Magus Supremacy-Chapter 745: Meeting with the king of Demons
Chapter 745
IN AN UNKNOWN REALM!
A giant castle could be seen in the distance.
The inside of the castle was nothing like the grand, majestic halls one might expect.
Instead, it was an endless, shifting labyrinth that defied logic and reason.
The walls stretched impossibly high, built from gleaming black stone that reflected faint light like polished obsidian.
Golden lanterns floated mid air without chains or supports, drifting gently as they cast ghostly shadows that stretched and curled in strange patterns across the endless space.
The floors were made of smooth, black tiles that seemed to extend forever, yet with every few steps the corridors twisted, tilted, or spiraled into new directions as if the entire castle was alive and constantly rearranging itself.
Staircases coiled along the sides of walls, some leading upward into nothingness, while others descended into pitch black before reappearing elsewhere entirely.
Gigantic doors marked with ancient sigils floated in the air or leaned at impossible angles, leading to rooms that could be a grand banquet hall one moment and a silent, empty void the next.
Every sound, the faint echo of footsteps, distant whispers, and the low hum of unseen forces, carried endlessly, as though the castle itself was breathing and listening.
The entire place felt like walking inside a dream that could collapse, twist, or reshape at will, a castle unbound by reality and suspended between worlds.
Deep within this fortress, on one of the floating stone platforms, a throne stood.
Shadows clung to it like living smoke, hiding the figure seated upon it.
And before the throne, a figure could be seen standing calmly.
His face was obscured by a mask, but behind it, his crimson eyes glowed faintly through the dark surface.
It was as if this individual was unaffected by the presence, by the overwhelming aura the figure on the throne exuded.
Because he did not bow, nor did he fret.
He stood firm as a rock with his hands tucked inside his pockets, showing no care at all.
He was equally releasing a terrifying presence of his own, with his robes brushing against the stone beneath his boots while moving like flowing water.
"Upper Echelon One." The demonic voice on the throne resounded throughout the area.
Thrum—!
The sound of equipment suddenly hummed through the air.
Instantly, the position of the throne shifted and it could be seen placed three metres away from the masked figure.
Still, he remained nonchalant.
"What do you want, Lucifero? Why did you summon me?" the man demanded with a slight frown hidden behind the mask.
Indeed, this was Lucifero, the creator, leader, and king of all demons, seated calmly on his throne with his chin resting on his hand.
While before him stood his most powerful demon in the realm, Upper Echelon One.
Not his first creation, but definitely his strongest ever.
"Hm. Why did I summon you eh?" Lucifero repeated the question as he shifted in his seat.
His obsidian eyes pierced toward Echelon One with quiet intensity.
"Why are you failing?" he continued. "You promised to serve me blood. You promised to cause slaughter in realms and worlds, but for some reason, you are... stagnated. Why?"
"..."
A tense silence brewed between them both before Echelon One’s lips pressed into a thin line behind the mask.
"Ah. Why do you have to go and remind me of my failure now?"
"That is because your damn failure is affecting me. I want to send an echelon down there to wreak havoc, but I do not have much energy. Something you were tasked with providing for me by killing."
"And how is it my fault that that damned kid keeps stopping my plans?!" Echelon One retorted in anger as he glared at Lucifero.
"Kid? What kid?" Lucifero asked again with a raised brow.
"The same kid who killed Gil—the Lower Echelon Ten?"
"Oh. That kid." Lucifero uttered, then tilted his head the next moment as he stared at Upper Echelon One some more.
"...Hold on. Is this not the same kid who killed two amongst your strongest men?"
Echelon One just crossed his arms across his chest with a huff.
"So?"
"So?" Lucifero repeated before his eyes glowed with a murderous gleam. "So why have you not sent him to the great beyond yourself?!"
A blast of air erupted as the words left Lucifero’s mouth, slamming into Echelon One and, for some reason, barely lifting him off his feet or even shifting him the slightest bit.
"And why should I bother myself with him? He is just a pebble trying to act like a mountain in the grand scheme of things. If I acted on my own, I would ruin my reputation amongst the demons. It is best that I stay in the shadows a little longer."
"And if he grows stronger?"
"I will crush him."
"I meant stronger than you," Lucifero growled at Echelon One.
"..."
A pause occurred for a moment before Upper Echelon One chuckled, his shoulders rising and falling with every sound that left his mouth.
"If a god—the highest of all celestials, could struggle against me, what can a mere mortal like that kid do to me?"
Lucifero tilted his head once more.
"Aren’t you getting too cocky?"
"And aren’t you getting too chatty?" Echelon One shot back with a slight frown. "Look. If you have nothing more to say to me, I would appreciate it if you let me go now."
A tense silence brewed between them as invisible sparks crackled through the air.
"Oh boy~"
Thrum—!
Lucifero’s position shifted and he appeared directly beside Echelon One in the blink of an eye.
"I would like it if you lowered your voice when speaking to me next time."
"Oh, Lucifero. The others might fear you, but we both know that I do not." Echelon One clapped back as he turned his head to stare at the king of demons.
Their eyes glowed at each other for a few seconds before settling down as Lucifero clicked his tongue.
"You are lucky that you are useful to me. I am not ready to lose my strongest soldier because of a mere spat. At least not for now."
Lucifero added as he turned away and began walking off.
"Also. What is the name of that kid again?"
"Grey. Grey Dawn," Echelon One replied.
Thrum—!
Lucifero vanished from view, with only his voice echoing throughout the realm.
"I will do well to remember it when I am prepared to send the next echelon. You may leave now."
