Chapter 61: End of the Battle of the Hill. (1)

Alioth looked at it, the priest’s bloodied hand, which was now extended toward him.

It was almost like mockery toward him, like an insult.

The priest had not only killed Nora, now he was forcing him to fulfill a cruel and uncertain destiny.

Anyone would have rejected that hand, anyone would have preferred to die before joining that murderer.

But seeing Nora dead on the ground, Alioth lost faith in everything.

He lost interest in everything.

Nothing mattered to him anymore, so it was irrelevant to him to accept that hand because for him life no longer had meaning.

He felt invaded by an unimaginable indifference toward all things.

As if seeing Nora die had extinguished his spirit.

However, at that moment when the priest extended his hand, something pierced through it, leaving them both confused.

"What was that?" the man asked confused, seeing a small hole in his hand.

What was happening?

The man raised his gaze toward the sky, gray and blackish clouds covered the sky, making rain fall.

That’s when the priest realized.

Suddenly, a water drop accelerated toward his body, piercing his left eye.

"Rain? Are they attacking me with rain? Really? HAHAHA," the man mocked as he raised his arms and surrounded himself with keter. "How useless do you have to be to think simple rain can pierce through divine energy is st—"

But he didn’t finish his sentence, as another raindrop fell, piercing his tongue and jaw, as well as the crystallized keter protecting his body.

"W-what? Impossible," the man said with surprise, but denying reality didn’t appease his fate.

Suddenly, more pressurized water drops began to shoot against him and make his body convulse.

They fell fast, without any respite, piercing through his keter like bullets pierce glass.

Alioth looked at that phenomenon with confusion.

He didn’t know what was happening either.

He hadn’t done anything to make the rain fall like that.

Who had it been?

"Sorry for the delay, my boy, it was hard to find you in such a large place," a female voice then said.

Alioth recognized her immediately.

It was Nana Baruke.

The Lwa of rain.

The young man looked up, his platinum-colored hair was soaked, as were his clothes, by the rain that Lwa had created.

The doll had spoken from above, while falling from the sky, using her white and blue umbrella to slow her fall.

She wore a puffy dress the same color as her umbrella, and on her head black dreadlocks joined in an elegant bun.

The Lwa landed slowly until positioning herself on Alioth’s shoulder.

"Nana! What are you doing here?" the boy asked with surprise.

Why had that Lwa come?

Had something happened to Aida?

The doll moved her umbrella forward and began to spin it.

"Anansi sent us to look for you, apparently in this city there’s an evil much greater than expected," the doll affirmed while continuing to spin her umbrella.

The water began to spin with the umbrella and gather in a sphere of water right in front of it.

Then, the water sphere shot a whirlwind of pressurized water toward the priest.

The man, who was being riddled with water drops, received the attack full on, in the chest.

The water jet pierced through him and pushed him away, making him crash against the magma, which turned to obsidian immediately.

Alioth looked at that with surprise.

The raindrops and Nana Baruke’s attacks had easily managed to pierce the priest’s defenses and even damage him.

However, not even using his "masterpiece" had he managed to hurt him.

Did that mean each drop was more powerful than an attack capable of destroying part of the hill?

It made no sense at all.

That’s when Alioth remembered he had managed to damage the priest, at least before he got serious.

So why did the attacks damage him now?

Was the priest tired?

Or perhaps he had let his guard down?

But it was neither of those things.

The truth is that Nana Baruke’s rain had the property of being miraculous.

Just as in a time of drought, rain is seen as a miracle from the heavens, Nana Baruke’s water was capable of performing miracles.

Extinguish divine flames that manipulate life and revive the dead?

Possible.

Pierce through an impregnable defense?

Done.

The water Nana Baruke invoked with her rain wasn’t simply a mass of spiritual particles like conventional rain, but the manifestation of an esoteric element.

A miraculous element.

"How is it here? Everything okay?" the doll asked while looking at the boy.

She had seen him collapse a few moments ago, so she was worried about him.

Hearing those words, Alioth remembered something.

Nora.

"Nora! That’s right," he exclaimed, agitated as he rushed toward the blonde.

Was she still alive?

Part of him wanted to believe she was still alive.

But another part of him knew no one could survive something like that.

Though fortunately, that second part was wrong.

"Huh?" the white-haired boy was surprised when suddenly a golden aura began to surround Nora.

Against all odds, the blonde-haired girl was recovering her power.

The scarlet and jade-colored spirits pulsed around her, as light began to surround the girl’s body.

Her body began to rise, floating in a mass of liquid golden energy.

Alioth saw how the wound the girl had on her chest closed, healing completely.

What was happening?

Alioth didn’t know, but the reason that phenomenon was occurring was because of Nora herself.

The priest was capable of cutting the connection between Nora’s divine authority and Nora herself.

However, there was something he couldn’t break, the promise she made.

She made a deal with Idris, or rather a promise.

She would become a heroine.

Her power was closely linked to that promise, and that moment was no exception.

That deal wasn’t something the priest could easily break, it was a promise.

In that world where words had power, such a promise became practically a law of nature.

The law was clear, if Nora behaved like a heroine her power would increase, if she broke those principles her power would vanish.

The moment she decided to defend Alioth she became a true heroine.

That sacrifice had been the definitive proof, she had used her own life to defend Alioth.

A sacrifice that drastically increased her "karma."

While the connection was cut, her "positive karma" had accumulated in large quantity, and when the connection finally returned, her power was released in a burst.

Her power returned like an overflowing river, regenerating that wound as if it had never existed.

Nora began to regain consciousness, as the divine power overflowing from her body began to crystallize around her in the form of armor.

Little by little a golden and silver armor surrounded the girl’s body, protecting her body.

Alioth couldn’t help but feel extremely grateful when he saw how Nora had recovered.

But then, the girl’s eyes shone, to direct her gaze at the priest.

The latter was coming out of the magma, confused by what had just happened.

"Tch, damn it, this rain is very annoying, but for your misfortune it won’t affect me again," the priest growled as soon the drops approaching him began to disappear.

It was as if he had an invisible barrier covering his body, erasing the water falling on him.

Alioth immediately remembered what that phenomenon was.

The priest was using "destructive frequencies" again to erase the arkhe that composed the raindrops.

The boy wondered internally how that frequency worked and if it could be applied to anything.

It was an interesting phenomenon to see.

"Now your little water won’t manage to damage me!" the man exclaimed with a smile. "Damn, really that witch likes to interfere in my plans, but if she thinks she’ll manage to stop me she’s very wrong! Her little dolls won’t be able to prevent me from bringing back my master."

Alioth raised an eyebrow.

Did Anansi know about that man?

Was she trying to stop him?

Alioth felt his stomach turn.

That meant if he had surrendered and given himself to that priest, he would have also hindered Anansi.

Alioth felt like shit, because of his cowardice he almost messed up his teacher’s plans.

How could he be so useless?

"Your master? Wasn’t your plan to bring the demon goddess of tyranny?" Nana Baruke asked with confusion.

The priest smiled amused.

"My whole plan centers on that! It’s my final objective," the man clarified with a twisted smile. "And there’s nothing you can do to sto—"

But before finishing his sentence, the man received a punch that sent him flying.

"Nora!" Alioth exclaimed, happy about her recovery.

Though he got no response.

"Tch, I suppose I’ll have to use more resources than I wanted to finish you off," the man said with annoyance.

Then, multiple light glows surrounded the three of them.

More chimeras appeared, though this time they looked much more ferocious.

Alioth felt he had returned to the beginning of the battle.

That battle seemed like it would never end.
