Lunar Awakening-Chapter 61: It’s Gonna Be A Long Night (3)
Inside the room was a massive beautiful space bathed in gold, there was a massive king-sized bed in the middle with red curtains hung up on it.
Seated on the edge of the bed were two figures, Mr Neuman holding on to his daughter Melissa who seemed to be fast asleep. The poor girl looked tired and feeble. Standing by both sides of the bed were the chief body guard who Leo was somewhat accustomed to and the nanny who always seemed to follow Melissa everywhere she went.
Scattered across the huge bedroom were three other awakened, one inspecting shelves and drawers out of sheer boredom. Another simply sitting on chairs doing nothing but staring at the ceiling. One of them was practically fighting the urge to doze off where he stood. Leo could not help but feel they would be the final stand if anything were to happen to the awakened outside.
He looked to the side to see a huge mural of the Neuman family on the wall, on it Mr Neuman was standing right behind two beautiful young woman, the first was Hinata or-- was supposed to be the human version of her. That part of the mural had been ripped out, leaving being the image of Mr Neuman holding on to his last surviving daughter. There were visible signs of the mural being torn by claws, it made him gulp down nervously.
Leo did not want to imagine what would happen if they perhaps failed to save Melissa.
His eyes fell on the huge mirror in a corner of the room, he caught sight of his reflection on it and stared at the other figure in silence. He looked pale and sickly, his hair rough, his featured jagged. What did stick out to him most of all were his eyes, they were sharp and deadly almost like that of a wild animal.
He had some thoughts that started to trouble him in that moment. He hoped his violent tendencies would not spike now that he was agitated, another thing that bothered him was Xavax who had not said or done anything in a long time. But Leo shook off the thoughts, he had to deal with the problem before him at the moment.
Time went by rather slowly as everywhere fell quiet, it almost felt like waiting for something that was never going to happen. Every breath and every buzzing fly could be heard with perfect precision, nobody within the room spoke a single word for several hours. Most of them even hoped that the monster they were waiting for would be gunned down at the gate before she could even reach them.
But they doubted that, this was somewhere she was familiar with after all. In a way it was like stepping into enemy territory.
Midnight soon came after several long hours that threatened to turn to days, then just like that the silence broke.
The sound of a machine gun being emptied into the air somewhere on the mansion grounds was heard. Everybody perked up, their senses sharper than ever. The sound of raining bullets continued for several minutes then, screaming followed-- painful horrifying sounds that did not sound like they had come from human vocal cords.
Melissa shivered visibly as she jerked awake, she held on tight to Mr Neuman. No one said anything however, not to comfort the young girl or offer her safety. After several long minutes of neverending screams that stretched forever and inhuman wails, the world fell to a sudden silence. A silence that filled them with so much dread their hearts tightened.
Leo tried to keep his mind in check as his senses threatened to go out of control again. The sudden silence was a good thing already, it gave him a few seconds to breath again and try to calm the rising tension in his body. It also passed a message that either the monster was dead or everyone else was dead.
Whichever one he chose to believe did not matter, if Hinata was still alive she would be in a terrible shape. The awakened stationed outside would be able to deal with her with ease, if nothing he would get through the night without doing anything.
The chief guard picked up his phone in a hurry to call the camera crew but there was no response from the other end.
Leo’s ears however perked up as they grew by a centimeter, he could hear every sound in the room with perfect precision. Every heartbeat and every breath, but more troubling was the sound of what seemed to be claws scraping wood.
At first it sounded distant but then it grew closer till it was close enough to tell that it was not from outside the room. Another of the awakened also picked up on this because she was much closer to the source of the sound itself.
The female awakened turned and looked at the lone mirror standing in a corner of the room, her eyes widened up in confusion. "Does anyone else hear that?" No one answered her, no one wanted to, they were just as surprised as she was.
The female awakened took a step closer to the mirror and observed it for a bit before looking back and saying in a grim tone. "It stopped."
Looking back had been the biggest mistake she had and would ever make in her life, Leo would have warned her but it was already too late for that.
The glass exploded into millions of fragmented shards from the inside out as a claw smashed through it and reached for her neck from the darkness, it slashed through her neck sending thick streams of blood staining the beautiful tiled ground.
The female awakened staggered forward as her eyes grew wide with shock, her throat gurgled out blood as she held it with her hand-- desperately trying to stop the flow. Eventually she slumped down towards the ground and created a pool of crimson beneath her.
All of Leo’s senses heightened at the scent of blood, causing him to give a low gutteral growl.
He knew it, as did everyone in the room.
A long bloody night had begun.
