Chapter 145 - 145

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Soon after.

The old patriarch left the hall with everyone and flew toward the city not far in front of them.

After all, everyone present was either an Angelic entity or a sorcerer, so there was no concern about their ability to fly.

Soon.

Under the guidance of the old patriarch, everyone reached the tall buildings in front of them. The entire place radiated a sacred energy, as if it had never been tainted by corruption or malevolence.

Below them, a massive waterfall cascaded, its water flowing like liquid gold. Every stream shimmered as though it were crafted from the Soul Stone itself—dazzling to the point of being blinding.

"Where is this place?"

The Dark Witch gazed down and noticed the golden waterfall. Her curiosity got the better of her as she asked.

"This is the Sanctum Purificatum," the old patriarch responded, voice calm yet authoritative. "It's a sacred place our Angelic Order uses to purify ourselves after conflict. Many of the demons we fight are laced with infernal energy—chaos magic, nether-spawn curses, fragments of Mephisto's influence. We must cleanse ourselves of all traces."

He added with a faint smile, "And, since you all have assisted us greatly, I extend an invitation to join us in the cleansing ritual. A symbolic act, yes, but also spiritually vital. Consider it both gratitude and necessity."

Given the weight of their alliance, it would have been rude not to extend such an offer.

"Then thank you, old patriarch."

Finn and the others replied with polite smiles. In truth, Finn was rather curious about the place himself. And the idea of bathing near the witch certainly sweetened the experience—though he'd never admit that out loud.

The Dark Witch noticed Finn's slight smirk and rolled her eyes. A flicker of irritation surfaced. He was, after all, the one she had developed feelings for. She shoved the thought away, choosing not to dwell on such distractions.

Not long after.

They arrived at the sacred place, and it was even more vast up close. Two massive statues of Archangels—bearing resemblance to ancient celestial guardians, wings spread wide, halos burning like suns—stood at the gate.

The atmosphere radiated power and pride, not some fragile sanctum, but an eternal stronghold forged in resilience.

"You Angelics live in a place like this? Aren't you afraid demons might infiltrate it?"

Finn's question was blunt and caught the Angels off guard—many of them laughed softly.

As the old patriarch led them forward, he explained with patience, "Though our Angelic strength may not rival the brute force of the Hellspawn armies, in defense, we are unmatched. We have activated the Celestial Aegis—an artifact derived from ancient Kree shielding tech merged with magical wards from the Sanctum Sanctorum. Even the Demon King himself—should he rise again—would struggle to penetrate it."

He spoke with pride, confidence etched on his face. These artifacts weren't just relics—they were the backbone of their survival, allowing their kind to persist through countless wars.

"Definitely," Brice added—an Angelic warrior who had been quiet until now. "Without the Aegis, we wouldn't have survived. It's what allowed our Order to endure all this time."

The Magician's Demon?

Finn and the others looked puzzled, the term not quite registering.

"What do you mean by Magician's Demon? Aren't demons and sorcerers separate entities?" Stephen asked, frowning. His tone was skeptical.

"A traditional sorcerer is born of structure, discipline, inner balance," Stephen continued. "Those demons we fought radiated pure chaos and infernal energy. That's not how magic works."

Seeing the doubt on their faces, the old patriarch clarified, "You're not wrong. But certain demons—once they acquire our relic, the Lumen Core—undergo a transformation. They retain their demonic essence, yes, but they gain access to structured magic. Dark magic. It's the equivalent of giving a Mad Titan the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme."

And that, he said gravely, was why the demons would never stop hunting them. The stakes were too high.

"Lumen Core?" Finn's brow furrowed. "What kind of relic would cause that level of obsession?"

He wasn't alone—both witches and even Spider-Man leaned in with interest.

The old patriarch glanced at Brice again, who nodded and explained, "The Lumen Core is a nexus beam, formed from the ancient convergence of ley lines that run through the multiverse. It balances all forms of magic—chaotic, elemental, divine. It can regulate and stabilize energy in ways no artifact on Earth has managed."

He gestured to a glowing beam in the distance, shooting into the clouds like the Bifrost itself—though this was purer, less technological, more arcane.

Everyone turned to look.

"It doesn't seem solid," Spider-Man said, adjusting his lenses. "It's like... invisible unless you focus."

"I can feel it," the Dark Witch said quietly. "The energy. It's... intense."

"It might be reacting to your connection with the Darkhold," Finn noted. "Makes sense that it resonates."

"Same here," the other witch nodded. "Not as strong, but it's definitely there."

"Exactly why the demons want it," Finn said, calmly. "Anything that allows them to break their limitations is worth fighting to the death for."

The old patriarch called back, "We're nearly there."

A few minutes later.

They entered the innermost chamber. What awaited them was a grand hall bathed in golden light, lined with floating candelabras, divine instruments, and enough food to rival a Wakandan feast. The floor shimmered like the halls of Asgard, and on either side, female Angels stood in formation—serene yet powerful, like warrior-priestesses.

"Please, take a seat. The food isn't extravagant by Midgardian standards, but it is prepared with care," the patriarch said warmly.

The guests found places to sit—Finn, the witches, Stephen, Spider-Man. They looked at the table with genuine hunger and awe.

"You don't have to be polite, Finn," the old patriarch said with a grin. "This is for you. Without your help, our sanctum would've been scorched to ruin."

The invitation was sincere, and Finn nodded in thanks.

As they dug in, the tension of the battlefield faded slightly. But under the surface, everyone knew it was far from over.
