Modern World Warlock-Chapter 304: Zac and Curtis Vs. Saturio
As the battle with Saturio heated up, both Zac and Curtis kept going on the offensive against the barbarian, who seemed to be enjoying himself in the chaos.
Still, any time that Zac or Curtis made a mistake, Saturio was sure to punish them and correct their techniques.
When Saturio fought against Curtis in the south, their battle went in a similar way. Truthfully, Curtis would have gotten killed if he encountered any other Death Knight, but Saturio seemed more focused on finding his perfect match.
So, instead of killing Curtis at the end of their fight, he let him live with the hope that the fire mage would become stronger and challenge him again.
Now that both Zac and Curtis were fighting the barbarian, it felt as if they were being trained by him—it was a tough and cruel training, but they were definitely getting stronger the more they fought.
Curtis tried to keep his calm during the encounter. Even when he was flung around like a ragdoll and crashed into numerous buildings, the blond tried his best to keep his cool.
On the other hand, Zac's anger was increasing by the minute, and it felt as if his aura warped between an ominous and a heroic energy.
At one point in the fight, Saturio rushed toward Zac and prepared his fist. However, when the barbarian went for the strike, Zac had already moved to the side with his baseball bat in hand.
Letting out a grunt, the redhead swung his bat with all of his might, prompting Saturio to raise his forearm to defend himself. Nevertheless, Zac managed to blast him away with a powerful wave of umbra.
The barbarian crashed through the window of a building and traveled through an office space before shattering the windows on the opposite side.
Above Saturio, Curtis had a flame orb the size of a basketball hovering a few centimeters over his hand, and when he threw the orb at his opponent, the barbarian smiled with excitement.
*Boom!* Curtis' spell released an explosion at the point of impact, spreading the flames over ten meters around the target.
Saturio's forearm was bruised after protecting himself from Zac's attack, and his leather armor and shoulder pad were slightly charred after Curtis' spell.
Still, the barbarian had a satisfied smile on his face, and after he took off the large brass braces on his arms, he dropped them and broke the asphalt underneath.
'How heavy were those bracelets!?' Curtis thought, realizing that Saturio had been handicapping himself on purpose.
When Saturio extended one arm, strands of shadows began to cover it for a brief moment, generating a large, obsidian club with light blue spikes.
"Finally!" Saturio shouted, looking up at the sky and seeing Zac dropping down on him like a meteor with his baseball bat over his head.
Right as Zac slammed his weapon down, Saturio raised his club horizontally and blocked the attack, breaking the ground below them in a radius of at least ten meters and leaving a crater.
The redhead scoffed and stepped back to regroup with Curtis, both of them huffing and puffing from exhaustion. However, the battle was just getting started for Saturio.
"I'll get his attention…" Zac muttered to his friend, who nodded in understanding.
"Hey, Saturio!" The redhead called to his opponent.
"You called yourself the barbarian king, right? Then why the hell are you doing all of this!?" he asked with a tone completely unlike him.
"Because, Zac… Only through chaos, struggle, misery, and pain can a true hero be born," Saturio replied, much calmer than ever.
Saturio, the Barbarian King, was a famous warrior in the world of Terra. He was born in a place called the Lightning Highlands, where many barbarian tribes lived.
These barbarian tribes were always at war with each other, fighting for resources and materials. Even though the highlands had enough to sustain all of the tribes without a fight, the barbarians were eager to conquer other tribes.
Saturio was the first barbarian who managed to defeat all of his enemies and joined the different clans into a single, massive barbarian clan. Thus, he was given the title of Barbarian King.
However, just like his predecessors, Saturio was addicted to battles, and after fusing all of the barbarian clans together, there were no more fights to be had.
His dream was to die honorably in battle, and with his clan living in peace, he knew that wouldn't be possible.
To scratch his itch for violence, Saturio mobilized his clan to the nearest kingdom adjacent to the highlands, declaring war on them without notice. Nevertheless, it wasn't enough.
After Saturio conquered a second kingdom with his army, the man started to lose hope that he would ever find someone who could give him an honorable death in battle.
He had heard an ancient tale of a redheaded hero who freed the ancient kingdoms from the grasp of the barbarians, which was the reason they had been exiled to the highlands.
Saturio expected the hero to show himself if he attacked a few kingdoms, but after his second conquest, he started to think that either the hero was dead or it was just a fairy tale.
When Saturio got old, his combat skills diminished. He was still one of the most powerful warriors in the clan, but he was disappointed that he would die of old age and not honorably in battle against a hero—like he always wanted.
That's the time when Netherius visited the Barbarian King, offering him a second chance to look for the hero. All he needed to do was become a Death Knight for the necromancer.
Saturio thought about it for a few days, and when he got ill with a lethal disease, his choice had been made.
He would rather become an undead and keep looking for his perfect match than die like a sick dog.
"So, you see, Zac… That's the reason I'm here," Saturio said to the redhead.
"Sorry to disappoint you, Saturio, but I don't think I'm the hero you are looking for…" Zac muttered.
"However, I AM a berserker, and I won't let you place a hand on anyone else," he continued, clenching his weapon and changing into a more stable stance.
"Hah, so you say… Come on, Zac! Show me your berserker spirit!" Saturio replied with a shout, smiling and clenching his spiked club.
