Magus Supremacy-Chapter 861: Sneak Attack?
Chapter 861
"Hello, Kira."
The Phoenix glanced around the partly destroyed coliseum with a confused expression on its regal face.
Turning back to observe the portal it had just emerged from, the rift snapped shut with a loud, resonating buzz.
Then, directly in front of it, the avian could feel a sinister aura emanating from Orion, causing the lightning coiled around its wings to crackle with deadly intensity.
"A corrupted Primordial ranked beast?!" Kira voiced telepathically, projecting her thoughts so clearly that every single person present could hear her words echoing in their minds.
Grey nodded in somber agreement as he touched his chest, feeling the agonizing passage of time catching up to him at a shocking pace.
He knew with absolute certainty that if something wasn’t achieved quickly, he would lose the vital amplification that "breakthrough" provided his body.
Which was precisely why he had decided to summon the lightning phoenix—his most recent, powerful ally.
Since Noir was no longer present, he required more hands on deck to assist him in this desperate struggle with Orion.
’If the situation deteriorates further, I shall simply have to utilize the pill to restore my mana for just five minutes...’
Turning around to gaze at the mage for a brief second, the phoenix scanned his current physical state from head to toe.
The Supreme Magus didn’t truly look to be in a healthy condition.
He was bleeding from several wounds, yet he still oozed a formidable aura.
It was far more potent than when they had faced one another... twice.
"No wonder you felt compelled to summon me here. I haven’t seen you exert yourself like this before."
Grey tilted his head to glare at the phoenix with a blank, unreadable look on his face.
Orion, on the other hand, was merely staring at the crackling wings and luminous body of the creature before him.
’A lightning phoenix? How did Grey locate such a rarity? In all the countless years I have lived—which is a vast number—I haven’t encountered a phoenix before.
Perhaps the leader must have crossed paths with a flame phoenix, which is quite rare to stumble across.
But never have I heard of a lightning phoenix before; that’s how truly insane this is. And...’ the hybrid tilted his head for a second, analyzing the threat. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Taking in the raw aura he felt from the beast in front of him, his brows furrowed in concentration:
’... It’s of the Primordial rank? That should theoretically be as strong as Thalos, but no... it is significantly more formidable due to its innate connection with the lightning element. Damn. This will be quite a strenuous task as I have to battle Grey, Thalos, and the Phoenix at the same time?’
Shifting into a ready stance, Orion smirked widely as if the precarious situation was merely something he shouldn’t bother about.
’This will be entertaining, as I’m certain that I won’t suffer defeat no matter what.’

Those watching from the sidelines stared at the newcomer with pure awe in their eyes, captivated especially as the phoenix spoke directly into their minds.
"How did Grey manage to befriend something like this?" Liam asked with visible wonder on his face.
Rivock chuckled silently, his eyes never leaving the arena.
"Grey certainly does make friends with the most peculiar creatures."
"... And beautiful too," Alba commented softly, as she appeared completely enchanted by the beautiful, ethereal glow radiating from the phoenix.
A grim look settled on Dame’s face instead as he observed the bickering between Grey and the Phoenix currently taking place.
’But will this addition even be enough to turn the tide?’

"Sigh... you know what? I’m tired of arguing with you. Can we just return to the battle at hand?" Grey demanded with a scowl on his face as he pointed behind the phoenix at the hybrid standing several yards away.
Kira turned her head to face Orion, who was currently grinning like a total madman.
The beast even went as far as waving mockingly at the phoenix.
Hitting his shield with his greatsword to draw attention, Thalos shifted into a defensive stance again as he could sense a shift in the air.
And he was entirely right, as Orion had finally had enough of standing around.
He launched forward from where he stood with lightning speed, closing the distance between himself and the Phoenix within a fraction of a second.
His pincer-like claws were poised and ready to eviscerate the beast as if it were nothing.
Thalos leaned forward, muscles tensing as he prepared to dash ahead in order to protect the phoenix from the impending strike.
But he didn’t even need to intervene.
A bright light encapsulated the phoenix, and right in front of everybody’s eyes, it vanished from view, allowing for Orion’s claws to harmlessly smash the empty air with a dull bang.
Everybody paused, twisting and turning while searching frantically for the phoenix.
"Sneak attack? That strategy doesn’t work on me. The mage can testify to that," Kira voiced telepathically, her tone ringing with a touch of divine arrogance.
The onlookers continued to scan the ruins, looking for where the beast had relocated, but to no avail.
They were unable to find it no matter how intently they searched.
Orion was rapidly turning his head, his predatory instincts on high alert.
He couldn’t see Kira either, but he could sense her high-speed movement vibrating through the atmosphere.
The phoenix was blistering around the area with such immense speed that the naked eye was completely unable to lock onto her position.
Grey didn’t move an inch; he stared perfectly ahead at Orion while glancing at Thalos for a brief second.
Their eyes caught one another in a silent moment of understanding.
With a wordless nod, they remained perfectly still while the Phoenix kept dashing around the perimeter.
Thalos and Grey had battled the phoenix to the death once before, and they had prevailed.
They possessed intimate knowledge of all its abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, so they understood exactly what she was doing.
The Supreme Magus knew it all too well, especially since he had later battled the beast entirely alone and emerged victorious again.
With every death and subsequent rebirth, the phoenix grows stronger.
Currently, she was even more powerful than Thalos, even if both of them could be categorized within the same rank.
"Show yourself!" Orion bellowed, his voice laced with agitation as he rained down a thousand Ki swords from the sky.
The dark blades saturated the air all around him, launched in the desperate hope that at least one would catch the phoenix unaware.
But they didn’t find their mark.
The Ki swords tore harmlessly through the ground like it was nothing, billowing thick plumes of dust into the air.
The moment the dust rose up to obscure the vision of those present, a pair of glowing white eyes appeared directly before the hybrid as if they had always been there.
Screeech—!
A pure, violent cadence appeared deep within the phoenix’s mouth as a point-blank range beam of lightning burst out at incredible speed toward Orion.
It all happened so fast that the hybrid was stunned for a split second, the brilliant beam heading his way illuminating every jagged detail of his face.
