Chapter 83: Chapter 83

"Arthur, I think you need to stop mentioning the divorce between Sebastian and me," Winter reprimanded her bodyguard whom she thought had crossed the line this time. "I understand and appreciate your worry, but this won’t do anything for me."

"So, you will stay with Sebastian no matter what?" Arthur asked with a low voice. He sounded calm, but the heavens knew how much he tried to control his anger.

He was also disappointed, hoping that his Madam would listen to him, the man who had always been by her side through thick and thin.

"I’m waiting for him to make a mistake. I can’t just divorce him without any reason. I don’t want to split Aiden’s wealth with him," Winter explained. "Besides, he is a good CEO and a talented one. Someone whom I need to maintain the company. It’d be foolish to fire him now."

"Unless you can find me a better man who would willingly marry me and maintain the company, then I have no other choice."

Arthur was silenced after that statement.

He would be more than willing to marry his Madam.

It would be a blessing for him since she had always been his dream woman ever since he saw her for the first time.

Unfortunately, as much as he wished he could, he had no qualifications to run a multi-million dollar company. He joined the military because he wasn’t academically adequate.

He hated that Sebastian was a competent CEO, which made it hard for Winter to divorce him.

Winter translated Arthur’s silence as compliance. It was obvious that she couldn’t just divorce him, even though she truly wanted to be free from him.

"Just drive me home, Arthur. It’s no use talking about something that can’t be helped."

Sebastian returned home quite late today. He checked his watch as he waited for the elevator to reach the top floor.

’It’s already eleven. I can’t believe I’ll have to do this every day without any form of stress relief. Should I ask for Winter to kiss me? I can’t demand sex, but a kiss wouldn’t hurt, right?’ Sebastian pondered as the elevator door opened.

He entered the penthouse, kicked his shoes, and threw his briefcase to the sofa. He walked straight to the kitchen as he wanted to drink wine before he cleaned himself and went to sleep.

He had no appetite for dinner, nor did he expect Winter to cook for him again.

But to his surprise, he saw food on the table with a note beautifully handwritten by his wife.

-

Reheat it if necessary. Eat it all, I’ve eaten my fill.

- Winter.

-

Sebastian checked the food, Winter made a vegetable and beef soup that looked delicious. It was a little cold, so he guessed that she must’ve been cooking this in the evening.

Thus, he quickly reheated it and ate the food prepared by his wife with relish.

"God damn, that’s so good..." Sebastian murmured as he scooped the soup from the bowl repeatedly. His hand trembled a few times, as his heart was brimming with joy right now.

It might sound stupid, but the fact that Winter cooked dinner for him was enough to make him like he was the luckiest man on earth.

However, he still didn’t know why Winter would cook for him without putting anything dangerous inside the food.

Was this a sign that she began to fall in love with him?

Or was this a sign that she had fully disconnected herself from him? So she did her wifely duty before filing a divorce for him?

After all, he showed his weakness in the office today, maybe she found it repulsive when a man looked sad or distressed.

Sebastian slowly put the spoon down and stared at the half-empty bowl.

He lost his appetite instantly when he recalled Winter’s words.

-

’What I see as a failure is someone who did nothing and then blamed others for their misfortune. They deserve every pain and failure that they get.’

-

He wouldn’t be a CEO if he would cry over any small problem. He made mistakes too, but he quickly recovered from them and took another risk if that would give the company a better profit. But when his marriage was on the line, he got nervous and was afraid to make mistakes.

He worked until late at night today because he wanted to make sure that the company’s situation was perfect before meeting with Lucien LeBlanc. free𝑤ebnovel.com

He wanted to make his wife proud.

But that didn’t mean the insecurity and nervousness had dissipated.

"I won’t give up on you, Winter. I will prove that I am worthy of being your husband," Sebastian muttered. "So please, don’t give up on me as well."

**

Days passed until it was D-Day when the Charity Auction event was held in the evening. Winter and Sebastian were busy in their room, trying their best to look presentable because the event would be swarmed by the elite that came from across the globe.

Truthfully, Winter didn’t care about any of those elites. She wasn’t the type to hang out with them unless necessary, and she didn’t find any need for them while being married to Aiden.

At least until now, where she found herself trying to befriend Lucien LeBlanc again.

Winter looked around in her walk-in closet.

She was trying to find a good dress for the event.

If she followed her instinct, she would’ve worn another black dress akin to that of a funeral dress to show that she was still mourning.

But that wouldn’t be a good look since she was already married to Sebastian. She didn’t want to make a bad impression on the CEO of Goldmine Realty.

Thus, as she kept searching, her eyes stopped at a purple pure silk evening gown. It was a sleeveless gown with a slit on the leg.

It had no other decoration, nor embedded with any shiny jewelry. The gown looked simple, though the price might be astronomical as it was custom-designed for her.
