Empress Hui was preparing to go out to the private royal hospital, specifically the luxury confinement center where new mothers that came from the royal hospital stayed to recover after child birth. It was the place where she had instructed her people to hide Mo Liang.

She had chosen it because it was a place ordinary people did not dare to venture into. Even if the Jun’s and Chi’s wielded some influence in the empire, she was one hundred percent certain that they would not dare to cross into that territory. Doing so was considered a crime which normally resulted in execution on the spot for the fear that someone was intending to harm royal heirs.

Empress Hui was feeling pretty proud of herself for her clever scheme. No matter how hard they looked they would never find him until he had fully recovered and ready to claim Jun Meilin as his wife.

Just as she was about to exit her bedroom, royal agents that protected the emperor stepped in her path, blocking the way.

Ji Waning whose breath smelled of smoke said to her, "Your royal highness, forgive us but we are going to have to offend you. The emperor has instructed us not to allow you step out of your chambers or the palace until the day of the national liberation celebration. Please, make it easy for us and go back inside."

Empress Hui scoffed, she thought that it was a joke. "How dare you stop me? Ji Waning, you must be out of your mind. I am the empress, I can do whatever I want. I command you to get out of my way right now." She propped her shoulders up and puffed her chest up.

None of the royal agents backed away, her command fell ob deaf ears like wind hitting a solid wall without hope for escape. Ji Waning jutted his chin out and made a ’mmm’ sound, indicating that she should return from where she had come.

"We have also been instructed to capture your communication devices." Ji Waning added.

The old leader of the royal secretaries had never liked the empress. She thought Empress Hui was too bossy and very unprofessional for she treated them like maids with empty tins for brains, meant to do her bidding at all times. She was always barking at them, insulting them or making their lives miserable in one way or another.

It was not very different for the royal agents. She treated them like crap as well and even allowed Long Shuang to call them peasants and force them to give her rides on their backs, on their hands and knees like horses. Long Shuang even ordered them to make neighing noises.

If the emperor had not found out and put a stop to it, perhaps the mother and her snooty daughter would be ordering for the beheading of royal employees by now.

Now that the chance to get some revenge had presented itself, all of the royal secretaries had come. Some had even come partially dressed as they had been in a hurry. For example, one secretary named Ai-Ai had a silk bonnet on her head. Another that was named Yan Lan had forgotten to take off the white face mask she was using to add an extra glow to her skin.

Secretary Qin was wearing only one slipper, having run over from the way it looked and secretary Xiang’s hair was damp. She had a tooth brush in her hand. All of them had been on night duty, so they were sleeping in the royal palace that night.

"Hurry up and confiscate the devices." Ji Waning sternly told the secretaries that were not moving.

Mumbling insincere apologies, the secretaries pushed the empress back into her chambers. Five royal agents followed, to assist them. Ignoring her loud protests, they started with her phones, all six of them.

Then, they moved to her three laptops, desk computer, the television was removed from the wall. Even the refrigerator was taken as it could be used to access WIFI.

In the era of technology, smart toothbrushes had been invented. They were silly inventions that could up load information to the internet about the health state of your teeth. The company that invented them even had an app where users could shared daily brushing data. The toothbrushes were also confiscated.

It was not the only personal hygiene device that was smart. Smart toothbrushes had inspired smart combs, exfoliating gloves, shower pods, smart nail clippers that ensured even trimming. None were left behind.

One royal agent even brought out a detector to scan for hidden gadgets and he used it as if he was seeking for hidden gold in the sand.

All smart vacuum cleaners and the tiny robot butler which the empress secretly hid was also found. It was not as secret as she thought, all the maids knew about it which meant that everyone knew about it.

Every device was taken, the empress’s chambers were turned upside down and in the process, some of her precious vases were "accidentally" broken.

"We have everything." Secretary Qin told Ji Waning.

Ji Waning called in maids to clean up the chambers and then a new team of female agents entered the chambers, stationing themselves in the living room, bedroom, balcony, reading room and every corner of the very large chambers.

Empress Hui was seated in a sofa, heaving and glaring daggers at everyone that had participated in this operation.

"The emperor has a message for you." Ji Waning told her. He opened a royal edict.

The tradition of kneeling down to receive one had been eradicated, now the people could stand and bow. The empress stood up as soon as she recognized what was in Ji Waning’s hands.

Displeasure coated the rims of her eyes like storm clouds gathering at the edge of a restless horizon, darkening with unspoken grievances.

Ji Waning opened the royal edict and read aloud: "The Emperor, in compliance with the Will of Heaven proclaims: Since the founding of the Long Dynasty, the Empress has always been the proud mother of the nation. It has come to the attention of the royal court that the Empress has failed in her duty of rearing her child. She has sown indulgence and foolishness, straying from the path of wisdom and discipline.

Thus, let it be known that from this day forward, the Empress shall retreat into her chambers where solitude shall be her companion and reflection her guide. She is to stay away from all royal affairs and copy the ancestral rules that were passed down by our ancestors on guiding royal women. This punishment will last until further notice and only when she shows genuine sincerity and remorse shall she be let out of her chambers. I decree this!"

Ji Waning stepped forward and held out the imperial edict, waiting for the Empress to accept it. She could either submit dutifully or protest but either way, she would have to accept it.
