Chapter 205: Chapter 205: A Cure For A Freedom (III)

"Do you think Jojo will be happy with this selfish decision of yours?" Kael scowled. "He would be devastated knowing that in order to cure his blindness, he’ll be separated from you. Both you and I know this for a fact, Sisi."

Sisi couldn’t maintain her smile anymore. She was also sad knowing that she would be separated from Jojo prematurely, but she just couldn’t bear to see him growing up without the ability to see the world around him.

It was too cruel for the boy, and she would do absolutely anything to free him from such torment, even if it might cost her own freedom.

"There’s no guarantee that the faeries can help us. But it is a promise I made to my grandmother—the origin of all faeries," Sisi said. "Jojo might be able to visit me from time to time, but the faeries said that he can’t stay with me. Nobody except the faeries is allowed to enter the faerie land."

Sisi looked at the sleeping boy that she loved so much, and then back at Kael. She knew that he must be very upset about this, but she couldn’t do much as she had made her decision.

"Kael, once I’m back in the faerie land, I want you to raise Jojo properly. You can always bring him to the area around the faerie land, and we can meet there once or twice a year—though I’m not sure if it’s allowed," Sisi turned her head toward the trio of faeries behind the pot and asked, "You guys, tell me if it’s allowed for them to be around the faerie land?"

The trio of faeries were still scared, so they popped their heads out, and Crush Tutu was the one who replied, "If—if they are just regular beastmen or humans, they can, because they won’t be able to see the entrance to the faerie land anyway. But they are the Dusk and Dawn Stars. So... I don’t think Grandma Tree and the faerie elders would allow it."

With that disappointing answer, Sisi didn’t give Kael a direct answer. She was thinking about how to tell this to him, but Kael seemed to have guessed the answer.

"They won’t allow the Dusk and Dawn Stars to be around the faerie land, right?" he asked.

"Well, that’s—"

"Jojo and I have been cursed since birth, Sisi. No need to sugarcoat it," Kael said rather harshly. He suddenly scoffed full of self-ridicule. "It’s so funny to think that we can finally have a family. Jojo and I have always been alone. Even after I built this kingdom, we are still alone, except for you. You are part of us, Sisi, and you think that you can leave just like that?"

Kael knew that logically all he could do was accept the terms, because Sisi was doing this for Jojo’s sake.

But his heart refused to accept it. He was reluctant—no, more than reluctant, he refused to be separated from Sisi!

He got up and walked toward Sisi, and the latter stood up, thinking that Kael wanted to leave the room to clear his head.

"Once the faerie elders are here, I’ll tell you—ah!" Sisi was caught off guard when the Beast King suddenly hugged her tight. So tight that she felt there was no way for her to escape.

Kael lifted her up and buried his face on her shoulder. He didn’t want to look weak in front of the woman he liked, but he was on the verge of imprisoning her at this point, because he didn’t know what to do to make her stay.

"Sisi, is this... the only way?" Kael asked. His voice was so gentle, unlike the usual rough man he was in front of his subordinates. "Why don’t you let me search for a medicine for Jojo instead? I’ve dispatched plenty of my subordinates to gather information all across the Roc Forest and even outside of it, just to find a cure for our boy. We just need to be patient..."

Sisi listened for a good while and slowly hugged him back, patting the man’s broad shoulder as she said, "You and I know that’s not effective, Kael. Jojo’s blindness is not because of illness, but because of his curse. You said it yourself."

"Besides, there is no guarantee that the faeries can actually help, right? But it’s better to try than let Jojo suffer like this," Sisi added. "Kael, if... if you are truly his father, then you should have the same idea as me."

Kael gritted his teeth. "Of course I want Jojo to get his vision back, but if it costs the separation between the three of us then... then..."

Kael didn’t want to say that he preferred his son to go blind rather than lose Sisi. He was truly in a difficult position and didn’t know what to do or even what to say.

Besides, even when Sisi said that there was no guarantee the faeries could help, his gut feeling still told him that Sisi would leave either way.

"Sisi, please give me time. I... I will find a way to cure Jojo without you leaving me," Kael muttered. "I know that I am selfish, but I... I always thought that I had a lot of time with you, so I wanted to take it slow to warm you up, and maybe you’d eventually see me in a good light and accept my proposal to be my mate."

"Had I known this situation would come, I would’ve brought you to the throne room and announced our marriage immediately," Kael muttered. "Please think of Jojo, and think of me, Sisi. We are two souls that rely on your presence. We cannot live without you."

It was the most sincere confession that Kael had ever uttered to a woman. It was also his very first confession, because he had never liked any woman in his life, as his life had always been filled with loneliness and bloodshed.
