Chapter 770

Nobody dared to interrupt Fenrir. Not out of fear but out of the fact that they were too invested in the story.

Initially, it was only Grey who cared but now the other members of the Crimson Lotus Clan including Alba were roped in tightly.

"Ahem..." Fenrir cleared his throat and then continued:

"... We had no idea that Orion was actually part of the Otherworlders and was sent as a spy to us. We found him when he was... maybe twenty something years old?" He uttered while rubbing his temples.

"Sorry, my memory is a little bit foggy. Anyway. He was sent as an infiltrator by those Otherworlders. The time they had attacked Arondale, that was their debut appearance.

And after then, they went on conquering several other worlds officially earning them the name ’The Otherworlders’. They had been planning to conquer this world of warriors and when word got to Sir Armin, he refused to let it happen.

He wasn’t going to sit back and let the second world he had suddenly grown fond of to face the same calamity his biological world did."

"... He wasn’t a fool though. He knew that in this coming war, he wouldn’t survive. So without Thalos, My or Orion’s knowledge, he began doing things. Pulling strings from the shadows.

He escaped death once, he knew he might not be so lucky next time so he began setting down things that might help the next hope of the universe to defeat the otherworlders. What a genius."

Fenrir was now lost in thought totally forgetting about the fact that he was speaking to the room.

Grey lifted an eyebrow at this and with a cough, he pulled Fenrir out of his thoughts.

"Right, sorry." Fenrir chuckled as he shifted in his seat and then continued:

"The day of the invasion inched closer by the second. What we didn’t know was that the supposed invasion from the otherworlders, wasn’t from them. A mythical and powerful race instead were the ones to attack.

The demons."

Alba and her crew knitted their eyebrows at this.

"Demons? What are you say—"

"Demons eh? I encountered them during the Aetherian tournament and even killed a lower echelon." Grey shrugged cutting Alba’s words off.

Hearing his words, Fenrir slowly twisted his head around to stare at Grey in pure shock.

"You...you killed an echelon? How?"

Grey just shrugged nonchalantly.

"With the power of friendship... I guess."

Fenrir’s mouth was seen hanging agape for a moment before he shook his head as a smile crossed his lips.

Then he continued his tale, refusing to get sidetracked.

"The demons attacked and the battle was devastating. So many people got killed and for some reason, it was just the Aetherian faction that was attacked. The other factions weren’t hence they knew not of this threat except for Borfan.

Luckily, no echelon attacked hence we were all able to defeat all the demons. Seeing as the universe was in grave danger, Sir Armin decided to create the Aetherian academy."

"..."

"... He did so with the hopes of grooming new powerful talents for the future. And then he appointed Orion as the vice principal at the time due to the fact that he was powerful in the arts of Ki.

Years passed and Orion along with Thalos earned Sir Armin’s unwavering trust. Due to the fact that he was an original mage, he wasn’t even growing old one bit.

He remained as unchanging as the first time we met years ago. And seeing that I was growing older in his face and might die before him, he taught me an art."

Grey leaned forward seemingly intrigued.

"... He thought me an art that helped slow down my aging process immensely helping me stay by his side for much longer until—"

"What?" Killian asked impatiently.

"Orion’s betrayal. It was as if Armin knew that something was up, he suddenly upped and took Thalos from the faction without the rest of us with him. I don’t know what he did with the gargoyle, but he returned a week later— alone."

Grey stared with an invisible smile on his face.

’So that was when he sealed Thalos in the castle I found and battled him huh? Things are finally clicking in place.’

"And he was right to do that because Orion being part of the Otherworlders and being part of the twelve zodiac, decided it was time to attack and which five of the zodiacs including Orion did.

They attacked when we lest expected. Funny enough, Sir Armin knew an attack was imminent but by who? That he didn’t know.

So you can imagine the shock and horror on his face when he found out that the kid he had taken care of for years was part of the Otherworlders and launched the attack which resulted in his death."

’Honestly, I can’t imagine the brutal pain both emotionally and physically that he must have experienced.’

"So...so how did you know Orion was behind this?" Ash curiously asked.

Fenrir just let out a bitter laugh.

"I was there all along. Helpless and unable to do anything because when Sir Armin had sensed the intruders, he quickly hid my presence in the same room while restricting my movements with high level magic spells.

When the Otherworlders struck, I was practically invisible to them as I watched Sir Armin battle for his life all alone and then at the end of the day lose due to how powerful his killers were while I stood there... helpless and sobbing.

The-The moment they were done, they burnt his body right there in the room while I watched."

"...."

A somber silence settled over the group as they began picturing the incident and how it happened in their minds.

’Honestly, I know how he feels. Because I had to watch my mother, Vanessa and Millie get killed in front of me by the Otherworlders while being powerless and unable to do anything.’

A few seconds passed as lightning crackled around Fenrir’s hands. His teeth audibly grinding against eachother angrily.

After a few more seconds, Killian decided to ask the question on his mind.

"So even after this, why did you become his vice clan leader? And how-how didn’t Orion recognise you? Surely if he had, you would have died too."

"..."

Fenrir exhaled causing the lightning surrounding his hands to die down.

"The moment my master died and they left the room, the magic binding me got destroyed immediately. I was left grieving for days. Sir Armin was a man of detail. He always made sure to detail his journey, his experiments, his success, his failure and life in different journals.

Different journals for different aspects. I got a hold of one of the journal that taught me the art of concealment which I had used to alter both my appearance and aura so I was undetectable to that fool."

Calling Orion that title, Fenrir let out a chuckle.

"And about why I decided to act like his vice leader, well, I will leave you with this saying; Keep your friends close and your enemy closer while keeping those you want to skin alive, even more closer."

Grey edged forward, keeping his hands in front of his face while staring at Fenrir who now leaned back into his chair visibly exhausted by the whole conversation and relieving the past.

Honestly, nobody could say anything at this moment.

The atmosphere was too solemn and Fenrir’s words left them to their thoughts as they tried sorting the information until—

"From your words of earlier and now, if I were to guess, the Midnight Sun Clan, they are part of the Otherworlders too?" Grey asked as his expression grew tense.

Fenrir lifted his eyebrow and then bitterly smiled.

"... Yes. And the leader of the clan is a nine star mage with immense power and he is also amongst the twelve zodiac. So plus Orion, that makes two zodiacs in this world in high enough positions."
