Last Ruler Of The Empty Throne-Chapter 108: Second evolution
Now his traits weren’t actively stopping him, he was now himself. What would happen? Could they actually survive this whole ordeal? He remembered the second realm he fought previously. There wasn’t a possibility he wouldn’t find another, the fact he found one meant there was a second. And if there was a second, it meant there were more.
"No one knows." Amelia sighed as she looked up.
"What?" Jon snapped his head to her. It was obvious by now, Amelia was from one of those worlds that had stabilized, so how could they not have figured out the reason for all this.
"It’s as I said, there is no specific reason. It just appears, forces the world and the inhabitants to evolve." It seemed what Amelia even knew wasn’t so much different from what he knew too.
But no matter what, there had to be a reason. It was either a preparation for something or it was looking for something. Jon didn’t want to believe the system or Embroyniel as they would call it, would give skills, treasures and even make peerless existences like Amelia and not be preparing something. The loss was too much if there was no reason for it.
"Imagine people who have been alive for centuries and millennia’s and all they could find out about the existence of the system is its name. It is so mysterious that even the best scholars give up in their search for answers. So, you should also forget about trying to understand the reason and you should do everything in your power to survive this ordeal, and trust me if you survive, if you survive do, the rewards would be the best" After her speech she gazed down at Jon.
And as it intended, Jon calmed, and his control of his traits were back. It felt like the calmness after a still. All his traits even took his calmness to another level that his face showed an immediate change.
"Besides, how long has this world been in its evolution phase." Amelia asked.
"A little over a month now," he already knew he had slept for days, so he couldn’t just say a month. But that wasn’t in his mind right now,
"What happened?" Jon immediately asked as he saw the eyes filled with shock and disbelief over Amelia. He had even begun looking around and spread his senses, but there was nothing.
"H-How?" She muttered. Then everything started getting clear for her. She had obviously gone around the camp to pick up information about the general situation. She already even knew the hierarchy in the camp, but she didn’t hear anything about when the world fell.
No, everyone was almost too busy to have time to talk about the past they all wanted to forget, so she couldn’t hear about it. Honestly when she came to this world, she had thought they were already in their sixth month which was still considered as a beginner’s world. Though, they didn’t know this yet, but their lifespan had increased just by the introduction of mana in the world. So, in the face of hundreds of years, what was a six-month time.
But that wasn’t it, it was the fact this world was just in its second month, and it was in its second evolution. It wasn’t only that, it was the fact a ’piece’ was already available in the second month. It was really a scary pace at which it was moving and growing, ’This world is really...’ she regained herself and looked at Jon and said,
"Haa...the hordes of zombies you just fought was caused by the evolution process of the world."
"So, this is the second evolution?" Jon already understood what she was saying.
"Yes." Amelia nodded in acknowledgement. Others might not relate, but the start of the fall was the first evolution.
"And that isn’t all, as the world evolves, new things will also appear."
"Like that ape?" Jon titled his head in confusion. The ape didn’t seem like a new thing, no it was just like a stronger and mutated version of the other monsters he had seen.
"No, much worse and annoying than that." Amelia shook her head.
"Hmm...so are we talking things like goblins, vampires, mermaids or things like that." Jon said jokingly and she gave him a strange look,
"What?"
"How did you know?"
"Know what?"
"Those are the things that come with evolution,"
"What?" Jon looked at her in shock.
"You’re surprised; I thought you really had an idea."
"No, it’s just..." He couldn’t say he guessed off the novels he usually read from, so he changed the topic. "So, what exactly will come."
"I don’t know"
"Hah...let me guess it’s not the same everywhere." Jon was beginning to get frustrated at her nonanswers to his questions.
"Well, that is among it, but I have already told you. I come from a world that had its last evolution in who knows when. And besides, this world is a truly strange one."
"Is that why you froze when I asked that question," he remembered her being shocked after him mentioning after he said it had only been two months.
"Yes, let me tell you now. It is not normal that the second evolution is already taking place."
"Wait, you mean it hasn’t ended?" Jon thought he had taken care of the issues that might prove dangerous, especially those millions of zombies. But now, from the way Amelia was talking, the evolution hadn’t ended.
"Yes, it actually is still in its beginning phase and only when all the changes are made to this world, the evolution will end."
"So, the ape?"
"Oh, that was a rare instance. Even if they are around, they would be hibernating and accumulating mana."
"Phew," he let a heavy sigh of relief he didn’t know he had. He had killed the ape by luck and luck alone. If he didn’t have even one of those skills at that moment, he would have died. For example, if he didn’t have enough mana to explode the rod, or if, he didn’t have the rod in the first place.
Things just seemed to work out, and with the way things were, he didn’t think he was confident enough to fight another one.
"I really almost died." He mused,
And as if Amelia also knew what he was talking about, she mocked him, "So you know."
Jon just shook his head, he had to put his whole being on the line in that fight and it seemed Amelia was still mocking him regardless, "So just more enemies" his tone suddenly became more serious.
All this while, he had just been talking with ease and since Amelia had said she still had rules to follow, it meant she couldn’t outright hurt him or anyone he knew. However, from this evolution he heard from her, he was only smelling enemies all over. He actually didn’t care about them, but there was a high possibility of them obstructing his goals.
And anyone who obstructs him will face his wrath. However, Amelia then said something,
"You don’t have to see it like that."
"What do you mean?" Jon asked in confusion.
"Not all of them will be hostile, and in the same way as this evolution is dangerous. The opportunities almost outweigh the disadvantages and if you can find those advantages, it will be fine."
"Hmm..." it was actually something to reconsider. An example of the advantage outweighing the disadvantages was the ’piece’ he had just gotten. He even pulled it out and started rolling it on his hand.
This little toy object could actually multiply as much as it is given enough energy and something to duplicate. And that wasn’t even all, the duplicates could also help gain levels, cores, treasures and even meat. In this situation, where was the loss.
But he wasn’t naïve to think, he could always find something like this. However, they would be good. And for the matter of the new changes and monsters of the second evolution, he would decide that when the time comes.
He gripped the ’Piece’ tightly as little whyte suddenly appeared and jumped on him.
"Hey, little guy." Jon took it and played with it a little, he even thanked it for reducing his pain. The pain had really been too much for him, and if not for little wyhte, he would have died from the pain instead.
"Hmm, looking at it again, I really don’t know what this beast is." Amelia moved closer and observed little whyte moving around Jon.
"You don’t?" Though he asked, he was still focused in little whyte.
"Yes, beasts aren’t rare and there usually is nothing special about them, however this one seems a bit special."
"Right...that feeling that just makes you want to consume it."
And maybe the puppy truly understood what he was saying, it froze in its tracks and started shaking a bit.
"It’s just a joke, just a joke..." he chuckled at its behavior and the puppy fearing for its life disappeared back into the watch. And Jon didn’t chase it, he decided to just let it go.
"A watch that can store living things..." Amelia now found her new interest; she had also seen it from the distance. Now looking at it closely, it really seemed like an ancient treasure. But she didn’t ask about it. She was sure even Jon didn’t know so much about it and just found it by chance.
’However, the chance of that happening is too little. First the ’Piece’, now this.’ If she had actually asked, maybe she would have figured out it he didn’t get it by luck, he was actually given.
