Chapter 57: Chapter 57

Cindy’s acting intensified as she began to cry her heart out, like a little girl who had been wronged. She repeatedly wiped her tears while glancing at Sebastian, hoping he would finally look at her.

Fortunately, her wish came true as Sebastian slowly shifted his gaze back to Cindy. But there was no smile on his face.

"Did my wife say that?" Sebastian asked. "Because I’m not sure if she can be so cunning."

"Yes!" Cindy nodded emphatically to appear more convincing. She pointed at Winter and added, "I don’t know what’s wrong with her, but she tried to pit me against Iris, even though we are on good terms. Iris helps me familiarize myself with the work, too!"

Of course, Sebastian didn’t believe what she was saying. He already knew about her viciousness from his previous life.

But before he shut her down for the second time, he checked Winter first and saw that his wife was astonished by Cindy’s illogical claim.

Sebastian smirked as he wanted to know what Winter would say, then improvised, "Did you do that, wife?"

Winter snapped out of her daze when Sebastian addressed her.

She was genuinely shocked by Cindy’s claim, not expecting her sister, the one she had raised since Cindy was just five years old, to be so crafty and create such lie to get herself out of a sticky situation. She had an urge to give Cindy an applause and A+ for effort.

Of course, Winter could just deny everything, but what proof did she have to counter her claim? In the end, nobody could prove Cindy was lying since only two were in the elevator before.

’If only she used this craftiness for something better. She could be a good actress or maybe a lawyer. I could’ve helped her get the best job. It’s sad she chose to use her talent to seduce a married man,’ Winter regretted. ’Maybe the failure is on my side too. Though, I’m not sure where I went wrong in teaching her.’

Winter didn’t have time to lament what Cindy had become. She wanted to forgive her because she had a strong sentimental attachment to the girl she raised.

Unfortunately, everything Cindy did only made it harder for Winter to forgive her.

"What do you say, sis? Just be honest and tell everyone you are trying to make me fight with Iris!" Cindy yelled as if she was at her wit’s end.

Winter grinned and nodded. "Yes, I admit. So what?"

Winter’s answer astonished everyone, including Cindy, who hadn’t expected Winter to admit to something she hadn’t done.

"D-did you actually say that, Winter?" Iris asked. She knew Winter well enough to know that she wasn’t a backstabber.

But she was unsure of what was happening inside Winter’s head.

"Yes, I told Cindy that you hate her and you want her to be out of the office as soon as possible," Winter said coldly while staring at her sister without blinking. "So, what now? What will you do, Cindy?"

"I-t-that—"Cindy was caught off guard by Winter’s answer. Winter looked so calm, as if she had admitted to a grave crime without shame. "T-that means you’re not a good woman. You’re vicious! I can’t believe my sister would do this to me!"

Cindy turned to Sebastian and said, "Look at your wife, Sebastian. She’s a snake who can betray her sister! She will also betray you too!"

"Then what do you want me to do?" Sebastian asked. His expression had turned stormy. A vein popped out on his forehead. But he held on to his emotions strongly.

"Y-you should divorce her!" Cindy proposed, realizing she had no way out. "You need to divorce her because she’ll be a poison to you!"

"I will never divorce her," Sebastian said firmly.

"B-but she has nothing on her! She’s not smart, not useful, and she can’t bear your child!"

SLAM!

Cindy’s heart jumped when Sebastian suddenly slammed the desk and stood up.

Sebastian looked at Cindy as if looking at an insignificant ant.

"M-Mr. Saenz?" Cindy was too scared to call him Sebastian, especially when he towered over her with such contemptuous gaze.

Sebastian had been patient enough to entertain this woman because he thought Winter must’ve been planning something. But this was where he drew the line.

"Get out." Sebastian said with gritted teeth. But Cindy kept that stupid look on her face.

Cindy began trembling with fear. She didn’t know what she had done to anger Sebastian so much.

"B-but I just want to help you. You need to know that woman won’t give you anything."

"GET OUT!"

Cindy shrieked as the fear finally crept inside her. She never expected the gentlemanly Sebastian to yell at her.

Cindy began to cry for real this time. "Y-you’re cruel, Sebastian!"

She ran out of the office with her face soaked in tears. She intentionally tried to bump into Winter’s shoulder to hurt her, but Winter simply stepped aside and allowed Cindy to leave.

Cindy halted, glared at her sister, and yelled, "I’ll tell Mom about this, you freak!"

Winter ignored her and watched as Cindy ran towards the elevator and left immediately. freewebnσvel.cøm

After she was gone, Winter finally said, "Now, she won’t dare to slander you anymore, Iris."

"Y-yes, but is it true that you said those things to her in the elevator?"

"You’ve known me long enough to know the answer," Winter said as she walked into the CEO’s office and put the coffee on the table. She sat on the sofa and asked, "I seem to forget the report I brought from the finance department on your desk. Please get it for me, Iris."

"Y-yes, Madam."

Iris put the budgeting report on the table next to the coffee and returned to her secretary’s desk, closing the door to give the husband and wife some privacy.

Winter sipped her coffee and smiled sarcastically at Sebastian. "How heroic of you, trying to defend me. I’m not offended nor troubled by her slanders, but thank you for saving me, Prince Charming."
