Chapter 142: Chapter 143 Bloodstain 2

"Be careful."

Iris Harris didn’t respond. She pushed away Brandan Hyde’s hand and walked towards the bathroom with her head down.

Brandan watched her back, lightly pressing his lips together. As he withdrew his gaze, the sight of crimson on the back of his hand made him pause in surprise.

Blood?

************************

In the bathroom, Iris Harris covered her nose, but droplets of bright red blood kept seeping through her fingers.

She turned on the faucet, continuously rinsing her fingers. Large drops of blood dripped from her nasal passage, then diluted into a pale pink by the water stream.

The illness had worsened overnight.

Perhaps due to the weakened state from her injury, her coagulation disorder had become more pronounced.

She felt a little dizzy; she had lost too much blood yesterday and today. She wasn’t sure if it was mild concussion or blood loss, but her entire body felt weak.

Finally managing to stop the bleeding, Iris let out a slight sigh of relief, only to hear Brandan knocking on the door outside: "Iris, are you okay?"

"..." Iris really didn’t want to answer him, but she was afraid he would come in now, so she muttered sullenly, "I’m fine. Don’t come in."

She vigorously washed her face, cleaning off all traces of blood. She didn’t want Brandan to notice these signs; she didn’t need his pity or sympathy. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Anyway, he couldn’t save her, no one could save her.

She didn’t need anyone’s rescue.

She had enough of this kind of life; losing it wouldn’t be regrettable in any way.

Iris stayed in the bathroom for a full half hour.

The sound of water was constant in the bathroom, and Brandan stood at the door unable to hear what she was doing inside.

He looked down at the crimson blood stain on the back of his hand. He knew it was from Iris, but where was she hurt? How could she be bleeding?

His heart was racing with anxiety, yet he dared not go in and risk making her angry. Brandan never thought he would ever find himself so helpless.

The door to the bathroom opened with a "whoosh."

Seeing him, Iris seemed a bit surprised and asked, "Why are you still here?"

Brandan looked at her moist face, wondering if it was just his imagination, but he felt that Iris’s face seemed even paler.

"Are you..." Brandan slightly pressed his lips together, asking in a low voice, "hurt somewhere?"

Iris glanced at him, seemingly dismissive of the question, and then slightly frowned: "No."

With that, she turned sideways, brushing past him and heading out the door.

Brandan watched her frail back, frowning slightly. He didn’t leave but went into the bathroom instead.

The sink area was spotless, leaving no trace behind. His eyes roamed the bathroom, unsure of what he was trying to find, but certain something awaited his discovery.

Suddenly, his gaze settled on the tiled floor.

He crouched down to look at the streak of red liquid.

He raised his hand, gently touched it, then bent down to sniff.

Blood.

Perhaps Iris had missed this spot. She had cleaned off all other blood traces but hadn’t noticed the blood droplets on the floor.

Brandan stared at the red on his fingertip, his mind buzzing and going blank all at once.

He was terrified, yet couldn’t pinpoint why. When he finally stood up, he even felt cold sweat on his back.

She was hurt, bleeding, but he didn’t know where she was injured or what was going on?

Brandan looked down at the blood droplets on the tiles, picked up the showerhead, and washed away the blood stains. His complexion faintly pale.
