Mated To My Best Friend's Lycan Alpha Brothers-Chapter 460: The First Time She Saw Him
(Author’s POV)
It has been nearly a fortnight since Amelia and Denver’s encounter. After her initial frustration, Amelia calmed down, thinking, ’He is new here. Soon, he would come and talk to her on his own. After all, he joined late, and there are tons of materials he would find difficult. Isn’t it?’ That thought made her feel smug.
One day~ ... two days~ ... by day three ~ ... slowly yet steadily, her smugness started to turn into vexation. Time passed by on its own pace, but not once did Denver approach Amelia or even look at her. He seemed to have eased into his school life on his own.
After one week, she had been totally defeated by his aloofness, but one thing made her feel better. He wasn’t just a jerk towards her. But everyone around him, especially girls.
Whether it was their junior, senior or even someone from his own class, he kept a one arm distance from the female species. Cold, that was the word. He was like a flower, and the girls, they played the role of countless butterflies, flapping their wings around him all day, but Denver, he ignored them all without discrimination.
In the class, inside the corridor, even during sports class, whenever Amelia peeked a glance at him, girls were lingering around him. But that guy’s attitude didn’t change; it remained as stoic as ever.
’Maybe he is a shy one? Maybe he hates females? Or is he just like I thought, the arrogant type?’ She thought. But then she recalled the first time she had seen him. It was a party, a gala her family was invited to. Though she didn’t want to go, but Vienna Clinton, her elder sister, persisted in not leaving her home alone. She even said, in a sulking voice, "If you won’t attend, I won’t go as well." With that single line, Amelia’s resolve faltered. She loved her sister dearly, and this party, Vienna had been looking forward to it. So, in the end, she relented.
As usual, when they arrived inside the lavish venue, Vienna was excited to see her friends. Even their brother, Lucas, was thrilled and went to his own party. Their parents, they were big socialites, so they had no issue. Only Amelia was bored. All she did was eat and look around. After a while, she found even that boring, so she got up and went outside to get some fresh air.
She strolled towards the beautifully decorated rose garden. The lighting, the ambience, everything was perfectly arranged. She settled on a bench and took off her heels to give her feet some rest. She then looked at the artificial river in front of her, the serenity, the calm, she liked that sort of thing, apart from studying, of course.
There was a dog on the opposite side of the river, playing and jumping merrily. There was no one with him; he was enjoying his own company. Amelia kept looking at him and chuckled at his antics. He was rolling around the floor, sort of dancing. It lightened her mood.
After spending twenty minutes or so, she finally decided to go back, ’Vienna must be looking for me. Okay, time for me to leave. Bye-bye, sweetheart.’ She waved her hand towards the oblivious dog.
She then bent down to pick up her footwear, and that’s when she heard a sudden whimper, a painful one. Her eyes darted across the river instantly and saw the dog, who was playing happily just a few seconds ago, lying on the floor. He seemed to have injured himself. She yelled, "Wait~ .... I will~ ... I will just be there. Don’t be afraid."
She quickly put on her heels and was about to go there when she saw a figure, tall, imposing, commanding. Outside, the lights were dimmer than inside the venue, so at first, she couldn’t see properly, but from his attire, she could tell it was a man. He walked towards the dog, patted his head and then carefully removed the twig from his foot.
Before Amelia could ask or say anything, he picked up the dog and took him away, probably to a veterinarian. She sighed in relief and joined the party. As expected, Vienna was looking for her, "Lia, where were you?"
"Uhhh~ ... to get some fresh air," was her reply. Vienna didn’t ask much and took Amelia to her friend circle. After greeting everyone, Amelia was back to square one. They were all of the same mind. Talking about trendy clothes, jewellery, fine wines. None of the topics interested her. She kept on looking at her watch, counting down the time. She just wanted to go home.
But soon, a person caught her eye. He was wearing the same black suit as the guy who helped the dog near the river. Now she was interested in something, or someone. Even from his side face, Amelia could tell he was good looking. He was talking to the elders, his demeanour respectful, yet commanding. The way he carried himself made her heart flutter. This was the very first time she had felt that way. But he seemed to be a lot older than her, plus, she wasn’t someone who had a lot of experience in this sort of stuff. So, she chalked it all down to curiosity because of his kindness towards the dog. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
That was that. But now, to the present day, he clearly wasn’t kind, nor was he polite.
But this way of thinking was changed once again when Denver came to find Amelia.
She was sitting in the library, fully immersed in the introduction to biology book. All of a sudden, she felt parched. She lifted her head to take out her bottle that’s when she saw Denver, walking straight towards her. Her eyes flutter, trying to comprehend what she was seeing. ’Is he coming here? Why? What happened?’ Her mind spiralled.
Denver, aloof as ever, took a seat right opposite her. Amelia lowered her gaze instantly, pretending to read. But her feigned concentration was broken by a sudden tap. She raised her head to meet his eyes directly. Her name played on his lips, "Amelia Clinton."
