Lunar Awakening-Chapter 60: It’s Gonna Be A Long Night (2)
After an extensive briefing and breakdown of their plans for the night, the group disbanded to their duty posts. The night just had only just begun and they could feel the tension in the air, palpable and cold.
Mr Neuman and his daughter would stay in a room that would be guarded on the inside by four awakened superhumans including Leo himself. They were meant to be the very last line of defense if things became their worst.
On the outside of the room was a large singular hall where the remaining six awakened superhumans would stand guard if any danger was to come through the mansion.
All around the mansion grounds were a number of armed guards patrolling the grounds and preventing anyone from breaching into the mansion. Every part of the formation was well thought out and with a media team on standby, giving call outs on every movement they found on security cameras.
That was the basic arrangement for the night, however they did not know if Hinata would show up but they suspected it was more likely. To Leo having such a level of protection against a single enemy was a bit overcautious, but then pagain Mr Neuman was rich and it would be foolish not to spend a ample amount of that money trying to keep his only remaining daughter safe.
Leo also had an inkling that Hinata while she was still a sane living person knew of their current location. So in other words they were setting a trap for the monster, Leo could tell that they were all ready to kill her. He found the confidence almost intoxicating, however he was still left sceptical over one matter. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"It’s gonna be boring without you here, schmuck." Roxy’s snarky voice reached out to him.
They were currently standing by the entrance to the room where Melissa and her father was currently kept in and all of those stationed to guard them inside had already gone in. Leo looked at Roxy for a few short seconds and said nothing. He doubted he would miss her sarcastic personality when he went in. According to the arrangement made, she would be stationed outside the room instead of inside with him. Leo wondered if this had to do with her ability or due to some other reason but he has little to no influence over this.
He leaned in closer to her and spoke in a hushed tone. "I want you to listen very carefully, remember when I said those two awakened might have been killed by some other person?" He felt her body tense up slightly as she replied— "Somewhat."
He made a slight gesture in a particular direction without making it obvious to anyone aside from her. "I picked two scents on those corpses, those two fit the bill."
Roxy’s eyes shifted slightly as she looked to her side to see two awakened, a light skinned man and a tall dark woman. They looked almost lifeless and cold, the air that resonated around them was unsettling. Roxy whispered back into his ears in a low, measured tone. "You mean Kriss and Sharma? I met them on the first day, they are a couple of douchbags and by couples I mean the kind that make out. You think they killed those other two?"
Leo did not know why but something smelt foul about them, it was almost like they were rotten but that did not make any sense. How could a living person smell rotten, unless peehaps-- they were not living anymore. Leo’s eyes darkened atut that thought, "I don’t know if they did it, but there’s something not right about them. I can’t explain right now but I want you to trust me."
Roxy scoffed, "Look who’s talking about trust."
Leo could not force her to believe him, he hardly believed himself but he had at least made an effort. "Just be careful, Roxy." Saying this he walked past her and towards the room.
Roxy stood there for a second in stunned silence, her eyes softened for a moment almost like something within had had been stirred. Leo continued to walk away unbothersd, she watched his back shift slightly almost like it was weighed down by something. She opened her mouth to speak only to close it back almost immediately. A second later she opened her mouth again, and spoke this time.
"It’s gonna be a long night schmuck, if we don’t die gruesome deaths I’ll take you out for BBQ." She said after him before she let her gaze settle back down on the two he had pointed out.
Just as Leo was about to open the door before him, the huge awakened from earlier stood before him and spoke in a dark, dismal tone. "Listen boy, I don’t know why the rich prick favours you and I honestly don’t care. It just pisses me that you weaklings get to lay off inside while we do all the hard work."
Leo would have normally overlooked this but for some reason he was feeling especially agitated. It was like he had a swarm of fire ants crawling all over his skin, the only other time he had felt this was on the night he first transformed back in Hellscape.
’Dammit, why am I feeling so agitated?’ He told himself but somehow he did not feel perturbed by it.
It was the first time Leo felt his blood boil in an unusual way. He had always been put in this situation, he was usually the one hunting his prey since back when he had been a dormant human. So in a way maybe he had always been an omega. Still he hated having to wait while an enemy would strike from an unknown location, he wondered why he felt like this.
Could it be because he was afraid of not having things under his control as he always likes, or perhaps it was due to the fact that he was afraid because he felt he was weak. Leo tried his best not to focus on all these thoughts and face Flint.
"If you have any problems with me take it to customer care." Leo said as he pushed his way past the big man which took some significant effort. Leo tried as much as possible to be level headed.
The huge man chuckled and said before Leo could leave. "If that bitch comes, I doubt you will live through this."
Leo said nothing more as he walked into the room and shut the door behind him.
