Chapter 84: First camp

"Haa....Yes this is it."

Exiting the blacksmith room for the first time in nine days, he felt relieved. The relaxation of his muscles under the wind that blew over him left him feeling fulfilled.

"Eh?" The wind was touch every part of his body, fine. However it felt weird, then looking at himself, he didn’t find any clothes on. Even though, he didn’t even touch the fire, he had to change his clothes every day.

They had all melted in strange places he couldn’t explain and this was no different. His head then snapped around him and sighed in relief.

Most people had already been moved to the other camp, so nobody saw the melted places in his clothes.

’I need a shower.’ Without wasting time, he ran to his building. He didn’t pass the gate; in case anyone was still present. Reaching the now familiar bedroom, he took of his clothes and went to the bathroom.

"Mmm..." he moaned as his body slid in the bath tub.

The idea of showering was something he really liked. The feeling of water on his skin, the bliss that could make one forget themselves and the thoughts that came when he was in it.

After staying like that for about two hours, he left the shower and went to the room. With a thought, he took out the remaining meat he had made in the blacksmith room and started eating.

"Pipipi..." Then little whyte suddenly appeared and began making some sounds.

"Hey, how was I meant to know that and how did you know?" Jon looked at it dumbfounded. The puppy was complaining for him eating alone.

"Piii..."

"Haa..." Jon sighed and gave the puppy out of the meat.

’Since the connection was formed, I have been able to understand it. And strangely, like Gar’al it doesn’t know how it got there.’ After realizing they could communicate to an extent, Jon had asked the puppy some questions, however it didn’t know.

’Well, nothing I can do about that.’

After the meal, he laid on the bed.

The next day was the last day, and the meeting day. So, while he too had to rest, he also had to think of what to do next.

The first phase of the plan had included feeding the survivors, providing Jobs, increasing their strength, finding supplies from other places and so on.

The plan was meant to span for a month. But, the plan finished faster than expected with the discovery of the new camp. With the increase of survivors, they had more people for things to do. The discovered place would also have its own resources, and though that meant more to feed, there would be a change in the second plan, which was the cancellation of food and using it as a payment method.

He also had to think of how to arrange them, they couldn’t just be all squad leaders. They had to have something to strive for, like a goal. And finally, what they would do after all of that.

Realistically speaking, they couldn’t remain here forever. The survivors still had hopes of seeing their families in the various parts of the world. And, their supplies would eventually finish.

For this problems to be settled, they would have to keep travelling to the heart of the country.

Without thinking so much about it, he closed his eyes and slept.

That night, maybe because he had really exhausted himself, something that hadn’t happened for a while happened to him.

He dreamt.

Day 10

In a quiet and orderly fashion, the survivors remaining in the first camp entered the buses.

And before long, they had reached the new camp.

After days of work. the policemen had already fixed the perimeter with woods from the trees and scales and bones from the carcasses.

And as usual, Julius took his position as the gate leader.

"Open." Julius shouted towards his men and they stepped aside. Seeing Jon in one of the vehicles, they saluted and greeted.

"Leader Julius," Jon called unto Julius. And upon arriving, he gave him a saber sword. "You have worked hard."

"T-Thank you" Julius received the sword with his two hands. It felt like he was suddenly acknowledged for his hard work. Then he gave another salute.

"When there is a more production, everyone will be able to get, keep up the good work." Jon waved and the vehicles began moving to enter the camp.

VROOOM

Upon entering the camp, he spread his senses all over and noticed somethings.

First, he could tell this camp was larger than the one they came from.

Second, he could see the overall appearances of the survivors and the power emanating from one of every ten he saw. ’It seemed they also did a general increase in strength for this place too.’ Jon nodded as he noted that fact.

It wasn’t like when they got to the first camp. And maybe because the girls had already cleaned up the place, it felt like their first large progress. And ironically, it also marked the end of their first plan.

’This camp will now be called the ’First camp’.’ He made up the name on the spot after seeing the change all around him.

While still in that thought, he remembered the meeting and glanced at his watch, "I shouldn’t be late."

Looking around, he realized it would take time to get to the meeting room. But, thinking of it, he didn’t even know where it was been held. So, he got down from the vehicles and told them to continue while he ran. Upon getting inside the camp, he saw the tallest building.

’Should I climb the building to survey,’ looking at the building again, he saw a hole on the top of the building.

’So that happened again...’ he couldn’t help but chuckle at the broken hole. With that, he quickly formulated a plan. It was to enter the hole to get to the roof.

Without further ado, he ran and jumped up. After reaching the highest he could, he activated ’Double jump.’

And with the jump, he even passed the broken glass hole he saw, but then he started sensing people gathered there. Spreading his senses, he started seeing people he was familiar with, Jenny, Cynthia, Alexa, Laura and Nancy.

’Oh? It was here.’ With a smile, he redirected his movement and entered through the broken glass hole.

***

"So, it was like that." Jenny mused as she understood what Jon had been doing.

"We really need to decide what to do next; we can’t stay here forever." Cynthia picked the part that bothered her the most from the story.

"Yes, but we can only take it one at a time." Jon looked up at the broken glass looking at the sky.

With that, they all retired for the night.

At this point, the survivors in the world had found their stability. Overall, they had learned to cope with the new monsters that appeared.

And since they could even eat them, it became a delicacy they kept looking forward to.

***

Around the world, the leaders of the various camps with over 5000 survivors also got the same message Jon had. And thanks to that, the rate of death of survivors drastically reduced. The benefits they would get by keeping the survivors was more than the loss of killing them. And from the looks of it, the more survivors they had, their titles could increase. So, now those leaders would begin looking for other camps to increase their numbers.

However, nothing had changed with the ones who still had below 5000 survivors. They still acted the way they wanted to. While, some still decided not to kill with their hand and still waited for the military.

But in all, the world moved without waiting for anyone. They all had the same starting line and opportunity, anyone who missed it only had themselves to blame.

The next day in the ’First camp’ was called the first official day.

In the morning, the evolvers went out for their jobs, the remaining survivors went to their various jobs they picked. With the addition of jobs like, Blacksmithing, Biologist, Healers, entertainment sector, meat care, blood care and so on.

The way the camp was now made, it was in a way that all skills way useful. For example, a woman had a skill called ’Eye of observation’. It sounded like a useless skill, but she was given a job to watch particular points in the camp at separate intervals. And even if they weren’t useful at the moment, they were bound to be later in the future.

However even with everything, there would still be those among who didn’t want to do anything. They just wanted to eat and sleep. They thought it wouldn’t matter, that is until they stopped giving food to everyone. Now it had to be worked for.

Most of the people among this group were among the people who were close with Killian. They were obviously young people, who didn’t even have any abilities. So when, they were told food would have to gotten by merit and work. They plotted a protest. They didn’t like the people who replaced Killian in the first place so it made it better.

"We deserve food, you can’t deny us of that." A young man named Adam shouted at the top of his voice. He was the leader of this protest and with his group, numbering about 50.

Gathering in front of the tallest building with their number, they thought they could definitely succeed. And truthfully, they felt like they were winning.

"How can you deny us of food?"

"We need to see the leader."

"Yes."

They kept raising their voice, and obviously it attracted attention from various people who were in about their business.

"What is going on?"

"They said they deserve food?"

"What? We are working for it, and they demand it?" a particularly man was angry at the young people’s attitude.

And the thing was that, he could blame them because the leaders were also very young, maybe even younger than them. So it wasn’t an excuse for their attitude.

So the man just looked at the tallest building, waiting for their response.

"Hey, open it, We need to meet the leader." Adam shouted at the evolvers at the front of the tallest building.

However, the evolvers didn’t even react at the protest, they just stood there.

They totally ignored the man. After all, it wasn’t their job.
