Chapter 749: An Unrecorded Portal

Chapter 749

Grabbing a quick meal from the house, Grey was off again.

He only saw Clarice at home meaning that Yami had gone out as usual.

Nobody knew where he went or what he does as he always left early and came back late... real late. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Only Clarice would seldom catch glimpses of him when he came back but she refused to tell Grey what was going on.

And now, she was about to be left all alone in the house with nothing to do and nobody to talk with.

The death of Vanessa and Millie created a hole of loneliness deep within her.

Before he left, Grey wanted to solve this issue.

"Noir. Can you help keep her company? Please."

The familiar didn’t reply instantly as a few seconds went by before the wolf finally appeared in front of Clarice.

"Thank you."

With that, Grey was now more than ready to leave the house to visit the Crimson Clan.

When he had been grabbing his food, Clarice spotted the burnt injuries and forcefully made him wrap his forearms in a thick bandage.

Stepping out, he let the cool breeze ruffle his hair a bit.

"I almost forgot that I had promised to modify the Crimson Lotus Clan’s weapons. I also want to modify my pendant.

If I can get Alba’s weapons up a bit, it will help me a lot. Even Clara needs some upgrading before the day of battle."

He exhaled sharply as he swung his hand in the air. His hand cut the air in an X formation.

The same ’X’ appeared visibly in the air before a portal tore open in front of him.

"... I need more beast cores to do this."

He finally stepped through the portal that snapped shut behind him.

An ashen portal could be seen opening up in front of a landscape.

The land was so wide that a small town could had been built on it. Instead, a single building dominated the center of the space.

Grey stepped out of the portal and without hesitation, made his way into the building.

Inside, he was hit with a bustle of movements.

"Huh? What’s going on?" He suddenly voiced out as he saw the members of the Crimson Clan rushing from one side to the other trying to get something accomplished.

And for some reason, all of them seemed to be armed to the teeth. Alba was nowhere to be seen.

"Oh? Grey." Killian just uttered without offering any explanation whatsoever and then he went on his way moving some things around.

"Can someone just explain what is going on here?" He demanded with a frown on his face.

That was when Alba could be seen coming downstairs and she looked flustered.

Weapons strapped around her waist that swayed with every step she took.

Just like Killian, she wielded two swords.

"Supreme Magus." Alba noted the appearance as she walked forward.

Hearing his name, he turned to stare at the leader of the Clan.

"Been a while you appeared around here. Is everything okay?" She asked with a stoic expression on her face.

Today, she didn’t look like she was in the mood of chatting or smiling.

"Is everything okay? Why are they all moving around continuously?" Grey asked confusedly.

Alba just turned to see the others finishing up the movement.

"Oh. About that." She chuckled before explaining. "We got an intel. An unclassified portal just opened up in a no man’s land."

"No man’s land? What is that?" Grey asked with a raised brow.

The red haired woman just pinched her nose with a sigh before replying:

"It means a land that is not on any clan’s territory. That’s where the unrecorded portal appeared on."

"Oh?" Grey muttered with a nod before asking the obvious question. "So what’s the fuss now about?"

Alba just smirked.

"The fuss is that; everybody wants to get into the portal no matter what. Except for the two big clans in the faction that is. Every other clan both independent and dependent wants to go into that portal to hunt the beasts and maybe find some special tools there."

Grey shifted slightly with a raised brow.

"Isn’t a portal like that dangerous? Nobody knows what you all might encounter in it."

"Don’t worry. This mission is not just for one clan or person, every single person that registered are going in. So if something happens, we got a lot of meat shield." Alba let out a devilish chuckle that made Grey’s skin prickle for a moment.

Grey paused for a moment as a thought flashed across his mind.

’An unrecorded portal eh? Which means that the beasts in it might be strong especially the boss. If I’m able to deal with enough beasts and probably the boss class, I would have enough cores to do all I want.’

"We wouldn’t have bothered risking our lives for this," Alba continued with a sigh. "But we have exhausted our reserves of beast cores producing that thousands of pills a few weeks ago.

Hence we need to hunt for more cores incase a situation arises that we might need em."

Grey nodded seemingly understanding her words.

"Yeah, okay. Whatever. Can I come along?"

"Hmm?" Alba lifted an eyebrow in confusion. "Why?"

"Well," Grey crossed his arms across his chest. "... I have never seen you or the rest of the clan members fight before. I need to come along to gauge your strengths to see those I hired for my mission."

Alba was about to say something when Grey interrupted.

"And if you all are strong, I would hate for any unprecedented incident to occur that would make me lose you all. So I need to come just in case."

"Oh." Alba muttered before footsteps interrupted her as the remaining members of the clan appeared.

"Alba, we are ready." Lance announced with a grim look.

"Okay then. You can come along." Alba shrugged indifferently then she turned to the others before turning back to the door. "Let’s go."
