Chapter 165: Chapter 165: The Trap Has Been Set

"W-what are you saying, Mistress? I don’t understand..." Leah feigned innocence. Then she suddenly held her head as if struck by a painful headache. "S-sorry, Mistress. That attacker slammed me against the wall, so my head bled for quite a while before Mrs. Diane woke me up."

"Oh? So you slammed your head against the wall just to give the illusion that you were attacked too?" Sisi smiled. "Don’t you understand how stupid you sound just now?"

"I-I don’t understand why you are accusing me, Mistress..."

"Your wound is located at the top of your skull. If you were attacked and slammed against the wall, the wound should be on your forehead or the back of your head, not on top," Sisi explained calmly and logically, clearly intending to checkmate this ambitious maid. "The only possible explanation is that you slammed your head against the wall in a rush. But slamming the back of your head isn’t effective enough, and your body would naturally pull back if you tried to hit your forehead, because your eyes can see the wall."

Leah was completely caught off guard by the accusation, especially since it was backed by logic that was hard to refute. She grew even more nervous, and her instincts screamed at her to defend herself no matter what. Because the moment she admitted it, her life would be over—she would be executed immediately.

"W-why are you doing this to me, Mistress? I’ve done nothing wrong to you! I was just trying to do my job because the King told me to guard the door while he was away!" Leah raised her voice, playing the role of a desperate innocent. "And what benefit would I gain from harming you and the Little Prince? I am your personal attendant—my position depends on yours, Mistress!"

"You are right," Sisi said calmly. "But you were treacherous enough to betray your previous master, Ruela. What makes you think you wouldn’t do it twice?"

"I never betrayed her!" Leah insisted. "It was you who demoted her to a sweeping maid and promoted me as your personal attendant. I had nothing to do with it!"

"Instead of following her and becoming a maid to accompany her, you accepted my suggestion and became my personal attendant," Sisi smiled. "I thought your bond would be stronger. Didn’t you girls grow up together?"

"T-that—"

"It wouldn’t be surprising if you slashed her neck as well, since Ruela seems to be an honest woman," Sisi added. "I’m sure she rejected whatever offer you made. That’s why you tried to silence her in case she tried to report you."

The longer Leah argued, the more she realized how terrifying Sisi truly was.

She might have a beautiful face, but her words and actions were anything but gentle. She was cold, sharp, and unyielding—nothing like the sweet, submissive female human Leah had heard about.

Sisi watched as Leah ran out of words. Leah might look clever when dealing with someone like Ruela, but she was no match for Sisi.

Sisi had grown up in an orphanage, survived the streets by selling herbs, fruits, and flowers just to earn money to buy yarns and other materials to make her own tunic. She learned early not to trust anyone in the orphanage and in the street—adult or child—and became even sharper once she began living in the farm with Mr. Piker, knowing her life... and chastity were always at risk.

A woman like Leah, who lived in a relatively sheltered environment despite being a servant, stood no chance against her.

"Anyway, it doesn’t matter how hard you deny it," Sisi said. "Once Ruela wakes up, everything will be clear. The evidence against you will be sufficient."

"And since the Beast King is away, I will be the one to deliver judgment," Sisi added.

"Y-you—aren’t I your personal attendant?" Leah asked, trying to fish out some sympathy.

"Exactly," Sisi smiled. "Which means I have full authority over your insignificant little life, my personal attendant."

That sentence sent chills down Leah’s spine. She was so terrified she felt like she might lose control of herself.

She knew exactly what that threat implied: Sisi was already convinced of her being the attacker. Once Ruela woke up, execution was inevitable.

"You may rest now," Sisi said coolly. "I’m sure you’re exhausted from all that planning. And you no longer need to serve me, I wouldn’t want to risk poisoned food."

Leah gritted her teeth and turned away without excusing herself. She knew she couldn’t wait any longer. If she did, every ambition she had nurtured—every hardship she endured dreaming of becoming the Beast Queen—would amount to nothing.

As Sisi was left alone with Jojo, her gaze lingered on the door, and she smiled faintly.

’She took the bait easily. I shouldn’t have expected more.’

Sisi summoned Diane again and said, "Diane, assign another maid to watch that woman from now on. She has taken the bait, and it won’t be long before she makes a move against Ruela."

Diane’s eyes widened. "Against Ruela, Mistress?"

"Of course. I told her everything would be revealed once Ruela wakes up. Leah must be panicking by now," Sisi replied. "She will try to kill Ruela one way or another. But she can’t simply walk into the doctor’s office—it will be heavily guarded."

"She’ll attempt to create a major distraction to draw everyone away, forcing the area to empty so she can sneak in for the kill," Sisi continued. "She’s at her wit’s end and won’t hesitate."

"Make sure not to let that maid to stop whatever Leah was doing. We need a clear evidence so it’d be easy to execute her later," Sisi instructed. "Do as I say and the threat will be eliminatead."

Diane nodded, understanding the plan. She was impressed—and a little frightened—by how accurately Mistress Sisi read people.

The raccoon maid silently vowed never to end up on her bad side.

"I will do as you instruct, Mistress. Please excuse me."
