Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 156: He killed Everyone
Chapter 156: He killed Everyone
But she was still speaking, her voice heightening with excitement when she saw the woman, whose name she didn’t even know, shake her head vigorously and bend her head to stare at the ground.
"Unless the Lord agrees to it... I refuse to speak of this!" she said, even as she raised her head and pushed the veil on her face aside. Her face morphed right in front of Violet’s eyes into that of an older woman, and Violet’s mouth slowly dropped open in astonishment. Her purple eyes were clear as she stood staring right into Violet’s face.
"We will also never talk about this, even alone!" the woman continued to say, even as the color of her eyes morphed into a deeper brown.
"How—how did you do that?" Violet stuttered in shock and amazement, thinking of all she could do if she could change her face and eye color. She wouldn’t ever be scared for her life and could go anywhere she wanted. Anywhere but from where she was.
"How did you—"
"We will not speak of this!" the woman said again, her tone much fiercer, as she moved to the side of the bed to pick up a bag that Violet hadn’t even noticed was there on the ground. She was about to turn around and leave, but Violet didn’t want her to.
"My name is Violet. What’s yours?" Violet asked, still not sure if the young face she had seen before the older one was the real face of the woman, or the latter. Only to settle for the fact that it didn’t matter.
"Uva," the woman responded, even as she continued moving towards the door. Violet watched her do so, unable to think of a way to stop her. The way her body shook the moment she mentioned her teaching her had been obvious, even to someone who wasn’t paying attention, and Violet understood it more than most.
Cain was violent and irrational and didn’t care about anyone’s life so much so that sometimes Violet found it hard to believe that he even cared about his own. He could be cruel, and although she could tell that he held himself back from hurting her, she wasn’t sure he would do the same for Uva, and she knew it.
The door had just slammed closed, leaving Violet alone in the room. Her vision was back, but instead of running like she wanted, she couldn’t help but think of the opportunity she might miss if she did.
’Where else could I find a witch?’ she thought, knowing that they were banned in werewolf districts. Even if some of them still lurked around, with the magic they wielded, she could pass them in the street and not know about it.
But Violet had just thought of bringing it up with Cain only to stamp down the idea before it was fully formed in her mind, realizing that Cain, with his hatred for witches, wouldn’t accept such a thing. It was already abnormal he hadn’t rejected her outright and simply looked for someone else.
Violet couldn’t help but let out a deep sigh as she flung herself back onto the bed, burying her head into the sheets again. Her body still felt extremely tired, and even though all she wanted to do was sleep, her need to escape was greater than ever before.
Determined, she got back on her feet with the intention of finding out if Cain was still in the building or whether or not he had left. Yet, the first thing Violet made sure to do was bind her chest after taking her bath, ignoring the longer length of her hair that seemed to stretch past her eyebrows, almost reaching her eyes, as she focused on wearing a pair of shorts and pants that had been left out for her, which were cleaner than the ones she already wore.
Looking at herself in the mirror, the moment she was convinced that she looked like a man, Violet moved to step out, only to freeze as she realized that the band she usually wore around her neck to change her voice was missing.
Instantly, she dashed back to look carefully for it, only to find no single trace of it in the room. Her anxiety only grew the more she searched, until she had to accept the fact that it wasn’t there. Trying to recall details about anything relating to her torture only made her seize up in fright, her memory clamming up with it.
’Did I lose it then?’ she wondered, doing her best to think back to previous events, only to come up with nothing as she leaned back against the table. It was the same exact replica of Cain’s table, which he used for work.
A few seconds passed until Violet finally gave up, her eyes furrowed in annoyance as she marched towards the door and yanked it open, surprised to see Uva waiting outside the door with the same bag in her hands, accompanied by an older man who wore a doctor’s jacket. He turned to look at her.
"You’re still here?" Violet found herself speaking, about to reel back in horror, only to relax as she realized that if the both of them had been in charge of treating her, then they were definitely already aware that she was a woman.
"You’re leaving?" Uva asked, a hint of fear in her tone, her hands almost shooting out to hold Violet back. Violet responded with a nod.
"Yeah, I’m going to find Cain," Violet told them. "You don’t have to stay here. You can—"
"No, no! We’re fine here!" the doctor was the one to speak this time, almost lowering his head before he realized he didn’t have to. "You should also return! You must still be very tired and—"
"Thanks, but I’m fine," Violet responded, cutting in before he could finish, as she turned around to leave. Uva was acting weird, but the doctor was even weirder. His entire body shivered from head to toe as he spoke to her, almost like someone was holding a knife to his neck.
Violet no longer paid attention to whatever they did, realizing that they were adults and could make their own decisions, as she walked down the stairs reminding herself that she could not just speak to anyone. Until she got the band back, she might as well be mute.
But she had just gotten to the bottom of the stairs when she noticed servants moving back and forth as usual. The only strange thing was how she seemed to have never seen any of the servants before. There was no trace of familiarity on their faces as they walked past her like she was air.
’The guards are also new,’ she noted, even as she began walking to the main doors of the mansion, confident of finding Frank, who was the head of the elite guards, even if she didn’t find anyone else.
But she had just gotten to the doors when she heard a group of servants whispering among themselves with visible fear in their eyes.
"I—I only came because of the huge amount of money they offered, but what if he also decides to kill us and eat us tonight?"
"Did you see the amount of blood we had to clean up? We didn’t see the dead bodies, but they must be in the hundreds!"
"It might even be more than that! It’s said that he killed everyone... including his elite guards!"
The more Violet listened, the heavier her legs became as she stood rooted to the ground, staring at the servants, who, again, she could swear she had never seen before.
