Chapter 38: Werewolf Facts

After they had eaten for the night Leo returned back to his room and smiled a bit, seeing the home he called his again filled him with great joy.

What perhaps gave him the most how was his bed which looked like it had never been slept on, he could barely remember what it felt like to sleep on one. But he remembered the spell it had, able to put him to sleep in seconds when the futon he had in glory base could not.

There was the familiar work desk he had situated right to the window he always liked to keep wide open, there was also a small shelf of books. A closer and a bathroom.

Coming back here every time felt almost like a dream, he could still remember when he would sit right next to the window and do his homeworks.

Gone were those days.

Leo threw his bag on the bed and found his way down to the bath where he quickly stripped down and engulfed his body in the luxury of warm water running down his back.

It was amazing how something so easily accessible to the world as warm water felt like a piece of heaven to him. The only people he knew who had a semblance of such luxury were the military surge alliance.

Leo would have stayed there and feel his body melt under the comfort but he knew he had to deny himself even this small peace. He walked out of the bath and goth a change of cloth, all things considered it took a while to find a pair of pyjamas that fit him. It was a soft shade of blue and checkered black squares.

He had forgotten that he still had some old clothes in there, some he never even used since he became a superhuman.

Still the feeling of being in his pyjamas was heaven in it self.

A soft knock sounded on his door in the familiar rhythm he knew so well, he smiled slightly and said in a loud voice. "My abode is open to you my fair lady." He watched the door open to reveal a beautiful young girl with twin pitails wearing a pink pyjama with cherries on it. He gave a dutiful bow causing her to giggle.

"You talk funny big bro", she said as she tried to stop laughing and shut the door behind him. "I’m all over princesses now."

Leo stood upright and gave her a look of deep surprise, "Oh really? I thought you’d still be into it, I guess I really did miss a lot this year."

He could feel his heart welling from uncontrolled happiness just seeing her feel happy at him mere presence.

In that moment of warmth nothing about Hellscape or the title of the "peerless loser" surfaced in his mind. The voices that always forced him to go the extra mile kept quiet and his mind was quiet for once.

Trish spoke in her sweet voice, "I’m all about K-pop now." She made a gesture he suggested was either a dance or a swagger.

Maybe it was both.

Leo raised a questioning eyebrow, "What’s that?"

She threw herself on his bed and pointed to one of the comics lying on his work desk he read as a child which he picked up and handed to her.

"It’s a boy band thing, it’s really cool and everyone likes it. Well it’s better than than infernal 6-7 meme everyone keeps going on about."

Leo listened to her talk as he walked over to his work desk and pulled his wooden chair to seat. He opened one of the drawers and took out his old laptop, he booted it and entered his password which he was surprised he got on the fourth or fifth try.

Trish flipped through the comic book as she divided her attention between it and him, "What’cha doing?" She asked with deep interest.

"Checking something out", he replied as he took out the storage ring from his pocket to summon the drive that had been left behind there.

Seeing this Trish’s face widened filling with stars and sparkles. "You got engaged?"

Leo fumbled for a bit, almost dropping the ring in the process before he said in his defense. "What, no. Why would you think such a thing? It’s a storage ring."

His sister opened her mouth wide in shock and said, "Uh-huh, does it really let you put things in it."

Leo simply slipped it over one of his fingers and willed the drive to appear in his hands, which it did in a few seconds after it materialised from the sparks of gold light.

"Cool huh?" He looked back to find her lying upside down on his bed with the comic book held above her head.

"Meh." She said without any hint of interest.

His jaw dropped, "What do you mean ’meh’, don’t you know how cool your big brother is?"

"Oh! I know." She responded so quickly making it impossible for him to tell if she really meant it or whether it was sarcasm.

Either way he turned to the laptop before him and plugged the drive into it. He received a notification from his laptop seconds later to access it.

The moment he approved the command the screen of his laptop turned into a light show, flashing erratically for several seconds till it simply went off and refused to come back on again.

Leo did his best to restore life to his old friend but nothing worked, even banging on it failed. He let out a loud groan, ’You have got to be kidding me.’

He looked back over his shoulder to find Trish stealing glances at him and giggling in amusement.

He smiled and thought to himself, ’She seems happy I’m suffering. But how the hell am I supposed to know what’s on the damned drive now?’

His eyes fell on another drawer which he opened and pulled out his smartphone, the device he used to obsess over now seemed like a relic of a forgotten era.

He turned it on and quickly went online and searched one word "werewolf".

His phone instantly came alive with several notifications entering al at once, some were from old school friends, others seemed like banks and business deals. He ignored them all and watched the results of his search turn up.

He has doubted that he would find anything on the subject online but to his surprise he did find something and he did not know whether to feel relieved or frightened.

It seemed that there were many interesting topics around the said subject.

Some believed that werewolves were messengers of the devil sent to punish the sinners. Other believed that they were simply chaos bringers going on about senselessly butchering people for the mere pleasure of it. There were other rumours that suggested that werewolves were gods themselves who came down in human form to turn hunting humans to a sport.

As troubling as most of the information surrounding the subject went they were more decent than what he found next.

After several minutes of scrolling Leo came to a rather perversive side of the internet having to do with werewolves having and mates. It was a full blown romantic religious following of the subject, repulsive enough to make him want to barf.
