Chapter 56: A Strange Mystery

Entering the abandoned grounds of the club, Leo’s nose twitched at the smell of blood. He nearly gagged just as he stepped into the club, this drew the attention of Roxy who shot him a side glance.

"Are you okay, schmuck?" She asked with a hint of concern laced in her voice.

He shook of the feeling and tried not to breath too deeply, "There blood up ahead, we better be careful."

"You can smell that?" She asked but did not say anything further. She instead continued to walk deeper into the club till they reached the main room where they could see a huge man standing in the way-- almost like he had been expecting them.

Mr Neuman’s bodyguard looked at them and scowled. "You’re late, everyone’s already been moved to the main mansion. The boss ordered me to wait for you two."

Leo walked forwards and confronted the huge man with cold eyes and spoke, "I need to see the bodies, before you cover it up or whatever it is you’re going to do to them."

The bodyguard looked at him for a brief moment before leading the way into the main club, and to the room where he had faced off against a number of awakened superhumans the day before.

"We don’t know how but the monster came and attacked the two awakened who were stationed on guard for the night. The boss was forced to move out."

Leo saw the two bodies, they were both male and currently had their bodies torn apart violently in an inhumane manner. They were bathed in their own blood that was already turning dark and dry, their faces were heavily damaged almost like they had been clawed open by something sharp. Their eyes had also been taken from their sockets, Leo was left stunned by the sight for several seconds.

"Truly horrifying someone had a real slaughter fest here", Roxy remarked with a crooked smile. "It’s so bad I don’t even want to look at it."

Mr Neuman’s bodyguard said in a low disgruntled voice, "We should get moving now, wouldn’t want to keep the boss waiting."

They all turned to leave only to notice Leo still standing behind them, his eyes watching the corpses with great fervour. Roxy called out to him, "Hey schmuck, let’s head out of here. I’m not a fan of dead people." She froze as she stared at his face, it almost looked like he was salivating over the corpses-- but that couldn’t be true, right?

A second later Leo came to his senses and walked even closer to the corpses, he tried his best to fight against the urge to tear into corpses and devour them. He had to remind himself that he was a human and not a monster.

He almost gasped as all of a sudden felt a strange sense that he could find out what really happened there, he turned back to glance at the other two living people in the room, ’I’m human, but also the closest to a monster.’ He told himself as he looked back at the scene in a new light.

He had not wondered why he never thought of it before, but according to the net werewolves were monsters in stories. There was an entire culture centered around them, and from his own experience he knew how inhuman his senses could be. So perhaps he was the best bet to find a monster.

"Can I have a minute?" He asked in a cold voice.

Roxy almost laughed. "What are you now, Sherlock bloody Holmes?"

Leo craned his head back slightly and looked over at the man standing by the entrance in utter silence, "If I find something useful, it might help reduce any further body count."

The bodyguard said nothing for a few seconds before giving him a nod, they both knew that having a larger body count would eventually bring a lot of trouble to Mr Neuman. Besides Leo was sure he was the only one who could find Hinata before she killed someone again.

Roxy groaned loudly to show her discomfort as she approached him, "I knew it, you just had to stick your bloody nose in dead body business."

Leo frowned at her, "If it bothers you that much, leave. I need enough silence to focus."

She softened a bit and sighed heavily. "What on earth are you looking for then?"

Leo looked back at the bodies and tried to block out the enticing smell that emanated from it. "I’ll know when I find it."

She groaned again and turned to face the bodyguard, "Hey, gorilla man. You got a lighter on you?" He looked at her but said nothing. "Please it’s urgent, if I don’t smoke I get all jittery."

Leo watched him toss her a lighter causing him to groan internally.

’Where does she get the gall to lie to everyone? And what’s with the names?’

Leo used more than an hour to study the two corpses, he would have used much less had he not been battling with his beastial instincts that threatened to go out of control.

[Warning! Your senses have been overwhelmed]

[Your chances of entering a state of extreme bloodlust has risen drastically]

It was the third time he was seeing this message appear before him since he started his search for answers.

It would have taken a lot more of his willpower to control himself had he not been given a partner who would come up with the craziest thing to say every few seconds or so.

The distraction was good enough to keep his mind focused for a while.

"Find anything interesting?" The bodyguard asked in a deep voice. Leo could tell he wanted them to return to his master as soon as possible, after all who would want to spend their day around dead bodies?

However Leo was still not sure about what he had found out, the wounds were deadly but looked like they had been done by a monster-- or they were meant to seem like that.

He rose to his feet and walked to a sliggtly higher ground to observe the entirety of the club, he tried to picture what had happened. Of course there was no way he could know for sure but he had found something else that threw him into a world of confusion.

After flooding his nose with the series of smells for about an hour he started to notice that not all smells were the same. Since he had only trained his advanced hearing and never his sense of smell he never noticed it, but now he did.

He could faintly smell something different, aside from the two dead bodies there seemed to be a struggle of sorts. Like other scents conflicting with the ones that died. Leo could tell that ghey had been killed at almost the same time but they were a couple of feet apart, if that was so one of them would have bled a trail before he collapsed away from his companion. But there was nothing that supported that claim.

Instead it looked like they had bled out at almost the same time meaning they had been killed on the spot. Leo had being faced with his fair share of battles from fate but he had never heard of two awakened being killed at the same time by one opponent.

It was hard for him know exactly since many people had already gone through the same entrance filling the room with a mess of scents, however he could pick up the faint scent of not one but two different people who had been in contact with the corpses.

Since he was not adept in his sense of smell he could not tell the time and person but they stood out, simply due to the fact that they carried a scent that was not entirely human.

A new web of questions spiralled in his head, but he eventually walked up to the bodyguard drawing Roxy’s bored eyes to him, "We can go now, but can you please tell me all you know about Hinata’s relationship with Melissa."

The guard nodded slowly before turning and leading the way to the car that would convey them to Mr Neuman’s mansion. On the way out he asked in a grim tone, "What did you find?"

Leo could feel Roxy’s eyes on him seeking answers, he had noticed she had kept quiet for a while now which was unlike her. He almost felt persuaded to place her as a suspect, he cleared his throat and spoke. "I can’t say for sure but I don’t think the monster is the only one of your problems."

With the release of those few words, the air grew colder and more grim.

Leo himself was not entirely positive of it but he knew of a certainty that this was not the work of a monster, this was simply due to the fact that there was no blood however that indicated a third party was involved.

The blood that decorated the club room where they had found the bodies belonged to those two and none other.

In a room where there was much space to maneuver around, the two awakened would have never lost to a single opponent without drawing blood. But if it were two opponents that was a different story, still why was it that there was no other trace of blood of another party. Did that mean the supposed two opponents did not shed blood? Did that even make any sense?
