

"Sapphire!"

"I won’t let them get close to you!" Sapphire stated, standing in front of her.

Alchemy was going to respond, but before she could, a high-pitched screech came from the dust cloud, scattering it and attempting to apply a mental debuff.

Right as Alchemy realized what was going on, she covered Sapphire’s ears.

She briefly looked around to confirm that nobody was affected by the debuff before turning to the Mimicry Disaster.

At last, she got a good look at the foe she was facing.

The boss, Wraith Marionette, was a humanoid figure made of glistening material. It was just shy of two meters tall and moved around bizarrely. It was controlled like a wooden puppet but had no joints.

Surrounding it, its two types of summons began appearing as it chanted in a language that even Alchemy couldn’t understand with her Communication sub-skill.

Alongside the aforementioned scorpion-like Venom Leapers were floating eyeballs that circled the Marionette without attacking.

’They’re like defensive turrets, maybe?’ Alchemy mused.

Without looking back, Alchemy gave Nera the signal to attack.

{Frosts protect your dealers! Everyone else supports the vanguard! Commence the attack!}

The Verminae let out rowdy clicks and chirps as they began to move.

"Handle the summons! As many as you can!" Alchemy told Sapphire.

"Yes!"

Alchemy and Sapphire pushed forward as the Frostmarks moved to block the advance of the Venom Leapers that were trying to target the Emberbugs and Wingrazers.

As their name suggested, they leaped around with great agility, nearly catching some of the Wingrazers off guard.

It only took a few seconds for Alchemy’s frontal assault to reach the boss. As Venom Leapers tried to stop her, Sapphire’s crystals caused the frail pile of bones to shatter like glass.

As she got into the range of the seven Gazers, they fired off black lasers at Alchemy. She barely managed to dodge two of them, opting to block the others with her dual reinforcements.

The blasts that she didn’t dodge caused the ground and trees they hit to begin eroding.

"Erosion must really be a common ability!" She scoffed.

The Marionette and Gazer turrets tried to evade Alchemy, but her range of movement was simply too much, as she launched herself from a tree and kicked one of the gazers into the ground.

Her first attack wasn’t enough to finish the creature, forcing her to stomp her foot down as hard as she could to get the proper notification.

|<Idol: Clausura Aeternum has been activated!>|

Jumping to evade the attacks that she could, Alchemy summoned her chains to capture two more of the gazers. Instead of just detaining them, however, she made her chains constrict until the floating eyes burst.

’They give so little EXP. Is it because they’re summons?’

It was better than those fake Dire Horns from the Instance dungeon, but it was a little sad that she was barely getting any experience from these.

Not that it mattered, nor did she have time to worry about it as she moved to deal with the next summon. Before she committed to taking down another Gazer, she realized that more Type 2-1-1 and Type 2-1-2s were rising from the ground.

She turned her attention back to the summoner, grabbing his head again and slamming him into the ground. Although he took no damage, the summons stopped appearing briefly.

Unfortunately, the remaining Gazers took the chance to shoot her in the back, sending her to the ground. While she ignored it to the best of her ability, the beams of Demonic Energy hurt like hell, even if the damage they dealt individually wasn’t that high.
