Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 148: Broken friendship?
As he walked quietly through the hallway with a straight face, his fingers trailed on the cold walls. His blue slit eyes glowed darkly as all he could think about was the fire mage, the arrogant parrot, and his dear wife, Sage Dragos.
His lips twitched in disbelief, and he resolved to do something to divert his attention away from the fire mage.
He had a lot to do around the kingdom, and knowing that the recent snowstorms had caused damage, he was confident that the authorities of the kingdom’s damaged areas were taking care of it.
For the time being, the statkus mages had left Antica, and the only threat he had to face was Esteban and, most likely, himself.
His birthday was approaching faster than expected, which meant that the time to kill the fire mage was also approaching faster than expected.
He wished the day would hurry up so he wouldn’t have to deal with those repulsive creatures known as statkus mages.
Cyrus was still bothered by the fact that he had killed Jorad, Sage had killed Inkadon, and there was one more elder left because it was obvious that Jestia was the most powerful statkus mage.
Cyrus clenched his fists and came to a halt as he felt a sharp pain in his head. "Arrgh! It would be disastrous if I turned into a mindless beast right now." He growled and punched the wall next to him hard, causing a huge crack that echoed throughout the castle.
"What the hell happened to that fox?" Cyrus inquired through his teeth, and his lips slowly curved into a menacing smile.
"Oh?" He cocked his head to the side and stuffed his bloodied fist into his coat pocket.
His smile vanished when he remembered Ashton had slapped him earlier. In his dark state, his healing ability was enhanced, as was his connection to the nine-tailed fox.
He closed his eyes and whispered softly. "Snow, do not expect me to apologize, so come out wherever you are or you will starve to death."
"Are you talking like that?" A familiar voice inquired, scoffing in disbelief. "Even the guardian beast has feelings."
"He is also in his dark state; he is obviously messing with me." Cyrus rolled his eyes and turned to face River, who was clearly annoyed.
"Do not dismiss the possibility that he is enraged at you for killing your normal state! No matter how terrifying that guardian beast is, he would never advise you to do something so heinous!" River had to raise his voice and take a step closer to the unconcerned ice dragon.
"You raising your voice at me neither rewinds time nor affects me." Cyrus scoffed at him.
"Of course, act on your frozen heart, kill as many as you can, push those who love and care for you away, and kill your wife as you did yourself! I can not believe Ashton hasn’t noticed your insanity! What made you kill your normal state? So you can achieve your goals without hesitation?" River screamed at Cyrus without restraining himself.
He expressed his pain and disappointment, and was enraged to see that Cyrus didn’t seem to be affected by his words in the least.
He came to a halt, standing very close to Cyrus, and sighed in frustration. "I know you, you are in more pain in this state than you are in your normal state, even though it is a shield. But here’s the thing: your dark state is your shield; it shields you from extreme danger while absorbing every pain it protects you from."
"You are starting to talk a lot." Cyrus mumbled, uninterested.
"Listen!" River yelled, and Cyrus’ eyes narrowed.
"I am not sure why you killed your dark state! Draco, you know how much I despise you!" River poked his chest furiously, and his eyes morphed into their gold reptile form. "You have disgusted me by killing my best friend!"
"You overheard my conversation with the fire mage." River’s words of pain and disappointment had no effect on Cyrus.
"And I do not expect anything less from you. I do not anticipate you returning her memories." River mumbled with a low growl.
Cyrus smirked, mockingly. "So why come to me to scream at the top of your lungs when you know it is pointless? You have squandered your time, prince River; your best friend has died, and you must deal with the consequences." He replied curtly, slapped River’s hand away, and walked away from him.
River burst out laughing. "What makes me surprised? I completely forgot about his inability to feel remorse." He sighed, rubbing his brow in frustration, and walked away from Cyrus in the opposite direction.
When River returned to his room, Katherine stood at the door with her head bowed. His eyes widened and then shrank, glimmering softly.
"I have come to speak with you." Katherine said this without averting her gaze from his.
"If you want to avoid my gaze, you should leave." River growled, and Katherine looked up at him, staring at him with widened eyes, giving River the shock of his life because it was the first time he had seen her sparkling hypnotic transparent sky blue eyes.
"Wait, what happened to you?" River was taken aback.
"Sage unintentionally erased some of my memories while simultaneously unlocking my water spirit. This is the true shape of my eyes." She revealed herself with a faint smile.
"It is stunning." River admitted, flustered, and Katherine respectfully bowed.
"Thank you very much, Master." River’s eyes widened in surprise as he hadn’t heard her call him in quite some time. "Master."
"I would like you to do me a favor. I have heard what I have missed, but I am not sure why everyone keeps telling me that we are.."
"It is better you do not remember." River said this in a deep sinister tone before taking a long step towards Katherine, causing her to gasp and lower her head.
"W...what?" Katherine stuttered, perplexed.
River’s golden eyes grew cold, and he appeared impatient. "Look at me. Have you forgotten that it is your responsibility as my pet to obey me?" With a deep growl, he asked, and she slowly raised her head, her panicked eyes bore into his cold ones.
"Please accept my apologies, but I will no longer be referred to as your pet, your highness." Katherine spoke confidently, and the panic left her eyes, but returned seeing extreme fury in those golden ones.
"And how come?" River inquired sternly.
"Because I said so," Sage said abruptly, appearing out of nowhere.
