Master Of None-Chapter 2845. Called Back
Once they returned, the scouts began to give their reports ot their captians. Walker and Su also shared some information about the monsters they encountered and Walker recorded the information for everyone. He also made a lot of focus on the skills needed and how everyone had to adjust themselves for the fact that undead were a high potential opponent to face.
This didn't change much in what everyone else was doing though. The scouts and adventurers working with the scouts were already prepared in some ways. Alice also made a lot of effort on that note though.
While she had seen the threat in the spiders and the ants, she had made a lot more effort to purify the area when they had faced the ants being controlled by mushrooms. Therefore, she had also begun to speak to those who would be healing here for a longer term.
The preparation to handle any issues related to undead mana was good. The healers that could use purification skills to heal others were surprisingly higher in number than what Walker expected. That could be simply because it was important to have purification spells for infections, venoms, and poisons. Or, it could be because the undead mana hung around the continent and pushed people to naturally develop purification skills related to their healing classes.
Whether it was one other the other didn't really matter. Everyone knew that the environment one person lived in would influence what they learned and how their resistances grew. If everyone gained skills to resist undead mana or to purify it, then that would be valuable for the future.
"I am curious, why are there no bridges to the elemental planes here." Alice had come to the conclusion that there had to be an important reason. Thinking about it also distracted her from the fact that she was planning to teach a small group of younger healers teleporting to the camp later.
"I would have to assume it has to do with how the world was compressed and how the manas are more unbalanced. The ancient monsters never let the manas calm so it was always moving in ways that would come to harm the natural balance if condensed mana of any form came here or the manas here left the wold." The theory sounded right,.
Walker could only imagine the issues caused if a bridge formed here. Plenty of clashing manas in this area would have poured in and tried to balance with whatever elemental plane was on the other side of the bridge. It would cause there to be more issues and even thinking about traveling through that bridge would be impossible.
It would also go to note that there would most likely be damage to the bridge causing chaotic manas from the outer areas between the planes and the world to come within the world. It would cause a lot of corruption that would need to be handled. Nothing that anyone wished for and nothing that the will of the world would be allowed to happen since that would break the world itself.
There was a balance and protection to everything.
"I think Midnight is having too much fun with Remey." Walker pointed toward Midnight who was showing the berries and various herbs and seeds to Remey. It was clear that Midnight had gotten a little too ahead of herself expecting that Remey would be taking everything she found tasty to be grown in the greenhouses. Then again, Remey might lose in that battle of wills since she had a soft spot for Midnight and Su.
And with both Midnight and Su telling her how great the berries tasted and how nice the herbs they found smelled, well, it was a matter of time before Remey lost the battle.
It wasn't a bad thing though. Being able to have more variety in tea ingredients or expanding the herbs that could be used to other things than potions and medicines was good. One of the herbs called gray sage was missing any light oriented purification effects. Instead, it seemed to have a natural calming effect when burned. That alone was valuable to adventurers, cattle herders, and even for certain medical uses to help those in pain calm despite that pain.
"Hey! I hear you saw some interesting golems. I want to hear about them. I need some new arrow materials." The way that Gil said this sounded forced. Walker immediately gave him a questioning look and saw that Gil wasn't relaxing much.
"Sure, but I don't want to drop it all here. How about in one of the resting tents?'n Seeing this, Alice left Walker to leave with Gil. After a few moments when they had entered the tent, Walker glanced at Gil, "Why are you so stressed right now?"
"I probably need to head back to Genesis and have to stay there sooner than we planned." Now Walker wanted to know even more what was going on. Gil had been prepared for a big expedition before settling down and standing as a figure for the elves and Genesis. He was ready to stand beside Alma and lead. Grow a family. That was important to him, but he clearly wasn't ready to go back from this adventure just yet.
"Did I miss an important report?"
"Not in the way you think. Instead, there was a race that claims they used to be ancient high elves who accidentally made their way in to the elemental planes. But their explanations don't add up so Alma wanted to have me come back and see if I could sense more than the others who awakened high elf bloodlines. It doesn't feel right though."
Narrowing his eyes, Walker focused even more as Gil took a deep breath and explained more of what Alma had sent to him in information and reports. "They showed up saying they were from a mixed elemental plane, darkness and light. So they are assumed to be shadow affinity elves. But they have longer ears, developed tails, and they can't be appraised by anyone so far. They have skills to hide themselves very well. The only reason they haven't actually stayed in Genesis or anywhere else is because they are too sensitive to the manas mixed in the world."
'That's a good thing for now. But if they aren't allowing appraisals and they are approaching saying they are descendants of elves-"
"Not descendants. Some are claiming to be high elves that changed due to being in the elemental planes. They are claiming they lived before the records of high elves that we have now. They are saying they fought against the immortal chasing race and the vampires but someone ended up breaking in to the elemental planes and being stuck on a border for years and years. That even their children are a few hundred years old."
Now Walker understood it all. There were no records of high elves who lived that long. There were no records of high elves fighting the immortal chasing race and the vampires. No larger ruins form a high elf civilization during that time.
"If they are telling the truth then there is a great deal missing. But if they are lying, then how do they know what they know, what are they, and what are they trying to achieve?"
Now Gil saw that Walker was on the same page. It was enough to understand there was a lot more they needed to study here. "I guess I will come back with you too. That should help things along since I should be able to use some force if need be." Walker also didn't want to end his side of the expedition. There were so many variables he needed to be prepared for here.
Then again, he also had to show trust in the people. This wasn't a show for him to put on. The expedition was a way for Genesis and its people to grow stronger together. He had to let that happen or else he would lose the faith of those who called him a hero.
"Thank you. Maybe you can help me gather some arrow materials too? If I am going to be in Genesis, I would like a few new materials to practice with so that I won't lose my mind after so much paperwork or teaching." The soft smile was like an addict asking for their favorite vice.
"Oh you would love that. Make me an errand boy to gather materials for you and your experimental arrows. You think Alma wouldn't yell at me too?" The pair began joking a little to lighten the mood.
However, the worry about another unknown race with information that didn't make sense weighed on the pair. They knew they would have to take this more seriously.
