Lord of Myths: I Can Summon and Fuse Divine Powers.-Chapter 62: End of the Battle of the Hill. (2)
Multiple golden light glows shone intensely around Nora, Alioth and Nana Baruke.
Suddenly, a chilling silhouette was revealed in that light, and when the light completely vanished, the creatures in them were revealed.
They weren’t like the first chimeras the priest had summoned, they were larger and more imposing.
Some had lion bodies with reptile scales and a mane made of snakes.
Others were enormous and unnatural insects.
Alioth swallowed hard.
The situation was worsening, it was hard to know who would win the battle.
"Uaaaarg!" a voice then shouted.
It was Nora, who roared like an enraged beast as she jumped toward the priest with fury, completely ignoring those beasts.
Alioth felt worried about her, wondering if she had lost her mind.
But then one of the chimeras jumped on him, pulling him from his thoughts.
The boy raised his hands scared, after all at that moment he was completely unarmed.
He could only trust Nana Baruke to defend himself.
But it wasn’t water that protected him.
Suddenly the chimera’s shadow deformed and from it emerged a black bone, similar to that of a tail or spine.
That bone coiled around the chimera like a whip, stopping its movement.
Then Nana Baruke pointed at it with her umbrella and shot a whirlwind water jet that pierced the beast’s head and made its body explode.
"Seems Samedi has arrived," the woman said elegantly.
Alioth was surprised to hear that, Baron Samedi was there?
But then the answer was given to him.
His own shadow deformed, enlarging until forming a pool of liquid darkness beneath his feet.
Then, from that place a creature began to protrude.
It was a large and muscular being, with humanoid appearance and a deer skull.
When more chimeras jumped on them, the creature jumped upward at great speed to dodge them.
Alioth had to hold onto the creature’s horns.
More creatures began to emerge from the darkness, beings made of liquid darkness and bone, corpses returned to life that now fought against the chimeras.
As they fell, Alioth could see how in the distance Nora was fighting against the priest.
Actually it was hard to see them, they were so fast that the human eye would have difficulty capturing that movement.
Nora attacked with punches and kicks, and savage aggression.
The priest on the other hand created keter weapons and destroyed them trying to use them as an advantage against her.
Then finally the creature landed, piercing through the head of a chimera with a bull’s head, turtle body and scorpion tail.
Alioth saw how more creatures jumped toward the being, biting its limbs and trying to tear it apart.
The creature used its enormous strength to crush skulls and break necks, but was quickly overwhelmed by so many beasts.
Alioth swallowed hard.
"And my teacher isn’t going to come?" the boy asked with concern.
If there was anyone capable of defeating the priest it was Anansi, his teacher.
She was extremely powerful, and while Alioth hadn’t really witnessed all his teacher’s power, he knew that to create creatures as powerful as the Lwa she had to be also very skilled.
However, Nana Baruke shook her head.
"She won’t come unfortunately," the Lwa said while shooting a water jet at a beast trying to reach them. "She stayed in the city, there’s a very great danger there."
The doll explained while creating a water shield to stop a flare sent by one of the chimeras.
Alioth swallowed hard, he knew the Lwa were very powerful and capable.
However, that priest seemed like a true final Boss, and it wasn’t so clear who would win.
Then a great shockwave caught his attention.
A clash of fists between the priest and Nora.
She was holding on like a champion.
Her golden armor seemed to have empowered her quite a bit.
Alioth was impressed.
When he arrived at the hill, Nora had fought against five people at once and had managed to survive and cause them quite a bit of damage.
It was true, when he saw her she was a mess, but she recovered and kept fighting.
Alioth had managed to take care of the large part of enemies, had fought for hours and had recovered from mortal damage multiple times.
They had even managed to survive death, to return stronger than ever.
Without doubt she was holding on a long time in that battle, unlike him who had given up several times throughout the combat.
He had lost all his allies, which was ironic because it also meant he was nobody on his own.
He depended on spirits to be able to fight.
However, Nora didn’t need any of that, just her faith and will to keep fighting.
Alioth saw how Nora was learning from combat.
The priest used tricks and techniques with weapons and his arms, thus managing to land much damage on Nora.
However, those tricks didn’t work twice, she learned and moved forward, while continuing to evolve.
The complete opposite of Alioth, who as soon as he encountered an obstacle or received a blow gave up immediately.
Why hadn’t he fought?
Why when the priest extended his hand didn’t he spit on it?
Even if he had no chance of winning, why had he given up again?
His self-pity had weakened him.
His lack of pride had allowed him to give up, because he had lost hope in everything.
He had embraced mediocrity like a loser.
But Nora?
She moved forward, kept fighting even if the enemy surpassed her in strength or skill.
She didn’t give up, that’s why she was so strong.
But Alioth, he did nothing, comfortable in his own self-pity.
Even at that moment he was doing it, settling into his little ocean of mediocrity.
"No, not anymore," the boy said to himself.
He didn’t want to continue like this, didn’t want to remain this pathetic.
However, what could he do?
He had already summoned a fire colossus, and had failed.
It was clear he wasn’t going to achieve anything more effective than that.
"No, I must remove that thought, I can do it, even if I only contribute a grain of sand! A little is better than nothing," he said to himself with determination.
Suddenly, he heard it.
How the Ished tree began to grow in his mind, expand in his perception, a simple illusion that could unite fantasy and reality at one point.
Alioth didn’t hesitate for a second, as soon as he saw that name on the leaf, he knew it was the right one.
"[Wendigo]," he said with courage, as the leaf began to fall slowly onto the creature he was mounted on.
Upon coming into contact with it, Alioth heard how the gears of destiny began to turn.
Again, his strange power had worked.
"What are you doing, Alioth?" Nana Baruke asked with confusion, while creating a water saw to shred a chimera trying to reach them. "Tch, I think our ’mount’ won’t hold much longer."
The number of chimeras didn’t stop increasing, the scene had become a river of beasts that devoured everything in their path.
However, then, that shadow creature that was beginning to be overwhelmed by the chimeras, began to elongate.
Its arms and legs began to stretch, thinner, sharper.
Suddenly its broad torso began to thin, until its ribs protruded.
"WRRRRYYYYYY!" the beast shrieked, as it threw itself backward and raised its arms violently, throwing the chimeras through the air.
However, that gesture also made Alioth fall to the ground.
The beast had become more aggressive. More violent.
Perhaps he hadn’t made the best choice?
Alioth stood up sore, while Nana Baruke created a water shield around him to protect from the chimeras.
The white-haired boy wondered if he had done wrong in using that name, he was slightly regretful.
But then, he began to see how the Wendigo began to aggressively massacre the chimeras.
It attacked violently, opening the creatures with its own hands and tearing out their guts to then devour them.
Alioth swallowed hard, scared of his own creation, but at least it had been useful.
"What was that? Did you do it?" Nana Baruke asked with surprise, as she turned to see Alioth.
The boy nodded somewhat nervously.
"Yes, something like that," Alioth said with some nervousness, as he scratched the back of his neck.
The doll seemed surprised by the boy’s words, who didn’t have ka to do magic.
"Really? How?" the Lwa questioned while looking at him through her eyes made with buttons.
Alioth nodded again.
"Yes, but it’s a long story and this isn’t the moment for that kind of discussion," the boy affirmed trying to drop the subject.
How could he explain he had the ability to crystallize myths from another world if not even he was sure of the nature of his power?
Nana Baruke nodded, agreeing that situation wasn’t the most ideal for chatting.
The shockwaves from the priest and Nora’s fight kept sounding, as did the unpleasant sound of flesh being torn under the unleashed bestiality of the Wendigo.
The darkness beings kept resisting, killing more chimeras while they talked.
"You’re right, it’s not the time to be chatting," she affirmed. "Besides, he’s arriving, and seems angry, I think it’s time to end this."
Alioth raised an eyebrow.
Who was she referring to?
Wasn’t Baron Samedi already with them?
The sky thundered with force.
Alioth didn’t know what was coming, but from Nana Baruke’s confidence, surely it would be something bad for the priest.
