Chapter 52: Chapter 52

Winter busied herself in the finance department.

As both the company’s owner and an experienced accounting manager, she meticulously reviewed all the data given by the finance department’s head.

Humming softly, she audited the budget for the past year, noting the blend of Aiden’s budget allocations and also an incumbency for six months after his death before Sebastian took over.

She noticed that Sebastian was far bolder in his approach than Aiden, which was for a good reason: he tried to save a stagnating company that would be doomed to fail for the next two years if he didn’t make a breakthrough.

The head of finance wiped the cold sweat on his forehead.

He might’ve been a scary boss to his employees, but he was nothing in front of Madam Winter. After all, this powerful woman was the boss’s wife. She could get him fired in less than a second.

"H-how is it, Madam? Is there anything wrong with the report?" he asked nervously.

"Nothing wrong, I’m just checking the company’s financial status after my husband’s death," Winter said. "But you must be prepared for overtime soon because I’ll propose an idea to the CEO."

The head of finance was relieved but also perplexed with how Madam Winter worded her sentence.

It was as if she saw Mr. Sebastian Saenz—the current CEO—as a mere coworker while referring to the late Aiden Kirk as her real husband.

’I think she hasn’t moved on yet,’ he guessed. But he quickly dispelled the idea since it wasn’t his problem.

"I’ll bring this report to the CEO. You can continue your work as usual," Winter said before she stood up and left.

She walked through the finance department floor and noticed the eyes of the employees staring at her like she was an exotic animal. ’Most of them were probably confused about my identity. Since I rarely came to the office back then,’ she mused.

Winter had been too comfortable with her life as a homemaker after she married Aiden, so it was quite nerve-racking to be back in this environment.

Clutching the report tightly in her hand, she made her way to the elevator and headed to the CEO’s office on the top floor.

However, the moment the VIP elevator door opened, she saw Cindy standing in the middle, wearing a tight red skirt that accentuated her figure and a thin white blouse that could give you a glimpse of the red bra she was wearing. She had her red hair in a ponytail and wore glasses, even though she didn’t have an eye problem.

Winter and Cindy exchanged gazes for a while. Both were stunned by each other’s appearance, and for a good reason, at least on Winter’s part.

Cindy smiled sweetly at her sister and asked, "Are you going up too, sis? Let’s go!"

Cindy grabbed Winter’s hand and pulled her into the elevator. They went up together, and there was nothing but a dead silence between them in that elevator.

Honestly, Winter was unsure how to handle his sister.

Did she still feel the family bond with Cindy? Perhaps.

After all, Cindy hadn’t done anything yet in this life.

But it was already obvious what would happen next, especially seeing how she dressed like a slut just to seduce Sebastian.

"Why don’t you tell me what’s on your mind, sis," Cindy said lightly. "You’ve been staring at me for a while now."

"I didn’t," Winter replied curtly.

"Oh, you’re so funny, Winter. Don’t you realize this elevator has mirrors on both sides? Of course, I can see that you’re judging how I dress now. Those judgey eyes wouldn’t make you any cuter, sis."

Winter had been trying to be polite so as not to incite a fight with Cindy, but this woman was trying to taunt her.

"Please don’t mind my language then," Winter said as she pointed out the obvious, "Why are you dressed like a street whore?"

"Street whore? You mean a sexy secretary, right?" Cindy pouted, but she wasn’t angry at all.

In fact, she was happy seeing how her sister wasn’t happy with her style. In Cindy’s mind, Winter’s disagreement was an obvious sign of competition.

’She must’ve felt threatened because she knows she’s getting old and saggy,’ Cindy had a small triumph in her mind, but she didn’t show it in front of Winter.

"Sexy secretary is not part of the company’s dress code. You should’ve known it’s common sense to dress modestly at work," Winter reprimanded her sister, but Cindy didn’t listen.

"Geez, no need to be so uptight, grandma. I’m just trying out new clothes. It’s a new style, you know," Cindy giggled. "Besides, it’s a good fit for me, right? I think red is my favorite color, just like my bra. It’s R-E-D, baby!"

"I don’t know if you can stay in this company with this kind of attitude, Cindy," Winter continued to reprimand her to no avail. "Maybe I should just let you go so you can return to junior high school and learn etiquette."

"Yeah, yeah, keep yapping. I know that you’re jealous," Cindy rolled her eyes. "Besides, I don’t need your permission to stay in this company. I know that you don’t have any power here. It’s all in Sebastian’s control, right? He’s the CEO, not you."

Winter didn’t rebuke her sister’s claim, knowing that Cindy’s ignorance could be her advantage.

Meanwhile, Cindy got even more confident after seeing that Winter didn’t try to deny it, "Hah, as expected. So I don’t need to listen to your threat, Winter. As long as Sebastian gives me permission, you can do nothing about it, right?"

Again, Winter didn’t respond, and her silence was a yes for Cindy.

"Well, I got my answer now. So don’t try to lecture me again, alright?" Cindy smiled. "We both know that you feel threatened, sis. I mean, for a good reason, because you are ten years older than Sebastian, right? Oh, you creepy cradle robber. You really shouldn’t have crossed the line."
