Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 204: A Cure For a Freedom (II)
Sisi had a rough guess of what Kael wanted to talk about. She wasn’t surprised that Jojo told his father about it, since Sisi hadn’t told him to keep it a secret.
Not that she wanted to keep it a secret any longer. She felt that Kael deserved to know a thing or two about her origin.
Kael followed Sisi’s line of sight and noticed that she was staring at a potted plant. "What are you looking at, Sisi?"
"My little friends," Sisi replied calmly as she slowly shifted her gaze back to Kael. "They went on a long journey just to find me, so I’m worried about them since they are scared of you."
Kael was staring at Sisi, hoping that she would let out a funny laugh and tell him that it was just a joke.
But she didn’t.
She smiled at him and said, "I’m sure that Jojo has told you about my little faerie friends, Tutu, Keke, and Dodo."
Kael’s crimson eyes widened. He looked at Sisi as if he had seen a ghost. "Y-you mean that his story about the faeries and how they want to bring you home is... true?"
"Yes, it is a hundred percent true," Sisi confirmed. "They went on a long journey to find me. So I have to take care of them while they’re here."
"S-so, you are truly..."
"A half-human and half-faerie, yup," Sisi chuckled. "Don’t you find it funny? I really thought that I was a witch, though I’ve never done any ritual. But thankfully, my background is much more noble than that..."
Kael remembered how he accused her of witchcraft and suddenly felt a ton of guilt in his heart. He lowered his head slightly and muttered, "Sorry for calling you a witch. I wasn’t thinking clearly back then..."
"No, no, it’s a normal assumption, honestly," Sisi said. "After all, me being a witch is more believable than me being a human-sized faerie. In fact, I still don’t know much about my origin. They said I’ll be told everything by the faerie elders once they bring me home—to the faerie land."
Kael lifted his head immediately and snapped, "Don’t leave!"
Sisi was taken aback slightly. "Don’t startle me, Kael. And what’s wrong with me going back to my roots? All this time, I never had a family. I grew up in an orphanage and went through difficult times in my adolescence."
Kael gritted his teeth. He was gripping the armrest until there was a cracking sound. He didn’t want to look intimidating or hysterical in front of Sisi, but he was panicking right now.
The way Sisi talked about her background made it sound like she really wanted to leave him and Jojo for the faerie land and never return.
"What about Jojo?" Kael asked, as he knew the only reason why Sisi stayed was to take care of Jojo. "He told me about the faeries and begged me to make you stay. He doesn’t want to be separated from you, Sisi."
Sisi sighed. "I know, that’s also my worry. I’ve been thinking about waiting until Jojo is old enough to be left alone, but the faeries told me that they can’t wait any longer because they are leaderless."
"They said that I am their darling. I’m not really sure what that means, but apparently a darling means I am the leader of the faeries," Sisi said without hesitation. "Of course, I can’t leave my faeries alone when I’m supposed to be their leader, right?"
"But what about Jojo?!" Kael raised his voice out of worry, then he added in his heart, ’—And what about me?’
Sisi paused for a moment, glancing at the sleeping boy who was more precious than her life, and then at the faeries who were still hiding behind a pot, peeking at them from time to time out of fear of Kael.
Sisi decided not to give him a straight answer and continued with her narrative, "The faerie elders will come to your kingdom in a few days, and they should be knowledgeable about how to cure Jojo’s blindness."
"I can work as a translator between the faeries and you, since the faeries have vast knowledge about this forest, and you can search for whatever ingredients are necessary to make a medicine for Jojo," Sisi said. "If we work together, I’m sure there will be a way to make him see again."
Kael couldn’t even find a hole in that statement, because it felt wrong to argue against it.
Did he want his son to be able to see again? Of course!
Jojo was too young to go blind, and even if he would recover his sight in the future, it might take five or even ten years. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
For a boy his age to live in complete darkness for years was a torture that Kael didn’t want to place upon Jojo’s shoulders.
But what about Sisi?
What would happen once she met with those elders?
Would they take her once they were done curing Jojo’s blindness?
As if Sisi could read his mind, she lowered her gaze slightly toward the unfinished needlework on the table. It would take a while for Sisi to complete a set for both Kael and Jojo, and she was wondering if she could complete them before she returned to the faerie land.
"I’ve made a request. I’ll stay until Jojo can see again. Once his sight has been restored, then... I will go with the faeries back to the faerie land. I am needed there."
"You can’t! Sisi, please think about Jojo’s feelings for once!" Kael snapped again. This time, his crimson eyes were shining brightly, which made the trio of faeries hide behind the potted plant and huddle up together in fear.
They had heard a few scary stories about the Dusk Star’s crimson eyes and the Dawn Star’s golden eyes, and didn’t want to look at them straight in the eyes.
But Sisi wasn’t scared. She had seen Kael at his scariest during that blizzard chase, after all.
"This is the only way to cure him, Kael," Sisi said firmly. "I cannot bear to see Jojo go blind at such a young age..."
