Chapter 80: Day 10

Finally, it was the last day for the final merger to take place.

Today, the last batch would finally leave Camp 1 and move to the new one, Camp 2, and there would be the next general meeting to discuss everything that had happened and the next stage in their plan.

And that wasn’t all, they would see the leader they hadn’t seen for days now. Many new people were attending the meeting who were naturally curious about him. They had heard so many stories about him, but the common ones among all were his intelligence and strength.

They heard he was so strong that he could take on everybody in the camp, even though the number of First Realm evolvers had increased, and he was so smart that Nancy took notes.

After these few days, who didn’t know who and what Nancy was? Though she was young, she was so intelligent that they always wanted to avoid getting into her trouble. Even if it wasn’t that, they had heard she was cherished by the leader because of her efficiency.

Then, hearing she even took notes from the leader, their curiosity was at an all-time high.

And the rumors kept getting exaggerated as the days went on. Many saw his strength as divine, while some argued he wouldn’t be that strong because he had not leveled up for a while now—most of these were survivors from Camp 2. It was normal for them to dismiss all the rumors as exaggerations since they hadn’t seen it before; they hadn’t even seen Jenny and Cynthia use their full power.

But anyway, their curiosity would be satisfied today.

Victor and Victoria were really excited about it. They were just as curious as everyone else as they took their seats in the conference room set up on the highest floor of the tallest building.

At this point, many had entered and started taking their seats. Cynthia and Jenny were seated in the seats closest to the only seat at the head of the table. Alexa and Laura were seated beside Jenny and Cynthia, and like that, the rest took their seats.

Luna also attended. Since she would get to see what type of person the leader was today, she attended and sat in her own corner with her executives from the rebels.

The conference room was silent for a while, then Nancy walked in. She stood close to the chair beside the head of the table and waited. Then—

WHOOOSH

Through the broken window Killian had broken, a tall, light chocolate-skinned young man with short brown hair that stood straight, brown eyes that formed an almost diamond shape, an earring in his right ear that accented his looks, and wearing all-black clothing, entered.

After entering, he calmly glanced around at the people sitting around the conference table, from Jenny down to the last person.

Some who didn’t expect this sudden turn of events immediately began preparing their skills.

However, Nancy bowed a little and said, "Welcome, Leader."

WHIRRR

Lost for words, they canceled their skills and kept staring at him.

He just looked way too young and handsome to be the leader of anything. If they were told he was rather a successor to a large corporation, they wouldn’t be surprised. Heck, if they were told he was a playboy, they would admit it. However, a leader?

Jon couldn’t read their minds, so he didn’t know what their thoughts were and just greeted Nancy back.

"Oh, Nancy, good work." He smiled and nodded at her.

"Hey, so you can fly now or what?" Jenny asked in confusion.

If there was anybody who would be the first to fly, it would be Cynthia—but what was she seeing? Even Cynthia looked like she wanted answers.

"Oh, I jumped," he just answered and took his seat, then looked at his original group.

"Congratulations," he smiled lightly as he looked at Robin and Norman. They had become First Realm evolvers, increasing the strength of their little group. After hearing their response, he looked at the new face.

"Before we begin, say what you want to say." Even though he couldn’t read their minds, he could see their faces. And it all told something, curiosity.

The new people were taken aback at first and started looking at one another. Who would speak first? Jon waited for them to decide, and it didn’t take long for someone to stand.

"I am Luna, and before I decide to join your team, I wanted to know what our goal was?" Luna spoke without making it sound nice or using any sophistry.

"Goals?" Jon looked up for a while after hearing the question. Even in the blacksmith’s place, he had thought of his goals. And what he thought of wasn’t much different from what he had told Jenny and Cynthia that night.

"It isn’t a goal per se. A place where we can do anything without anyone telling us what to do, where the people under us can feel safe and secure. Basically, a safe place. And anyone that tries to stop that..." He just shook his head instead of continuing.

He didn’t need to say he would crush them, there’s a saying, "Action is louder than words." And they would see it in action.

"Are you satisfied?" He looked at Luna.

She then nodded and sat down. And maybe because of the atmosphere, nobody wanted to ask any questions again. Or rather, their questions weren’t as important as the goal from now on.

"Then let’s start." He gestured to Nancy to continue.

"Yes, with the merger now complete and a census taken, this camp now has 5,634 people." Immediately she said it, Jon received a notification:

[YOU HAVE REACHED A THRESHOLD IN LEADERSHIP. THE PEOPLE UNDER YOU HAVE GROWN][YOU HAVE OBTAINED TITLE ’LEADER’][LEADER: YOU HAVE OVER 5,000 INTELLIGENT BEINGS UNDER YOU.EFFECT: ALL STATS +30COMMAND: YOU CAN KNOW THE INTENTIONS OF ONE OF THE PEOPLE LIVING UNDER YOU ONCE A MONTH.]

"Mm?" Jon was surprised at the notification he got from the system. Wait, just 5,000? The stats boost was already crazy, then what would happen if he had a million under him?

He had to stop his thoughts. It’s a shame, but that isn’t my plan. He didn’t plan to take over the country. This could even cause wars. If the lowest boost was +30 in all stats, people would definitely fight over every stage of it.

As he was thinking, Nancy had finished talking about the breakdown of the population—the number of evolvers, workers, and others. Then she went on:

"We have gathered 2,567 unranked cores and 20 First Realm cores. We have also gathered 6,467 orbs from the monsters. We have gathered about 10 tons of meat, dozens of bags of rice, wheat, beans, and other provisions. We are still low on pre-apocalypse weapons because the police weren’t known to have that many weapons, and...

We have started finding plants, metals, and trees with various effects, and after a few tests, they will be available to the public. It doesn’t matter if you are already an evolver—if you have the skill, you will be paid accordingly...

We have found a way to use the public address system, so a general message can be passed around more efficiently. Now, onto losses..." She took a pause and looked at the faces around her, then continued.

"We have lost exactly 168 evolvers in scout missions. We have lost approximately 3 tons of meat due to the constant feeding of the survivors. We’ve had to kill 189 survivors for attempts at various crimes like rape, violence against others, stealing, and property destruction. The ammunition of the policemen has been exhausted trying to quell disruptions occurring in various places. Forty of the squad leaders decided to leave the camp and start their own camp elsewhere, taking about a hundred survivors with them. We let them go since they weren’t under undue influence or threats. And that marks the end of the report." She then closed her book and looked at Jon.

The report was longer than usual as she went into more details for each of the headings, but it was a general meeting, so it had to be mentioned, especially in the area of the losses. It made everyone shocked at the happenings occurring in the camp that they weren’t aware of. Most of them just went on the scouts and came back to their houses, so they weren’t aware. However, they should have seen the effect of it happening.

"Good work, Nancy." Now it was time to add his input, so Nancy took out her book and pen, looking with sparkling eyes. It seemed she was always eager for more knowledge.

He had actually seen the summary of her report before today, so he wasn’t as shocked as most in this meeting. And except for the loss of lives, he had expected the rest to happen. Not that it was a good thing to happen, it was just better to prepare one’s mind for those kinds of situations.

So, he began by saying, "The wrongfully killed will be buried properly, and as of now, the first part of the plan has been completed." He looked at the faces of everybody in the room and continued,

"Now, moving on to the second part. Before we start this, I will say it from now on, free food will stop being given out."

People displayed shocked expressions at his words. Food was one of the things they were expecting, but they didn’t expect it to be crossed out like this.

"Yes, we can’t have people slacking off because we will feed them. From now on, you all work for the food, and you are paid for doing whatever job you’re involved in. For example, people working will be given a particular portion of food each day, and orbs and cores will be given as payment for the work done."

"Next, there’s going to be a new hierarchy. First and foremost, the evolvers will be the military. And the military will be divided into teams, squads, divisions, companies, platoons, battalions, regiments, and legions. For better organization, and since it’s just the beginning, Jenny, Cynthia, Alexa, and Laura will be the first four legion leaders."

"For the rest of you, the achievements you all accumulate will determine your ranks. And you should know one thing, no position is permanent."

The looks on the faces of the people there changed several times in the span of seconds. But one thing was sure at the end: they all wanted to be at the head of that list.

"Now, the list of levels in the army is a long one to give everyone an opportunity. The normal workers aren’t left out either. Just like the eight levels of the army, you have from level 1–8 to reach. From now on, Nancy is level 7 as the camp’s administrator."

"Now, if you don’t like the rules, you can leave. But you will still be paid for the work you have rendered."

Like that, a clearer picture was being drawn in the heads of the people sitting at the table, and they nodded in understanding. Nobody even thought of leaving, they couldn’t survive by themselves outside, so they could only stay and obey.

"And finally, the name of our faction is..." He put his hand on his chin as he thought of a name.
